Shri Subba Rao, who is also known as 'Aaj Ka Arjun',is a master in traditional archery techniques, which was used in the Mahabharata and Ramayana period. he has got mastery in the many archery skills like Pada Lakshya Bhedanam, Ardha Chakrasana Lakshya Bhedanam, etc.
The Guntur resident said he has been doing the feat from his childhood and learnt the skill from his father, Venkateshwar Rao.

I quit my high paying office job to follow my "Svadharma" (स्वधर्म).
It took 3 years to uninstall "Macauly" software my mind and still some traces left.
Vedic culture is very very deep, once you understand the basic concept then every thing makes sense which perceived as “bad practices” by westernised Indians.
It breaks my heart reading all those comments below, this westernised generation doesn’t have a clue about our real culture, they just want to prove to the world that they are better...
I sort of understand the people below. No doubt these skills are a treasure. However it seems evident that a lot of these skills would be more practical in competitions and hunting rather than actual combat in the heat of battle. However Dhanurved contains information (which I'm sure this acharya knows) about techniques which are very effective in combat.
True, I didn't sacrifice as much as you did but started paying attention to the vedic writings, these are phenomenal work. It should be part of studies.

There is a boy in my village , his name is dayanand arya , he can perform all these skills in age of 21 , he is now preparing to olympic , but money is problem 😣😣😣 , he can not use his arrow and bow in games , and olympic arrows are very costly ,5000 each and bow is 1.5 lakh cost 😑😑😑😑😑 ,

there is very little skill in this the actual battlefield techniques are way different and need a lot more skill. Still, the leg shot was cool tho. I am an archer who trains in dhanurvidya so I am saying from experience

This is the time not to preserve this art but practising traditional archery and make it a common sport. There are IPL. Football kabbady leagues why Archer league is not possible. We Indians are born with stories of Ramyan and Mahabharat.If we have teachers like shri Subba Raoji we can revive it to the top

I am also a big fan of traditional Indian archery. It is a lost art that should be revived. I am happy this man is reintroducing archery to India but I have a few issues with this. I don't mean to be a critic but he is using a bow that is far too light for practical use. Despite this I am happy he is getting Indians interested in archery which was the sport of our ancestors.
What weight has to do? I think it is made up of bamboo, which has great flexibility.
@@paadipanta2607 He means the draw weight of the bow( amount of power needed to draw the string fully back) that is what gives the bow power
edit: I have tried it a lot of times with different bows and different techniques from the dhanurved
that is true but also consider the fact that anything higher in weight these techniques will be horribly inaccurate

Arrian's Anabasis describes a lot of ancient India. It has a paragraph stating "Indian war equipment differs; the infantry have a bow, of the height of the owner; this they poise on the ground, and set their left foot against it, and shoot thus; drawing the bowstring a very long way back; for their arrows are little short of three cubits, and nothing can stand against an arrow shot by an Indian archer, neither shield nor breastplate nor any strong armour."... Although I understand everything about this book might not be accurate, but also some things are accurate...

The video angle is so that it seems that the arrows are hitting from side and not from the point , if he was hitting from side then he would be in his village and not here . LoL
I request to the organizers that if possible then put a camera at 90 degree angle from the archer focused on the aim to get a side view of hitting the aim.
It’s an ancient technique for hunting birds, which was used till 1900 in most parts of India, so that archer can hunt birds without shading any blood.

archery in India is nearly dead. This is only a bit of it that is left.
No one practices it. A lot of the bow and arrow making is lost. Most Techniques of teaching Indian traditional archery is also lost.
I practice dhanurvidya and also have made my own bow I am a 14yr old bow so I think this will still be alive

People who are questioning that none of the arrows will hit target, so just you know. It’s ancient Indian hunting technique. The technique of the Indian archer was to hold the bow in a horizontal position near the ground and place the arrow on the string at angle; that is, with the nock several inches above the normal nocking point, so that the arrow received a side thrust as well as forward thrust and, consequently, whirled around like a pinwheel while it went forward only a few yards. The idea seemed to be knock the bird down without shedding its blood. Recorded by britisher who appointed in Sindh name Major Farley.
But this is supposed to be combat archery.
2. This is not even in the dhanurveda or any ancient text to use it like this.

To be historically accurate, these would NOT be viable for the battlefield. There's a reason we use full draws, and aim from ey-level. These are basically trick shots and might also work for small game hunting. But again, a full draw is preferred for aim, power, stability, etc.
Ancient Indian war bow technique would be much, much different.

It's great but nothing exceptional to what we must have used in medieval times. It's nothing like we heard in epics

Some of it is quite good but this is not combat archery. He should show combat archery techniques.
This is nothing of Vedic culture just make a bow out of bamboo and start using it. You will learn all the skill.
