One thing that kinda adds to this Godzilla's characterization is that he very clearly knows how to fight. He dodges, parries, or catches attacks to make openings, even though those attacks aren't necessarily a threat to him. He doesn't rely on that durability, but also uses the fact he doesn't to his advantage, such as catching the first Gigan Miles' attacks to leave it open for him to swiftly kill it, or catching Gigan Rex's chain whips to pull him into a tail whip. I appreciate that level of combat skill, and once more, kinda harkens back to the late Showa Era were the Big G was a bit more competent of a fighter.
Yep, & all the ducking & swinging Godzilla did in the live action tribute to Gigan bodes well , that the upcoming film from Toho will be more action related than the latest Toho Godzilla film Shin Godzilla, as well as those beam but dont touch exchanges this IS the Heisei era of Godzilla.
If like me you believe him to be Junior, then I guess he remembers a time when he was vulnerable (like when he met Spacegodzilla and fought the Aggregate Destoroyah), and those experiences have stuck with him, even though they don't apply to him in adulthood.
I absolutely loved the gigan Rex short with great visuals, action and really wild additions like godzilla's white heat ray and some of the impressive things gigan Rex can do. There's also the fact that the godzilla in this short could be jounor all grown up and the narrator in the beginning was actually Miki's actress is so heartwarming. Also as gigan is my favorite monster of the series I'm very happy.
Holy shit, I remember that Gigan fansite you mentioned. It was the work of a user called DestroyahDes who ended up dropping the project in favor of simping for Dr. Frink from _The Simpsons_ (and ended up with an Encyclopedia Dramatica entry).
Weird, I don't understand why the suitimation short film was taken down. They were using a Toho suit (from Final Wars), the LAST Toho suit. Did they not have permission from Toho to do that film, after the honor they received from doing the Smog Monster short last year??
Godzilla having five fingers does fit the fact that he's a result of nuclear testing from humans. And in some ways, the hands do allow humans to reflect on how they're greatest accomplishments can sometimes be their downfalls. Though I'm not sure if it fits with this version of Godzilla as he's alluded to be Junior from the Heisei films. Then again, Junior was friendlier with humans.
Heisei Godzilla had been mutated for at least 25 years (starting from his exposure to the Soviet nuclear sub as indicated in GVKG), while Junior has been a mutant for slightly longer, so it's probably a stage in his growth.
Toho should do a new Godzilla series which is a continuation of the Heisei Era, following junior as the new Godzilla..... Probably won't happen, but a guy can dream, right?
Ahh about time! This was an amazing treat to be sure that put interesting spins on these classic monsters. Ever still I think I have a slight preference to the live action film they did that the keep trying to sweep under the rug for whatever reason. It’s nice seeing gigan get all this attention!
It's good, hopefully toho will consider bringing back godzilla Jr down the line since a fan made video isn't really canon lol. I imagine a fairly bulky version of gigan in heisei giving the monsters sizes.
Hopefully now people will start to really think hard about a crossover between Godzilla n Gamera n allow it to b a thing instead of just fan films on the internet
You mentioned that fansite that covered all the different Gigans. Now I'm curious if you'll do a video on all those Godzilla fan sites that were up back in the day but are now gone like Barry's Temple of Godzilla.
Some news not sure if this ruins or supports any headcanons One piece of promotional material refers to this Godzilla as the prior King of Monsters and stated he's had many battles, so this would imply that rather than Junior it's actually Senior come back from the dead. Oh and also Toho says all monsters in the short film are 120 meters tall.
One of the best things about the animation is that Godzilla has proper teeth. Whether it's run row, two rows, prominent fangs, or not. The Japanese seem to understand that Godzilla needs to have teeth and the American Studios just don't seem to get it as the legendary Godzilla still has measly and pathetic teeth.
Agreed! Garreth Edwards goal for his 2014 snoozefest was to make his mark with hollywood elites in hopes of directing for Disney, at the expence of the Godzilla character & fandom overall - hence things that are important like teeth, are treated as a distant afterthought. lol Godzilla showing up a couple seconds here in there while bathed in smoke, dust, & darkness makes perfect sense upon reflection.
You so lucky! I wish I had it like that. I been rightfully cursed to bitch & moan about the whole damn movie since 2014 !! lol I can overlook that fraud directornot getting Godzilla overall, stubby feet, meth mouth, etc, but for him to replace Godzillas iconic dorsal plates with painfully generic "spikes", really shows his heart simply wasnt into it.@@TRUTHISABSOLUTE777
Idk if the catalog you were talking about is the same thing I might be thinking of. I think I know what you're talking about and I remember they also had other fan comics and stories. One being Godzilla and Destoroyah were partners but Destoroyah was shrunk down and befriended a human scientist. The other stories I've read a lot on the website were the Kaiju Kids
The one he mentions was the work of one person going by the name "DestoroyahDes". All of her Gigan work has disappeared, the only trace left being a dirty image on Encyclopedia Dramatica.
@@stevele987 it doesn't matter. Teeth have a primal effect on the viewer. Godzilla must have teeth. And it must be prominent to some extent whether jagged, neatly aligned, multi layers , or missing some. He is a predator and needs to look like a predator. He is a large irradiated dinosaur that is supposed to strike some fear in those that see him. It is only natural as human viewers that he must have teeth.
As someone who wanted Junior to have his own spinoff or at the very least a continuation of where we last left off, im very satisified with this.

I like to think that when "Requiem" starts playing, it implies that Jr. is remembering his father and how he _never_ gave up.

I don’t understand why godzilla fans would get mad at some small changes like giving him five fingers.

Anyone have guesses for what Megalon’s (and potentially Jet Jaguar’s) 50th anniversary will be like?
Hopefully, something in this vein

It’s a shame that the polygon movies can’t do anything remotely like this fan animation that shows who Godzilla really is
What do you think Omni?
That white atomic breath was sick.
Truly an awesome animation, Gigan rex is a badass too
Oh wow, he actually does have 5 fingers, BEST GODZILLA DESIGN CONFIRMED.

I think this Godzilla design looks like a hybrid of Heise, Shin and even Legendary. Cool nonetheless.
Same here

The original shirt was actually an official project, sanctioned from the beginning.
