- A True Hidden Gem: Chinatown Diner is tucked away inside a YMCA in Newark, NJ. Who woulda thunk it? What's crazy is that the food is not good, but great! Some of the best General Tso I've ever had. I will be back to try my other favorite dishes but in the meantime, ya'll should go check it out for yourself. Please, leave me a comment or suggestions of places I should visit next. When i first moved to the east coast, i went through a broke phase, and American Chinese takeout helped me during those tough times. Back then it was even cheaper, $5 went a long way so I’ll always be thankful for the Chinese takeout spots.

How long have they been there? Up until about a decade ago I used to make deliveries right across Broad St. from there and all over downtown Newark, and would never have thought to look for this. It all looks good, basic and delicious.

My go-to at the Chinese spot definitely gotta be the roasted pork over rice or the mapo tofu. Definitely an interesting find there probably was an American style cafeteria before.
The food look so good. I finally had some good General Tso chicken when I went back home to see my mom in NY. Not everybody can make it good. Man I miss east coast pizza and Chinese food.

Man, I got to disagree with you on this one that looks basic as hell although I’m not there and I’m not tasting it. I’m just giving my opinion based on my go to Sesame chicken and that is two little food for $18… just my opinion
