Great review! The cipher was one of my favorites I read last year. I have read bad brains also and I enjoyed cipher more but bad brains was really good. I’ve also read skin by Koja which I didn’t like and a couple short story collection from her which are really good. I’ve also read some of her YA stuff which is good also but nothing like Cipher or Bad Brains. The next best I’d recommend would be Velocities by her which is a short story collection. Thanks for the great review!
I'm super excited for the SGJ series. I have a headstart with My Heart is A Chainsaw, so now I have an excuse to finally pick up Don't Fear The Reaper.
hope to get to Kathe Koja sometime. Bad Brains is the one i wanted to try first but Cipher sounds really interesting to. im generally a slow reader so because of that i never done any book clubs with people but i always look forward to the reviews you put out
I tried to like this one, and for the first half or so I did, but ended up losing interest and DNFing, which sucks because I wanted to have something to contribute to the bookclub discourse, lol. Her writing style is interesting, but I think too much of it and it sort of loses its effectiveness. I liked the depraved relationship between Nick and Nakota, the way she keeps him sort of on a string and clearly uses him is an interesting relationship to base a book around. Strange stuff, this book, for sure. Regarding voting/versus you choosing the books, I like it when you choose, but maybe a mix of both would work for most viewers? I can't vote as I don't have a discord, but I don't mind if others do. Long as there are books being read, that's all I care about, lol.
Fair enough. Her style is unique and I can see why someone wouldn't like it. For the voting, you don't need discord. I will just post a poll in the RUclips community tab.
I didn’t like this book at all. I actually ended up DNFing this one. With that said, I am excited for the book club starting back up and can’t wait to read the SGJ trilogy. I read The Only Good Indians and really enjoyed it.
