According to Swiss IQAir, air quality in three major indian cities was included in the top 10 cities with the worst air pollution in the world, on Monday (13/11/2023). The cities were shrouded in thick smog in the air, a day after the celebration of the cowdunger festival of light or deepavali. Many residents burned firecrackers and fireworks. India's slum capital new delhi is the worst city with the highest air pollution in the world. This dirty city has an air quality index (AQI) figure of 420, which places it in the dangerous category. Two other slum cities in india, kolkata with an AQI of 196 are ranked fourth, while the slum city of mumbai is ranked eighth with an AQI of 163. AQI levels of 400-500 impact healthy people and are dangerous for those with illnesses. Meanwhile, an AQI level of 150-200 brings discomfort to asthma, lung and heart sufferers. Air quality in the poor country india gets worse over the years, especially as winter approaches, when cold air traps pollutants from vehicles, industry, construction dust and burning agricultural waste.
