This song was performed as an unreleased single at a Baton Rouge nightclub in late 1955. It caused such a commotion that Torence Hatch Jr (Boosie) was arrested on the spot. He was booked and spent the night in the City Jail, but the all-white Baton Rouge Metro Council pushed to charge Howard with a litany of charges in addition to 'disturbing the peace', which included promotion of larceny, promotion of prostitution, inciting a riot, and accessory to second degree murder, attempting to pin two then-unsolved murders on Boosie under circumstantial evidence. The accompanying Council Resolution banning Boosie from ever performing in East Baton Rouge Parish again under the threat of arrest motivated the DA to indict Howard, ultimately resulting in a conviction of disturbing the peace, promotion of prostitution and larceny, and inciting a riot. Ironically, Howard's conviction in the summer of 1956 resulted in civil unrest and property destruction throughout then-segregated Louisiana. Howard was sentenced to two years at Angola State Prison. A model inmate by all accounts, he joined the prisoner band as lead singer under the condition that he never perform 'Set It Off'. He followed the request, and boosted prisoner morale with electrifying concerts that served as inspiration for Elvis' 1957 hit 'Jailhouse Rock'. This hit greatly embellished the account of a foiled prison break attempted during one especially raucous concert. Howard was released after 9 months for good behavior, and went on to tour for decades. Allegedly, the Council Resolution banning Boosie from Baton Rouge was never lifted, which caused Boosie to avoid touring in his hometown until after Louisiana lifted Jim Crow laws in 1970. His 1972 performance at the same nightclub he was originally arrested at was seen as a watershed moment for local civil rights activists.
I'm still working on reactions for your Tik tok! But the problem I'm having is: recording the reactions, while using my cell "that has the playlist." Then I'll use another person's cell but the audio fukt & not coming out right. Any suggestions??? Im all ears & I was thinking about getting a GoPro or some type of video recording device.
