    I bet that rotten tire in the trunk was on the passenger side rear when it blew and sheared off the back axel and the shock also shattered the rear window. The rear diff also looks crooked which a blowout would also explain. Always very dangerous to drive on dry rotted tires. Was a really nice looking Caddy once upon a time. Good parts car.

    Makes you wonder about the day the original owner drove it off the lot. As it was driven home brand new, the owner could never have imagined that 45 years later, a thousand plus people from all over the world, would be viewing a video of it, as it sat dilapidated but mostly intact, discarded in a junk yard.

    • @googleusergp
      @googleusergp 2 месяца назад +2

      1979 is the last year for the 425 V8. The 368 CID engine was used from 1980-1984 in various models. The carbureted 368 was used in commercial cars after 1980 and the modulated displacement 368 CID V8 was used across the board in 1981 and in commercial cars after that year through 1984.

      Not correct. Both the Coupe DeVille and the Fleetwood went to the "D body" line in 1984, not 1985. The "D" body continued with the two and four door Fleetwoods in 1985 (as by 1985, the DeVilles became the FWD "C" body) and then continued as "D body" through the 1996 model year.

      @@user-mp3hw9bm3n The 1993-1996 Brougham RWD models were "D" bodies, using the same "D body" nomenclature as the 1984-1992 models. In 1984, the DeVille was on the "D" body platform and in the same parts book as the RWD Fleetwoods. It's a 1984-1992 "D body" parts book and covers 1984 DeVille and Fleetwood and 1985-1992 Fleetwood RWD models.

      They're not always there. Sometimes they are above the fuel tank or in other places, or not there at all. This being a Southgate, CA assembled car, it's the worst of the worst. You would have wanted one assembled at Clark Street in Detroit (VIN code "9") instead.

    Whoa, Nelley, 1979 and out of time. Those fillers are reproduced. No sense in buying 45+ year weathered originals.
    We got the VIN, we win: 6 for Cadillac, D for DeVille, 69 for four door sedan, S for 425 CID V8 with four barrel, Cadillac produced, aka "Last of the Breed", 9 for 1979 model year, C for Southgate, CA assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Southgate plant closed in 1982 and was one of the "Terrible Three" of the GM system. Yes, 1979 is the last year for the 425 V8. The biggest V8 for 1980 would be the 368 CID V8. Both the 368 and 425 Cadillac V8s were excellent engines, except the oiling system was a bit weak. They would run well if taken care of and were whisper quiet engines. This car is paired with a THM400 transmission. Yes, I'll say it again: you made it in the world if you had one of these in 1979.
    No tag, can't brag, but easy to figure out, no doubt: ST79 for 1979 model year, 6CD69 for Cadillac (6) Deville (CD) four door (69), C for Southgate, CA assembly, 03A,B,C for March 1979 production in a given week, 69L and 69U for Post Road Brown lower and upper exterior paint, 603 for Antique Saddle interior trim, among other codes.
    Whoa Nelley, Cadu, it's over for you. Painted brown and wearing a frown. 425 took a nosedive. That's it, time to quit. Made in CA and going away. Cadillac sedan ready for the trash can. Going to be flat and that's that. Turbo Hydramatic is now nothing but static. "Oh baby, you know you who you are" (Cry for the Bad Man/Lynyrd Skynyrd/Gimme Back My Bullets/1976) and this one won't go very far. Lots of fake wood and now it's no good. Please don't get squished because the Cadillac faithful, many here, maybe not Benny, but for sure the Google Man is going to be very, very, very, very pissed.
