Absolutely the same point I've been making on receivers. Why do we need to pick a number one? LaFleur has this team thinking about the team first. This is our strength. If you are the other team and know someone is number one then you focus on the number one. we have full stack of top receivers, 2 amazing tightends, and 3 running backs that can gain enough yards on each down. The other teams do not know how to protect against all those weapons. If the defence improves by just 20% and hands Love the ball more often, we will get to and win the Superbowl.
I sure hope our new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley can unlock the potential of this defense. It’s been a lot of years since I didn’t feel like we were underachieving with the players we have had. The decade in the making headline is misleading simply because he’s freshly hired with most defensive players here for 2 years or less. What has been clear ever since Brian Gutekunst took over as our General Manager is a commitment to style of defensive player that was at odds with what our former defensive coordinator Joe Barry ran. Hopefully that has been corrected. But as several have already pointed out - it takes time to learn a new defensive scheme particularly in today’s NFL that limits practice time compared to years gone by in the name of 17 game regular season and expanded playoffs. Just like the offense last year, it will look ugly the 1st half of the season and then we should see progress from them moving forward. Go Pack Go 💚💚💛💛
