I love GT racing but why not race 1.5 hours instead? A couple of safety cars and the race is basically over.

The BOP is fine. Both BMW and Porsche aren't committing as hard into the European GT scene apart from maybe DTM. Their best drivers compete in IMSA and we'll maybe see them in the Spa 24 Hours, Le Mans 24 Hours, and the Nürburgring 24 Hours.

It's to try and prevent the same car winning every race, this championship has gone down to the last race of the season for as long as I can remember so it works 👍
Keeps the championship competitive.
