    What would you recommend as the best way to really cement these concepts and derivations so that you remember them long after the class is over? I find that I forget the material quickly and have to recap every time it's needed.

    what about the pressure forces on control volume

      Pressure on the streamline and plate tend to cancel out because Prandtl simplified the y-momentum equation (NS Equation for y) to give dp/dy = 0.
      In other words, The pressure on the streamline is of the same order as on the plate.

    How can you just put density out from the integral in the mass balance equation as if it is constant in all section 1 and 2? and also why is density supposed constant between inlet and outlet of the plate? are we talking of incompressible fluids in this case? did I miss something? :)

      this is a theory of incompressible boundary layers
