It had been raining since last night, and it was raining again this morning. It was raining lightly, but the gorillas were trying their best to gather breakfast as quickly as possible.
Rain was forecast for after noon, so the gorillas went back inside after 11:00 a.m.
Only Gentaro did not go back inside, but took a nap outdoors.

Father MOMOTARO ♂(2000/7/3)
He is hesitant in new situations and is a loner.
His father died before he was born, and he had never spent time with a silverback.
He had already turned into a silverback by the time he was 10 years old.
He is struggling with unfamiliar child-rearing.
MOMOTARO's father is BIJU.
MOMOTARO's mother is MOMOKO
Mother GENKI ♀ (1986/6/24)
She is 14 years older than Momotaro and has a role to support the whole family mentally.
She has had a tumultuous and eventful life.
She has returned to her birthplace, Kyoto City Zoo.
She had never been blessed with a baby but after meeting Momotaro,
she had two sons.
She is a very maternal female gorilla.
GENKI's father is MAKK.
GENKI's mother is HIROMI.
First son GENTARO, male (2011/12/21)
He was separated from his mother Genki soon after he was born.
Genki's milk production was not very good.
He was raised by his keeper for his first10 months.
Because of this, he is very fond of humans.
His face is so expressive, and everyone enjoys watching him.
Second son KINTARO ♂ (2018/12/19)
He is just very strong-willed and independent.
He has big eyes and long eyebrows.
The way he plays a lot with his brother Gentaro makes everyone smile.
We can't wait to see what kind of gorilla he'll become!

Shabani troop is interesting for this, there's a number of clips of Annie walking directly to other gorillas and handing over a food item, and sometimes Shabani walks over to Nene and she'll give up her food to Shabani. It's cool to see because usually it's "every man for himself" ... especially when Genki is around lol

Everyone enjoyed carrots at breakfast. Kintaro even shared some of his carrot hoard with Gentaro. It's wonderful to see the family doing well. I only got to see for a second, but it looks like Gentaro's canine teeth have grown.

Within one and half years. Genki will turn 38 in a short while. Pregnancy over 40, it is risky. Then, it is better to conceive until 39.
Her big belly is one of her physical charactoers. It is unfortunate that in her gut, foods can't be digested properly because of the lack of her teeth. Most foods are not chewd enogh.

Генки не беременна. Размер живота не имеет никакого отношения к беременности. Гориллы - травоядные. Шимпанзе, как и люди, всеядны и едят мясо.
У большинства травоядных животных большие животы. Это объясняется тем, что для расщепления пищевых волокон требуется больше времени. Гориллы относятся к семейству гоминид, но их питание сильно отличается от питания людей и шимпанзе.

Außerdem isst die Familie nicht jeden Tag kiloweise Möhren (Karotten), sondern gelegentlich nur ein paar Endstücke und Scheiben, die in der Mitte ausgestanzt sind (also ein Loch haben). Davon wird kein Gorilla Leberkrank. Die Karotten Stücke werden von Restaurants an die Gorilla Familie gespendet. 😊🦍🦍🦍🐒🥕🥕

@@Namaste3004 There must be a machine that punches out the middle of the carrots. I can’t imagine how it works unless all carrots are the same size! Do you happen to know why they do this and what happens to the middles?
@@katewaterbaby The carrots are donated by a restaurant to the zoo for the gorillas. The cutout is reminiscent of a flower 🏵️ so the carrot pieces look more beautiful on the plates for the restaurant guests. The rest is donated because it's too bad to throw away. Maybe they use a machine because doing it by hand would take too long, but I don't know for sure. 😊
The cutout also has advantages as our little carrot king Kintaro can put the carrots on his fingers. 😄🥕🐒

Having been squired around Toyama once (as a keynote speaker at an International symposium) to the best restaurants, I can speak to the incredible beauty of Japanese courses. And the chefs’ outrageously amazing skills. That was many years ago . . . I still long for the sweet raw Sea of Japan shrimp. I don’t understand why there are not peppers, broccoli, sweet potatoes, various lettuce, cucumbers, squash, etc. for these guys every single day? Do we not see this? I do believe I saw a pepper with Genki but it’s so sad for them to appear to struggle for food.
They not strugle for food,they have diet from vet. Stop spreading false info.
It may be that the zoo cannot afford that type of diet for the gorillas…vegetables that you inquired about are expensive.
They are eating the food that is normal for them. Their favorite is Rye Grass which they get a lot of. They are definitely not going without food.
On purpose, the zoo doesn't give the gorillas lots of veggies.
Vegetables produced for humas contain high sugar. All members get decays easily if they are given much. Now, the family hardly have a cold thanks to the improvement of their immue system. In the past, they had much veggies or fruits but every winter season, they used to suffer from sympstoms from the flu.
As you may know, in the wild a gorilla's diet consists of stems, roots, young branches, leaves, buds, pith, seeds, buds, wild fruit, and ants/termites which are rich in calcium and iron. They occasionally ingest soil which regulates the digestive system. It is my understanding that the Kyoto Zoo mainly adheres to that type of diet. Fruits are not given often due to dental health.
I have seen videos at the end of the day when they're having their last meal and there will be some veggies. I've seen Chinese cabbage, broccoli, celery, green peppers, bok choy, Komatsuna, Japanese Radish.
If you are familiar with the Cleveland Zoo in the US, they feed their gorillas browse and the only veggies are different types of lettuce.
It’s like they are always struggling and fighting for food as though they are hungry.

They eat. Too much fruit hard on the teeth . Perhaps some variety like cabbage, cucumbers or peppers would be nice. Some people donate to their food fund as well
You are only seeing a glimpse into their day. They eat three times a day. They are all very healthy.
