Baby that 'grated tree' is just going to take the 'recommended time' it's allowed. You're doing your part, it's healthy and setting fruit, don't be frustrated... just wait. Beautiful 'Orchid'.
Growing up, my friend had a paw-paw tree grove in his backyard. Some of those trees were 16 inches in diameter. There were times when the fruit fell from the trees that the bees would be swarming all around eating the paw-paws. Those trees were once very common in the area but experienced some sort of blight back in the 70s. Sad that my adult kids now have never seen or eaten a paw-paw fruit. Thanks for the memory recall. Fabulous garden!
I just got a few paw paw trees this spring and they are already about a foot taller than when I got them. I can't hardly wait for the years to come when they start producing
Paw-paw trees play a vital role in my family's history. It was quite a shock when I found them growing in several spots in my NC yard! Haven't seen any here where I am now in Ohio, where they should be pretty prevalent.
It’s June 9, I’m in central Cali & it’s just now warm enough for tomatoes, squash & cucumbers. Never seen weather like this! I’ve live here all my life!
Between human based climate change and nothing being done about it and also an extended El Nino this year & may stay for the next few years. It's gonna be difficult to grow things outside. You will have shorter growing seasons & erratic temperature changes. you're gonna need to use greenhouses wind tunnels, etc, because growing outside is gonna be near impossible in the next 15 to 20 years.
My garden was doing great. Hail damage for the first time in 10 year’s shredded my plants. My leaves are shreaded and my veggies are bruised. I’m still hopeful that my fig trees will fruit.
Little tip: when growing zuchinni, or winter squash or anything like those, when they flower, there are two flowers. Male and female. Take a q-tip or a paint brush and take the pollen off the MALE flowers, and put that pollen on the female flowers insides.
You are such an inspiration! Thank you for sharing your spring garden with us. I love how much effort you put into everything you do. Your fruit trees look amazing. I've never heard of pineapple guava. Where did you purchase it? I live in MD zone 7A. I wonder if it would survive in our area.
Ahh I’m the PNW and with the new weather patterns, we’re getting intensely hot, dry Septembers, so I’m hoping I’ll have enough time to ripen some nice beefsteaks! It’s my first year growing veggies 😊 btw tysm for your vids, I planted a White Madeira and I258 along with my Negronne bc of you!
Wow, MG! Your garden and food forest is super!👍 I am glad to see you are having great success with your straw bale garden. And look at all the matars you are getting!👍I'm looking forward to your taste test of the figs you grew from seed!😃 The tour was very enjoyable! I rejoice with you.😃 Cute Dale can really sing! 🐕 Daisy is a cutie...the other two fur babies too.🙂
Wow! Absolutely gorgeous! What a fun tour! I just love your channel. I've been following you since you first started on this property and you have completely transformed that place!
We live in Hawaii and grow avocado like a weed but I’ve noticed when some are doing bad when we add iron either by pounding a nail in it or sprinkling some rust they do pretty good, maybe checking your iron in your soil my help good luck and thank you for your Content!
The ambrosia beetles got my fig trees this year. Apparently a lot us here in Louisiana were hit with them. I cut mine back to the ground and they're trucking it from the roots. Hopefully they'll make a full comeback and fruit beautifully next year. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻
Terrible. Some locations need everything covered. Here the one wood chuck has multiplied. Tops of beet root, tender lettuce, chard, decapitated 2 Roma in pots waiting for transplanting and starting on Roma in the garden. THAT'S ENOUGH!!! Getting low voltage wire.
I did the straw bale gardening a few years back, and hated it. I did all my research, bought several books and followed the instructions to the letter. I didn't have a trellis like you (It would've made a difference). The bales won't support tomato cages, they're just too flimsy. Also, none of the books mentioned what is now termed as "smooshing" your bales. As the center of the bale breaks down into beautiful soil, air gaps form which stops all growth on the plant. You need to compress the bales as they decompose to prevent the air pockets from killing your plants. The smooshing could lower the level of your plants so I would account for the lowering of the plant when stringing it up (give them some slack). You can also insert potting mix or soil into the bale by making a hole and just shoving hands full of soil into the bale then pull the straw back together. I have a Paw paw patch which is taking over my yard. I planted three varieties shortly after the purchase of our house. It took eight years, eight, to finally start getting fruit. Now 25 years later I have more fruit and trees than I can handle. I love your gardens and plantings and I really enjoy watching and learning from you. Thank you for what you do.
It is hot, hot, hot, here in Talladega Alabama. I've harvested out the last of my mustard, and Swiss Chard. I have a big patch of heat loving Ne w Zealand spinach thriving, and two Russian Scarlet kale-that I need to harvest. My herbs are thriving, and I have ten trays of basil in the dehydrator. I'm getting great production from my squash and cucumbers. I lost one vine, and am waiting for replacement seedlings to sprout. My first wave of tomato plants are flowering and setting fruit, and I am getting my first cherry tomatoes. The peppers in my raised bed, and GreenStalk tower are also flowering and setting fruit. The strawberry plant in my tower have slowed down with setting fruit, and are putting out runners. I only have a few open places left to fill. I am considering purchasing a Lansing Cherry tree next March, but need to find space for it first.
Your garden looks great. I don’t know how you get it all done. Do you can your harvest? You have inspired me to become a more neat and organized gardener. I also love flower gardening. Its tough keeping both going in this drought here in the upper midwest. I only grow what we process as pantry staples like tomato, tomatillos, peppers, a few potatoes, leafy greens, garlic, onions, raspberries and finally this year blueberries and grapes. I learned I need to net the grapes with organza mesh bags bc the birds got them all when they got the size of my hands!! They were so tasty too. Blueberries look awesome this year so its time to get them netted! I just wish my fruit trees would give me something. Happy gardening!!
Great job! Really enjoy seeing all the different things you're growing and trying out. Very inspiring! Thank you for your time and effort to educate others!
Hi Anthony. I recommend you look into Hidden Rose/Mountain Rose Apples. They're similar to pink pearl in that they have red flesh but are often considered better for fresh eating. Pink Pearl is great too but really shines when used in baking.
I was here for your citrus trees 🍊 Now I have pepper plants, tomatoes, cucumbers 😅 Much love from Belgium! I have ± same winter climate, so my frost hardy citrus trees will be soon in the ground
I would love to see a short video on how you continue to get your zucchini on the string. I have mine started but it is challenging me to try to continue.
How on EARTH do you remember all these variety names??! Amazing! I keep looking for labels in your garden and I never see that, you’ve got the mind of an elephant!
You have so many tomatoes! I really need to get on this string thing. I've had 2 big tomatoes with chewed up tops this week because squirrels or birds can stand on the cattle panel they're up against and have at them. Now the rest of them are bagged up in mesh!
I'm in Wilmington. Raspberries that grow well for me are fall gold, caroline, and heritage but I like geritage the least. Blackberries- Ponca and Vonn do best for me.
Dig your garden. Finally subscribed after watching your videos for at least 4 years now I think. From 3600 ft up in the Trinity Cali Coastal range zone 7a to 8a. With 21 kinds of figs mostly in the greenhouse. The ones I brought inside didn't lose their leaves. I had 3 Violette de Bordeaux and 1 Brown Turkey survive 5 feet of snow last winter without die back. Lost about 10 fig trees though. Mostly Chicago H.
Thank you for sharing a tour on your garden, I love watching. The lemon variety I got is the Eureka, I like them better than the Mayer. Try planting Papaya and Plum .Im a senior with a lot of medical problem, but I still do gardening because I love gardening.
Your garden looks fantastic! I've been looking to see if astringent persimmons could be grown in North Carolina, so I was happy to see you had one. I grow the Super Sweet 100s cherry tomatoes and they have amazing flavor and very easy to grow. They will get heavy though so make sure they are supported well. Meyer lemons are wonderful and I am also glad to see you have one of those as well. BTW, Cara Cara oranges are my favorite. Super sweet always!!
16:55 awesome product idea!!! Adjustable length garden tripod with a pully at the top to drop the string down. Kinda like the old Coleman tripods for cooking over campfires
I feel so inspired by all your container gardening.. I will definitely put more effort into watering and fertilizer my containers. You have so many crops grown in containers that I thought it would be impossible. Thank you for a great garden tour ❤
Growing caramello this year also, the plants are super healthy and vigorous, but here in Waxhaw NC the aphids seem to favor them. Keeping them at bay with spinosad and mostly just blasting them off with water.
Always love a good garden tour! I ordered some Cascadia this year because it is supposed to be resistant to fusarium wilt. Even though I plant in containers, I have had issues with the wilt which must have contaminated the potting mix I normally use. I'm excited to see they could be a good producer when I plant them.
I am so so thankful to have found you. Living in south eastern North Carolina l’m always questioning myself trying to grow with our weather. I really appreciate all the knowledge you’re sharing for our area, especially growing lemons and your variety of tomatoes I had no idea I could grow. Now I’m a faithful follower ❤
Thanks as always for the great videos. One suggestion for your avocado if you haven't already tried it... Trace minerals, specifically Azomite & Langbeinite in this case. Good luck!!!
Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge and tips. It has been very helpful for me here in GA Zone 8A. I've been starting to work on ant control this year.
I'm in envy of what you have. I started this year on a garden and some trees. I'm way behind because weather in Arkansas changes so often and I was scared to plant stuff to early.
Wow very impressive!! what a beautiful garden. I live in zone 5 so I would be confused and have no idea what to grow or when to grow in North Carolina. I always learn something here. Thanks
With regards to the brassicas you have in your garden, do you ever allow them to go to seed? If so, what is your method? Do you leave broccoli, cauliflower and cabbages on the plant (no harvesting) to encourage seed production? I would like to learn more about doing this on my own plants to save seed, or self seed in and around my garden for continuous brassica growth every year. Is this achievable do you think? 🤔
Happy Birthday to Daisy !!! I can see how you are getting backed up with your garden. I mean over a half an hour just to show us it all! Fantastic.I love seeing your garden thrive!!
You had some barrels sitting between your trees that are black and thinking that's to warm up during the sunny days in the winter to retain heat next to the plants. Also you have a water collection system which looks interesting. If you have done videos on them please list those otherwise would love to know more
Love your garden! Just curious, what do you do with ALL your produce? Your late spring garden tour was so inspiring. Love how you use straw bales. Very interesting.
We live in central NC so the timing of what we do matches what you do when you upload the video. Great! My question is how do you know if the straw bales weren’t grown on Grazon treated pastures?
I was just wondering if you like Figs ;) Anyhow, I had watched one of your Dwarf Tomato vids and decided to do that this year, 25 plants with 9 different ones. Starting to grow since our weather finally warmed up. I am also starting corn now in transplants and plant them where my Garlic is when I pull them up. I also have 2 Pepino plants so trying something new :) Also got a quince tree hope that works. Thanks for all the information you provide
It is a challenge. It’s an 80-100 hr a week commitment. 40-50 hrs a week for the full-time job, 30-40 hrs a week for RUclips, 1-2 hrs a day for the garden. But nothing easy is worth doing 😅
@@TheMillennialGardener I commend you for the hard work and commitment. I started a garden this year in Western NC and your videos have helped me greatly.
It all looks great! As a long time subscriber, I would really appreciate hearing about your fruit tree spray program...I try to buy the most disease resistant cultivars, but little success so far (zone 8A-AR)
I didn't know you could grow oranges and lemons in NC. I'll have to see if they're viable in 8a where I'm located in the middle of the state. These are 2 fruits I've always wanted but they aren't listed in the list of viable fruit trees on the NC State website. Is it because you're close to the coast or can they grow further inland?
Lol. June first is early spring here. I wad just able to plant my stuff out side a couple of weeks ago, and i was pushing it. My garden wont look like that for a month or so still.
Hi there, your videos and your garden are so inspiring - you do an awesome job! Have you fed your avocado with zinc? I've learned that no zinc, no avocado crop... just an idea.
Would love to hear if you figure out what’s going on with the DSJG as far as it being green when you cut back, but ultimately not growing back. I’m having the same issue here is central Texas with a number of my fig trees, DSJG being one of them. I suspect cold damage in sporadic places that is not seen (lower down trunk) & may be preventing adequate sap flow.. So frustrating 😢 On a good note, your yard n garden look absolutely amazing 👍🏼
I would love to see slices of the different cucumbers. I prefer growing cukes with small seeds. This year, I'm growing Japanese and Space Savers BTW. What are you going to do with all those figs?
@@TheMillennialGardener You have an abundance of fig tree varieties growing in your garden. Will you be planting the ones in the buckets in ground in your front & back yards in future or will you keep them in those buckets for a long period of time? Love fig trees, my mum has one which she planted 60 years ago and the branches are humungous and thick. Through the years it has required multiple prunings as it has the tendency to grow very big and can quickly take over her yard area.
They grow the same as tomatoes. They are all nightshades. They like the same fertilizing routine. Except they’re very disease resistant and set fruit in heat. They’re like an easy tomato. Give them sun and feed them well.
For the record, they're wheat straw. Wheat straw is usually better than hay, because hay is often treated and contains a lot of seeds. If you use hay, you need to be sure it's not treated with herbicides.
I'm near Atlanta and have the same bugs and muggy conditions. When do you start your next batch of tomatoes to replace those that succumb to all the diseases?
Straw bales. Wheat or grass? Do you have a video with fertilizer info? White cover to keep in moisture? Amazing successes. Thanks for videos with details. Oh you forgot something. Was that vanilla ice cream?

The figs and citrus trees look so healthy!
Vertical space is the most underutilized dimension. Nice to see how cucumbers and other plants grow upwards so well
Thanks for sharing the highs and lows of your garden. It's very relatable and informative.
Your garden is amazing 👏 Happy birthday Daisy 🎂 Looks like all the pups had a great time 🙂
Thank you! They did. They were very happy all vacation.
I highly recommend SloBolt lettuce. It really lives up to its' name and is still sweet long after the rest have bolted.
Holy crap you are so far ahead of me in tomato growth!!! I need to fertilize 😅

I am also starting corn now in transplants and plant them where my Garlic is when I pull them up. I also have 2 Pepino plants so trying something new :) Also got a quince tree hope that works.
Thanks for all the information you provide
Fantastic! I can only hope for results like yours!
I’m excited for the experimental figs
Beautiful food forest! Thank you for all the amazing tips and tricks. Especially the fertilizer videos.
Thank you! I really appreciate it. I'm glad the fertilizer videos are helpful.
Impressed that you can manage all that and still have a full time job.
You should try the petals of the feijoa! Sometimes they are really sweet!
Interesting observation about growing zucchini in soil vs. soilless growing medium.
Lol. June first is early spring here. I wad just able to plant my stuff out side a couple of weeks ago, and i was pushing it. My garden wont look like that for a month or so still.
Our tomato season ends August 1. You have to get them in in March, because they’re dead by late July if you’re lucky. Heirlooms are dead in June 😆
So frustrating 😢
On a good note, your yard n garden look absolutely amazing 👍🏼
I would love to see slices of the different cucumbers. I prefer growing cukes with small seeds. This year, I'm growing Japanese and Space Savers
BTW. What are you going to do with all those figs?
I featured that in a video 2 weeks ago: ruclips.net/video/sL-Z-KUDojU/видео.html
I'll have another cucumber video next week probably.

You have an abundance of fig tree varieties growing in your garden.
Great garden! Have you thought of planting any companion flowers?
We need more Home Depot buckets in these videos. 😂😂😂
They used to be $2 a piece and lasted 3 years. Now, they're $5 and barely last a season. I don't buy them anymore.
keep picking to get more fruits
I struggle with eggplants. Do you have any videos on how to grow eggplants?
They grow the same as tomatoes. They are all nightshades. They like the same fertilizing routine. Except they’re very disease resistant and set fruit in heat. They’re like an easy tomato. Give them sun and feed them well.
Same. Planted 3 this year. My pepper and tomato plants are doing really well and are starting to fruit. Two out of the 3 eggplants have died.
@@TheMillennialGardener Thanks. I will try. Tomatoes definitely easier for me though!! Lol. Bugs destroy eggplants!
Looks fantastic. Would like to try the hay bail technique. Job well done.
For the record, they're wheat straw. Wheat straw is usually better than hay, because hay is often treated and contains a lot of seeds. If you use hay, you need to be sure it's not treated with herbicides.
Do you freeze figs or can you? Your gardens are beautiful. I really like the strw bales.
