Volcano Update - The Big Picture And Full Travel Story Included With New Footage

  • This video is stuffed with footage so it took me a while to get it online but it includes my volcano trip, the travel story and how I perceived the "mood" during the first day. Luckily I didn't feel as I had to stay longer in Reykjavik since I have so much video processing on my table now. Ny next videos will cover the town it self and the lava deface walls from a new drive-around camera setup I'm still working on. The eruption has been hyped up a bit too much for my taste, it's a large event as for lava volume, but a minor event when it comes to the location and how well this turned out this time, and for that we are thankful during the rough times be'e been going trough here in Iceland.

Have I thanked you lately for using real English captioning on your videos, not "auto generated"? That's one of the many reasons why I watch! Informative as always, refreshing to hear the scoop from a native Icelander. Stay safe, all of you good folks!

@@JustIcelandicMy mother tongue is American English but as a Native American (American Indian), I tend to pop my /t/ and /d/ enunciation, so I get some bizarre auto generated captions. I need to remember to budget the time to do the transcription for mine, myself. I’m getting ready to reboot my “business” RUclips (this is my personal one) as a fresh channel from a different email-I really like your coffee chat style (even as a mostly faceless account) and I see how to makes a more understandable channel, so there’s no hope to overhaul the higher ed channel I had before, I just have to start over. Great video again! I read somewhere that this series of eruptions could last for decades or even centuries and if the ‘zipper’ is opening north with every eruption, that could really be a problem for Reykjavik. I hope that your scenario is true, that the flow of lava will be so small that it won’t erupt again…

I’ve lost 3 in the Scottish Highlands 2 went into the North Sea & the last one into a cave I was trying to get one of a kind shots.
I imagine Iceland’s winds are even worse than the Scottish Highlands.

Thank you for this video, again. The long distance images are very impressive, as is the total composition 🤩. I noticed the earthquakes continuing to the north on the first days, where in previous eruptions the quake activity all but stopped once the lava started to come out. Glad Grindavik is safe for now, but it may indeed be necessary to start to think of protection for Vogar and the northern infrastructure.

Your handheld shots are not bad. That lava splatter w/special camera from 6-7 k was HOT! ..and amazing. The vastness of the cooled lava fields -gnarly. Height of the lava barriers while driving on them was such that my fear of heights kicked in - so .... good job! That thick moss burning 50 yrs of US bombing area is awful.

Thanks again Gylfi. As always, well done! For a tripod in the wind just add weight. I have used a cord and water jugs to hold one down a few times. The water can be discarded so you only carry it 1/2 way. 🙂 If you have loose cooled lava, sand, or rocks, a bag or bucket can work.

Might try it but in this case the 200-500 lens is taking on so much wind as well, but the new camera has some stabilisation going on as well so extra weight might work. This is something thats need a permanent fix because I'm going time-lapsing again with since I finally have a mirrorless now :)

Going beyond the superficial drama and documenting and contextualizing the unfolding saga is doubtless being magnificently executed by your work and should be very much appreciated more widely in due course. Your videography has been first rate to date and am sure you are the most capable historian at work during these times in Iceland. the beautiful moon-moss-landscape of the peninsula absolutely would benefit from early action re: fire corridors. I remember during my student time at Háskolinum, walking out and lying on a pillow of that moss (having not heard yet that you are supposed to preferably leave it alone), it was so special. Protecc the moss!

I agree, we should protect it, it's a shame to let I burn like it's doing now.

I love watching your videos. Your country is beautiful and I've always been fascinated by volcanoes (and I feel the pain of those who have been adversely affected by the eruptions). Thank you for sharing them with us. I'd love to see a nice big "fireplace" like that 😁

Good album for a good price. I still pop CDs into my car for trips.
