Forgive my fellow countrymen, wee bit rude , Beautiful vessel.
I think most would perhaps not realize the efforts required to design and construct something like this, phenomenal
Thank you. I was just thinking the same thing. He needs a happy pill to describe it with little more enthusiasm. He sucks ass.
Liking this boat the more I look at it !!
6:22 I would change the forward cabin in an office(multinational) space. 2 guest cabins is more than enough!
I also don't need such a big kitchen with so many counters. I would cut it off by a lot and make the VIP bathroom larger, maybe also the VIP cabin. I would never use so many damn counters haha.
love that boat! Amazing space !
I love the Neel 51! I am still a few years off from getting into the order queue but I WANT this boat!
Kristian Oye why not buy a second hand boat?
This was essentially the second tour of the interior that you did. Now please do a performance review.
Lovely boat!
Thank you 🙏 thank you thank you 🙏 Trimarans FTW 🙌⛵️⛵️⛵️🙌 TOBY Rocks !!!!
24 page multihull supplement coming with the next (Jan 18) issue!
Can't wait for it !! As a footnote: I'm a bit as you would say "gob smacked" at the amount of boat you get for the money. This is less expensive than a Outremer 45 and probably performs just as well.
More of how she moves, and my head just exploded into candy. This is the apotheosis of sail design. Every fiber of my being say she will tradewind sail and blue water cruise like marilyn monroe.
Beautiful yacht
This actually has the potential to be a fully electric or hybrid unit. I would get rid of that noisy gas engine for sure. Tour a 'Quiet' unit and you'll be blown away.
The question is can you leave the diesel engine in while adding two electric ocean volt drives. That would Make this boat amazing.
Yeah been thinking along those same lines. I would add electric propulsion in addition to the gas engine, keep it for redundancy and for occasions you need extra speed/power. I would much rather lose the generator and use the engine for backup charger for the batteries
Incredible and beautiful vessel
Winner Winner so many possibilities.
Thanks for sharing 😎
A Penthouse Sailing Around The World. So Much Space. 🤓👍
I enjoyed the video, the helm look a little disorganized with all the ropes on the ground. Layout seems strange. Keep the videos coming.
SICK!
I would like to see Toby giving these NEELS (51 and 65) a robust sea trail in heavy seas this year. Just how Bluewater capable are they?
very! done thousands of miles
@@carryonsailing Ah I just saw ur channel about it! Is it ok single-handed? I was looking at buying a leopard-45 ..But might change my mind. What passages did you do in this one?
@@nks487 Neil on a Neel that would fit fine hahaha
Great Review! You're always very true!
Saw one in Miami yesterday...No it’s not that much space because it’s all on one level so you do make a sacrifice and that is actually what makes it so cool
are you cooked? its a literal 3 level boat
If I was rich this would be what I would get. So much space, it's a house on the water that you can sail with characteristics closer to a mono hull than a cat. Can someone please give me one of these.....lol
What characteristics do you mean?
Alexandre Allegro - a cat does not give in the wind, but a Tri will act somewhat like a mono hull as it will lean and about be the waves rather than crashing through them in a cat
You don't need to be rich, just middle class
@@themangastand8475 Please define what you mean by Middle class?
I always benefit from Toby's reviews. Given the Neel's highly charged review history, I'd be very interested in a more critical perspective on seaworthiness and finish. Given some of Toby's previous reviews I've watched, perhaps the most instructive things from this video is what he *didn't* say.
might be very true....
@@maddocmucmaddocmuc5341 Lol the last thing he said was, that might be a boat for me to lol
Seems like he's trying really hard not to use the word "cheap" when talking about the materials used on the boat, but it's the most appropriate word to describe it. I like the design overall, and I'd be interested in seeing some proper sea trials to get an idea of her performance, but for the money they're asking they need to get someone in to do a better job on the interior. Maybe talk to the people at Xquisite catamarans. Their interiors are gorgeous!! I'd also like to hear an update on how they overcame their quality control issues, with the transoms on a number of their first boats coming completely off at sea.
I do believe the Xcuisites are almost double the $! I’m guessing this would then compare?
But, Xcuisites after sales and support is untouchable!
I like some of the overall design ideas in the Neel trimarans, but some of the construction and interior details do seem cheap for lack of a better word. I would be highly concerned about construction quality, durability and safety because of that.
Perhaps they solved the problem of transoms separating from hulls, but the fact that it happened in the first place is a very major concern.
@@LoanwordEggcorn - Yeah, that transom separation incident was pretty horrific. I understand it happened because the owner overloaded the davits, lifting a dingy that was well beyond factory tolerances.
Having said that, I would expect the davits to break in a situation like that, or pull free of the hull, not rip the entire transom out of the boat, which speaks to a serious lack of proper engineering and construction in that area. And, as you said, if these were lacking in that area, where else are they lacking?
I can only imagine Neel went back to the drawing board to reinforce/re-engineer that area on future builds, but it would still put a serious dent in my confidence as a buyer spending that kind of money on a boat like that.
On the flip side of that coin, the channel SailOceans here on RUclips has been sailing their 50-foot Neel trimaran all over the world for years now with very little trouble it seems.
@@meadmaker4525 Agree with all of your comments. It's not so much that a boat can survive typical operation, but how does it handle unusual events that can and do happen in the real world, including obvious things like storms.
I'm more concerned about the overall design/build philosophy that seems to not be sufficiently robust, as reflected in the transom issue, but also general construction practices visible in some of the videos.
This is not to say that Neel is the only boatmaker with possible problems. The Lagoon 450S is now famous for having possibly underlaminated/undersized plywood bulkheads break and/or separate from the hulls. Some of the latter may be due to cost cutting during manufacturing engineering.
If so, then some builders may be putting customer lives at risk in order to make more profits or more sales due to lower prices. Buyers need to be mindful of this.
Caveat emptor.
Having a Rolls-Royce and saying "She's moving through the road quite handsomely"...
Do the guys who sail these wonderful boats understand how lucky they are?
What are yall recording with? Quality seems terrible at 1080, 720 gets rid of the banding but still very odd. Second video I have seen with this issue...
genuine polyester fabric. An interesting mud color scheme
It would take a hell of a lot more wind than that to get my heavy 52S to heave!
but how does it handle a crossing or rough weather
I want this boat now! do you take foodstamp for the down payment?
It's crazy how much space is on this yacht. Nothing in this size range comes close.
Trimarans are faster & perform better than cats; love the layout, shame about narrow ama accomodation - but life's a compromise!
Wauw
Is the one engine enough for manoeuvrability in close quarters ?
good point , there is bow thruster still tough only one engine
What is this like to sail compared to a cat of the same size?
Price actually seem very reasonable
I would've liked some review of the boat rather than just a description. I wonder if the quality concerns are legitimate.
I have raced monohull sailboats from Hawaii to California from California to Mexico and everything else is what I'm looking for now is what the America's Cup has done I'm looking for a trimaran that can be modified to fly and go around the world I know how to handle it and what to do but I can't find anything decent and everybody thinks their stuff is just top-shelf course that's because they're trying to get as much money out of it as possible any help out there
Have you checked Dragonfly Trimarans? They might be too small for Americans though.
The comments prove that taste is purely subjective.
Trimaran is arguably the best boat type: tris are more generally more stable and safer than catamarans, which are generally more stable and safer than monohulls.
Hopefully other makers will enter the trimaran market with boats that have better construction quality and interior quality than Neel. Corsair, Dragonfly, Rapido, even Marsaudon would be my choices long before Neel.
That said, like some of the Neel layout ideas.
Can u sail around the world in this ?
Yes
It's called a Garage !
I'm just curious why more Cat builders have not opted to design a trimaran? If the benefits are as good as they seem, it's crazy that not every builder has at least one model for sale
I agree, but I suspect trimarans aren't that much faster since only two of the hulls are in the water anyway, effectively making it a catamaran.
Why did you ever decide that it was a good idea to put an interlaced video online? It looks horrible. Interlacing is an analog technology and it should stay there.
Shut up and take my money!
How tall are you
interior bought from ikea
Yeah, that's about the worst part of this thing. Over a million USD, looks like IKEA. At this price, you'd expect custom cabinetry -- all the bling, and real looking beds. It just looks like cheap mattresses thrown in a wood box. Does that top deck even seal up? If you're in the Atlantic this boat will be terrible because you cannot close off the wind to cook or do anything really. If you're going to be south of the equator or in the Caribbean these are non-issues.... But, that's a damn shame because for that money that boat should go anywhere. :D The only thing I like about it is the engine room, but that being said most trimarans have good engine rooms like this, without the IKEA. Also, no rails on the bunks means if the sea is bad you aren't sleeping as you get thrown all over the cabin. This thing will be great handling in the seas, even bad ones, but keeping in that weather is about endurance and all I can see is the crew not being able to get shelter or sleep.
SNOB trash alert...
hello experts... this trimaran mandatory need crew??? if the answer is yes... the previous model (neel 47) need crew???
No, you can easily sail the Neel 47 or the Neel 51 single handed
Like many cruising sailboats, they are designed for shorthanded sailing by couples.
An asymmetrical hasmapher?
Soooooo silent. If you hadn’t shown the water and sheets I’d have thought she was at anchor. WOW.
how many people minimum would you need to sale this or any other caterman could one man sale a cat?
Yes, you can sail this Trimaran single handed
One day!
Den wird ich gern mal bei harter See sehen, da ist der Luxus schnell vergessen.
Würde
the middle hull is incredibly stupid used. there is such a small motor inside this big hull. put it in the back of the boat. and use the front of the hull for storrage or sleeping space. also you could put something in to isolate the noise from the engine. trust me if you hear engine sounds over 3 hours you get insane.
where's the dinghy?
Never talk about the performance?
Think I would want some soundproofing in the engine room
Robbie Surfer didn't you hear the door shut?
Thomas D Harrell yes but it was still too much sound for my liking
I agree if i was spending that sort of money i would not want to hear the engine pounding away, but its not a hard fix
Robbie Surfer easy fix to add a few sound blankets
Didn't Neel have a problem with one sinking 18 hrs after launch?
nathan feldman I saw a couple of videos about a 45 with all sorts of craftmanship issues, including the big hole that made it sink and a mulfunctioning bilge pump. Is that true?
I thought these multihulls were unsinkable? Sure, they're mostly unusable once upside-down, but, as you stand tall on the upturned hull and watch your rescuers getting closer, you can proudly tell your wife, 'See honey, we're not even wet!'
Not true as far as info I can find.
It is out there and plenty of it the rear of the center hull came loose. Along with wiring issues. I find it ironic that at 8:20 that you can see light spots where it don't look like the rear main hull got a final coat of paint and allowing sun to come threw. wow
dublin innis Hi Dublin. The lighter sections you mentioned look like ventilation spaces, to let air in for combustion and heat out.
wheres the dinghy?
Can they tip over?
If this Trimaran tips over, everything can tip over...
Not much headroom.
I would want one if not for the amount of times they have sunk
they can't sink...
How much are we talking, €1m ??
The cabins are much smaller than on a cat of similar length.
Ya but there is 4 instead of 2 and also if you take a cat that would have the same performance (like the outremer and not a big fat cruising cat) the cabin are pretty much the same
Cats that size have 3-5 cabins depending on how you want it configured.
I'm not saying the contrary but if you tale an outremer 51 which is for me the only cat that you could compare the neel with the cabin are the same size except for the owner's and also there is less privacy as you need two in each hull. If you take a lagoon or a similar cruising cat the cabin will be bigger but good luck tacking in the wind
Who cares. You will not be in them. Master is up top. Vast majority of people sail with 2.
A dryer on a boat ? C’mon !
I would rather have an office upstairs.... bed seems weird... you can walk up and lie on the couch and enjoy the view. in the morning...
6 knots in 6 knots of wind? With the engine running. That doesn't impress me.
Plus de traduction 😢
The fact that the engine is completely un garded in a space like that is shocking. youd only go in if there was a problem. Risking ripping your arm off is stupid. What other short cuts are there?
what the fuck are you talking about? literally bitching about nothing, making yourself seem stooopid
@@pred7949 you must be a first class engineer. first class stupid would be ripping a hand off because you cant spend 5 quid on a machinery guard. You would probably be the kind of highly intelligent person who would sue the company when your own ignorance caused your injury. Stay well.
@@richzxc99 it seems that you are speaking from your own experience here, remember not everyone is as ill educated as yourself mam. Also, there isn't anything like a first class engineer. Rather educate yourself on a topic rather than running to the comment section and confessing your character

Looks like the inside of a trailer. Poorly appointed.
This boat has a Walmart feel go it. Like it will only hold up for a year before lookimg "junkie"
I agree the interior construction looks cheap and poorly thought out. Too many "Optional" things I'd consider necessities. The ventilation in the cabins looks poor. No heat or a/c, so fair weather sailing only. What do these designers have against vents over the stoves? No microwave. Crap material countertops.Otherwise I like the galley. Nav station looks useless. Not nearly enough fuel tanksge. No dive compressor. Not enough standard freezer space. I'd prefer hard deck rails (Not wire)and handrails on deck along with powered winches. Kind of liked the little laundry room, but thought I saw where they thought it could be a crew berth on the Mark 1. I saw something about a garage in some of the literature, but don't see it, and I don't quite see how you could cleanly install dingy davits. Lounge tv in moronic position. Would be very difficult and expensive to install any type of additional cockpit protection. While an attractive entry price, by the time you made this boat truly ready to do some passagemaking with real creature comforts for a decent crew compliment, you'll likely double your initial investment. Needs a minimal 120v circuit too. Great idea. Poor execution. Maybe someday, but not today. Style over very little substance. SMH.
cheap shit comes free on this model.a new one on its firsr sail de-lamited on the entire stern and was poster on you tube with the disclamer of :no replys taken: you can see the whole stoyr on you yube and the hush up on the possible sinking and loss of crew what can you say BUYER BEWARE -GET A GOOD LAWYER ?ed
ed plow Meh. The magazine's will continue to collude with the manufacturers so they don't get frozen out on upcoming models.
ed plow completely mischaracterized the situation. Yes there were problems not all the blame goes to NEEL either, the owner caused some of it himself by not following the vessels guide lines. They did fix it and there is no prof of it being more then a one off problem and it wasn't built in there new facility's it was done out of house. There are plenty of other 45s cruising around and no one else has been unhappy with there trimorans from NEEL so nice uninformed smear job.
Spoken like someone without $800,000 to spend and yes there are other CATAMARANS with better layouts and nicer finishings (because the owner paid for them). But let's not lose sight of the fact this is without a doubt the best layout for a PRODUCTION TRIMARAN I have seen or anyone else for A TRIMARAN.
Jerry, this boat was designed not to snob folks, but the working class like us are loved it!
No bow thruster??!! Have fun parking this thing...!!!
There is a bow thruster in the front
@@jeltetietze4328 ya, that's usually where they put the "bowthruster"...
Million dollar yacht and you can't fit a proper handle/latch on the engine room door?
Its kind of dumb you can't drive the boat from in side the cabin only out side? I sure wouldn't want to be at the helm when there's high waves, wind or rain looks to me like you would be very uncomfortable and get your ass kicked out there. Plus why would you have gps and all the electrical navigation equipment inside that should be in front of the captain at the helm? A Lot of things to fix on these boats. also you should b able to control the sails from in side as well ! But otherwise its a nice boat!!!!
WHERE DO HEADS EMPTY? THE HOLDING TANK, OR THE OCEAN? JUST ASKING OLD ONE LEGGED JOSEPH T RETIRED NAVY
Holding tank
you only got 6 knots. not much to show. do another in high wind.
6 knots in 6 knots of wind. thats a lot of show in terms of going places. average 40 footers max out at say 8 knots in 15knots of wind ish.
One should view the video of the 45 before ever thinking about buying one
Might look good but I could never trust their construction
This guy can put you to sleep
No, it very much NOT like a monohull - someone is a tri-hull fanboy who wants to appeal to the mono hull fans (which is most sailors - even accounting for cost).
Nothing like hearing a guy bragging about his boat
If your interested in Neel take a look at this first. ruclips.net/video/KZEEyZXpcLY/видео.html
Pity about the very poor quality of the fittings and carpentry. This is not a boat that you could trust on a trans atlantic cruise.
These things flip over real easy, always see owners crawling around the upturned boat shouting for help, in the Solent.
That's not true
