      I don't disagree...... but generally speaking, I tend to be more amazed by how many records there are where there are only like 10 known copies, and you can at least get decent-quality pictures of them. Intuitively, it seems like we'd never find out about records where the whole run was trashed, but given how many bands are out there that only ever put out a demo, I think there would be a lot of people talking about their "lost" albums if there were very many out there.....

    Got my Sacred Warrior album yesterday, thanks. So glad to see those UFO albums fall into your lap like that, I rank the Chapman albums Wild/Mechanix/Making/No Place. I think Obsession is pretty much a dud, they had hit the wall with Schenker and it shows, No Place To Run is a tentative step forward with a new creative partner but by Wild they were full steam ahead with the next level songwriting. Keep your eyes open for Mechanix and Making Contact, they are often overlooked but contain some of the very best songs the band ever wrote. I'm pretty much burned out on NWOBHM reissues unless it's a band with an atypical sound for the genre but since you've got plenty already my recommendation would be the early BLACK ROSE demos that High Roller released as 'Loveshock'. Perfect example of a band who burned brightest with their earliest material and had a long, slow descent (although they were never terrible) with every subsequent release, check that one out if you're unfamilar. Finally, if you can be sold on MENTAL POWERS then let me drop a couple of Greek gems on you that wouldn't be considered dumpster material in the first place. First off check out CRUSH--Kingdom Of The Kings, just a fantastic power metal killer released in 93 but sounds like prime epic US metal from 85-86, probably the most celebrated traditional heavy metal album to ever come out of Greece. Finally the troo kvlt underground scum will want to acquire the very first Greek metal album which was recorded in 82...and not released until 2017. HEAVEN AND HELL--Heavy Remastered, fantastic doom from these guys who sound like they were channeling psychic emanations from Pentagram across the Atlantic but more likely were doing their own take on the first 3 Sabbath albums because I don't know how else a band 'invents' heavy metal in their kinda-not-doing-so-great-but-at-least-we're-not-in-the-Warsaw-Pact country. Enjoy!

    • @MetalTheologian
      @MetalTheologian  9 месяцев назад +1

      That's awesome man, thanks for the tips! I'll be keeping an eye out for those Greek titles for sure, especially since, as much as I hate to admit it, there aren't a lot of Greek bands I'm really in love with. Vavel is kinda the "big" one, but it never really blew my mind, and of the other couple I can even think of (Northwind and Spitfire), none are bad, but none is really outstanding either. I'll keep an open mind on those later UFOs... I never heard much good about them till very recently, right here in my comments, so I might well have snoozed on them, especially Making Contact. Thanks!

    I'm a big fan of Girl's previous album. Mainly because it features an early version of LA Guns' absolute best cut "Hollywood Tease", and I'm a sucker for that late 80's sleazy glam (Phil Lewis is the better Phil - sorry Phil Collen). Hey Arron! Great continuation of the UFO conversation that you started previously. Those Paul Chapman albums are good but they lack the magic of the Michael Schenker. IMO. Michael provided a much needed personality for the band. Still, No Place to Run is a d@mn fine hard rock album. An album I had on cassette as a teenager. At the time, I carried a boom-box around with me wherever went. Lol. oh…I know the Girl album too. It's funny you mention not really liking those two UFO album covers...I've always thought that the No Place to Run cover is their only good album cover. It's the only one to make them look like a hard rock or metal band. I think the Hipgnosis album covers are the reason UFO was never as big as the Scorps...the album covers never made them look like a heavy band. Girl's a funny one for me. One time I'll listen to them and dig the album, then won't like it the next time. I do like the first album better than the second that you showed.

    • @MetalTheologian
      @MetalTheologian  9 месяцев назад

      Well, I do agree that No Place to Run is probably their best cover design... except maybe Phenomenon, which I do think is a pretty cool-looking cover, but like you say, does nothing to represent the band as "heavy", hahaha. Regarding the UFO vs. Scorpions covers... I don't know, man, it's not like Fly to the Rainbow communicates "heaviness" with that weird design, and In Trance just looks kind of stupid. The original cover for Taken By Force looks like it has some rock potential (that's why I went out of my way to get it, haha), but I don't know if you can build a particularly strong case for their marketing based solely on that. I have a few bands where I respond the way you do with Girl: When it hits me right, I love it, and when it doesn't, I wonder, What the hell was I thinking all those other times??
