My first job at Westinghouse Brake and Signal Australia was in the design office at Belmore, in 1978. I designed the signalling circuits for Strathfield Sub Relay Room S1 and the location circuits at Flemington Car Sidings. I later took part in bell testing the wiring at the Main Signal Box at Strathfield. It was the start of my Signalling career.
I remember this it cost $24 million in 1982 and was the year I commenced my apprenticeship with the SRA in Signals and Communications, after completion I was the signal electrician at Hornsby for a few years. Hornsby signal box had the pistol grip leavers with "style C" compressed air driven points mechanisms. After it was modernized the entire signal box was relocated closer towards the platform and preserved for its historic value.

I was a signalman for 3 years it was an effort to move the points. Pleasant memories of the railways.
Looks like Strathfield Box to me. Yet the reporter keeps referring to Ashfield?
