    • How to measure for win...
Here are some Golden Rules to remember when measuring a window for shutters inside mount, its as easy as 1,2,3 so just follow these steps for a perfect fit.
The video covers louvre size, measuring in several paces, checking the window is level and square and what to do if you have protruding air vents or handles.
Find and download measuring guides for your window on our website here - www.opennshut....
There are PDF step and step guides on all the different window types, such as wooden recess windows, sash, UPVC, angled, square or box bay windows and shaped windows.
In this video, I'll tell you about the golden rules of measuring to help you avoid mistakes.
Before you start measuring, it's important to know the louvre size, as this will dictate the frame depth you need.
Step 1. You will need to measure in 3 places across the window and use the smallest width and smallest height for your order sizes. Measure the width first, then the height and ensure you label them correctly.
Step 2. Check the how level and square the window is, you can do this with a spirit level and by measuring across the diagonal of the window recess. If your windows are more than 6-8mm out of level please refer to the PDF measuring guide or contact us for advice.
Step 3. Check for any handle protrusions, air vents, plastic trim or protruding beading around the window. The frame and louvre blades need to be fitted around these. There are different depth L frames that will give you more clearance behind the louvre blades if required and you can use battens to space the frames away or in some cases the trim can be removed. The rule to remember is to take your measurements in front of where the frame is going to fit, just in case the recess or window is angled.
Step 4. Get someone to check your measuring and what you have written down, a good tip is measure using different units as it's very easy to enter 1100mm instead of 1010mm for example. If your measuring in cm take out the decimal point or add a zero on the end to convert to mm, if you have measured in inches, times that figure by 25.4 to convert the size into mm.
You can download templates of the frames, cut them out and put them on the window sill, they show the louvre protrusion on them so you can check the if the louvres will hit anything and by measuring from one template to another you check double check the actual frame order size.
The measuring is the key, take your time getting this right and the shutters will fit.
There are PDF measuring guides that cover most window types and features, but if you need help, email me some photos of your window along with rough sizes for some advice. I can add some arrows on your images showing you where to measure, advise on the best design and how to fit them.
I am here to help and ensure you understand everything so please get in touch.
