That isn't the first M5. M535i of the E12s was the most powerful 5 series you can get. M5 starts from the E28.
Technically this was the first M5 but was not badged as the first M5 but as an M535 take away the 35 and what are you left with ? The was the first 5 series that M Sport tuned and gave performance to . This is by far the birth of the M5 !
