I actually love when she does her own loose timing while she's the one playing, when she tries to do it over the beat it doesnt work as well in my opinion, but this is incredible
I agree! I haven’t seen anyone else mention that about her style, but I would say that’s my only criticism of Raye is that she takes too many liberties with her melodies from the record, which are great melodies that people want to sing along with. Ad libbing is one thing, but completely rewriting the song for the live performance isn’t good formula for a tour. And plenty of artists sing a little bit behind the beat, but she’s a little too far behind the beat in my opinion.
@@RiahFinch Yea I totally agree, I think it's because she loves Jazz music. If youve seen her most recent Tiny Desk performance, that environment suits her really well (5 Star Hotel is actually better than the album version))- she does have an Amy Winehouse vibe about her, I just wish sometimes we would get performances a little closer to the record because the album is amazing. In a way I feel hesitant to get too attached because artists always come out with great pop-leaning records, using structure and great vocal melodies, and once they find success they do a bait and switch and steer away from that format (Lana Del Rey, Billie Eilish). Either way she's my favorite new artist and I'm happy for her success
@@Chief I think she did a fantastic job making multiple genres feel like pop with her writing style and lyrics. Hopefully she continues with that formula. I feel like she will because that’s how she has consistently written for other artists as well through the years.
