the last part was actually heart-aching. it's Sherlock's way of saying "I love you". just think about it, in a time like this where they would probably never meet again (which they did), all Sherlock did was to crack a joke and all he wanted to see was John smiling for one last time.
another theory (something like that): Sherlock said that, in hope that someone would be named Sherlock Watson in the world, even though that's not gonna be him.
conclusion: THAT SCENE IS HEARTBREAKING YOU KNOW
OMG I JUST REALIZE, the scene where sherlock dances to the music which he wrote, and the next scene where mary and john is dancing to the song Sherlock has written for mary and john. It felt as though sherlock written that song for john, and he was 'dancing' with john in his mind when he was dancing alone. But in the end he changed it to 'Mary & John'...
I just love when Sherlocks smiles!
