Pleasure in Pain: "It's a fun little burst heal 3 for you and a friend or... some way to blow a top."
I see and acknowledge what you did there.

Excellent video as always. Already told you this - but you're developing a style for these, and it's awesome.
If you are hunting for ideas, do Drifter!

I dunno if I could go back and do a drifter video :P
YOU on the other hand. You write it for the ranged Drifter, I'll record it

Great video and love the humor, especially the repeated call back to Reprisal. I'm about to retire Shackles myself and started out with the DM build too, which was a super fun play style. But at level 5 I took Chained by Spite and never looked back. Loaded up on every healing item I could find and thoroughly enjoyed the dancing on a knife's edge of taking a bunch of damage and dishing it out with infection purge and burned at both ends, only to heal it back. Enhancing the bottom of cleansing fire to bring it up to move 3 and both halves of unending torment to heal 6's were extremely valuable.
I definitely agree that the build paths for shackles are all pretty fun and viable, making it a class I'd love to revisit.
Again great video and keep it up, loved the boneshaper not-guide as well.
P.S go easy on us Trap players, we are just taking a few turns to set up an attack 20 😉

      Appreciate the comments :)
Chained by spite looks game changing, and I loved the self healing direction you took. I love that one persons bin cards are another players core cards. Great design work right there.
I have nothing against the trap, but one of my best mates played it, so its always a dig at him specifically :P The Trap is awesome.. and we love the 7 turn ramp before something exciting happens :D

I played a mostly Infection Purge build as I had a 4p group with lots of summons and keeping them alive was huge. So it's funny because I really needed a lot of your bin cards like Cleansing Fire and Pleasure in Pain. Of course Unending Torment is still the GOAT as well. It's not the most FUN build to play most likely as you just take damage and heal, but I am playing with my family and keeping my kids' summons alive is worth it. I like all the different persistents for this class and how you can play in a lot of different ways.

100000000% mate and knowing you're using PC to enhance your kids' fun is amazing, I love that.
And agreeeed, this class just has so many options... its actually so far in my opinion one of the most replayable characters in the series that i've played.
I wouldn't mind going into other playstyles but I need to try the others :P but if i could i'd come back.

How you builded your Pain Conduit around Delayed Malady made me remember about my Blinkblade. My first character on my Frosthaven playthorugh and the one with whom I had the most fun.
As with Delayed Malady my Blinkblade required thoughtful process to setup and play Breakneck Speed accordingly, it also usually ended up exhausted. I haven't seen a class shine as bright as my Blinkblade did in the course of those 4 turns, and I'm really excited to take up Shackles on my next gaming session as I got similar vibes of the Blinkblade, thanks for the video!

Haha i love your approach with the BB. DM shackles I think has more restrictions in its usage tbh and that can sometimes be a turn off as that aspect isn't as flexible... but in saying that the whole shackles kit is extremely flexible so there's something for everyone.
But yeah, if you enjoy burning bright and dying fast... I'd try the DM build. My only regret was wishing I went all the way to level 9 to try the level 9 card.

The condition build is so much fun and so different than anything alse in -havens, gobbling up all those tasty treats! 🤩 I also already did a super retaliate build in Gloomhaven with this character's "counterpart".
I was surprised to hear you say "don't bother with Masteries with the DM playstyle", when the condition Mastery specifically seems to be targeted at the DM playstyle 😄 I do see you didn't pick the Level 5 + 6 cards to help with it though (giving yourself a free condition helps with stun, and hopelessness with bane, naturally).
I just leveled up to 6 and now only need a brittle to fulfill it - onto a snow imp scenario then! 😁 I do admit it's a lot of work just to get a mastery done, but I love the challenge! The damage mastery, on the other hand... Yeah, I only see a very slim chance of getting it with this build...

Haha I know, when I saw that bane symbol I was like "omg this is it" and then changed my mind before the session started. I knew I could attempt to really go for the masteries well not the damage one, but I just felt it required too much lining up the stars to get it off, via the right scenario with the right monsters etc.
I do praise your enthusiasm about completing the masteries and enjoying the challenge. I guess its why in our campaign we play with a bunch of house-rules that make the game more difficult, because we genuinely enjoy the challenge.
I was incredibly enthusiastic about masteries when I first got the game, but the range in difficulty to complete them from every class is just a tad annoying. Some seem just way easier than others.

Having played both Shackles and Meteor was there a play style that you enjoyed more or found easier/harder to play? I get the feeling Meteor is more about managing the monsters and terrain on the board while Shackles is managing status of your character.

    • @amdirt
      @amdirt  6 месяцев назад

Good question. I feel both styles of characters 'in general' i felt were the harder styles of play compared to the other options I saw (aka Tanky/ranged shackles and Haz Meteor).
Meteor with Quenched Rage depended a lot more on timing attacks and building up towards a big hit at least my build did. That had tricky moments but probably more because playing as 4 people the board state was constantly changing and sometimes by the time it got to me my plans would change.
I'd honestly say Shackles was harder to play but that's literally because I was playing around the timing and usage of one card, and if for some reason I got that timing wrong, it could drastically affect the impact of my turns. Shackles had more considerations around trying to collect the conditions etc as well.
Meteor was more an internal game, making sure I could plan it all ahead so I could unleash a devasating attack on a priority target. This could really be done at any time during any given scenario, whereas if I blew DM on the shackles and the room is cleared rather quickly due to teammates it has ended up as a waste as I blow charges of DM just moving into the next room to setup for whatever is in there.
Getting my head around that sometimes was the hardest part of playing shackles and feeling godlike.

What if I told you the wound on Wracked with Pain is optional? The wound is not a mandatory ability so you can choose not to apply it and just apply just the stun and brittle.

oh I found this out recently in a shackles discussion which 100% would change how I felt about it.. so yes, that would make it less bin, more in!

Hahahah! I know its a beloved card. Just wasn't working for me and I enjoyed working around it.
It's not so much in the bin, but it went in MY bin :P

I think there is an important errata that shared addiction bottom with dm still works

    • @Acriwix
      @Acriwix 9 месяцев назад

@@lennaylennay2 Sadly, the official FAQ specifically says "If you cannot remove your own conditions, you cannot use these abilities." - where did you read this errata? If it's a 2nd print change, at least it's not yet in the FAQ. Unless you meant that you wish it was erratad 😅
