Ignore the incorrect clip from 12:11 to 12:18 during the return trip. During that time, it should just show time warping to where I do the mid-course correction and creating a maneuver node.
Can you make a new one but without so much LOUD music? I'm old and hard of hearing and it was hard to understand you with all the music in the background... even with CC on. Thanks though! Great video, music aside!
i know this is 3 years old but thank youuu for the "Always show closest approach" setting. it helped me figure out a high inclination transfer, it was impossible for me without knowing if I was doing it correctly
This may be the single greatest KSP tutorial I've ever seen. I've always struggled with interplanetary travel, and I just successfully got to Eve and back with plenty of delta-v to spare. Thanks!
I watched your video thinking you were one of the big names in this, given how concise and simple you made the explanation, as well as the production quality. Then I saw your sub count. There is no justice in this world. You deserve a hell of a lot more subs than this! Thanks dude, you've given me the urge to play again. I'm actually considering a "KSP from first principles" myself where I try and do it all by hand, ignoring the in-game assistance, as a means of getting back into astrodynamics.
The setting at the start of the video really make it a lot easier. Of course there exist algorithms so in a way this whole thing could be totally automatic. If you want a challenge best is to turn everything off, use no maneuver nodes and set no target. Then maybe you really learn to get a feel for orbital mechanics. Difficulty is mainly a question of how much computer assistance you use.
Short and easy to understand with some KSP playtime. However i would be intrested to know what re-entry heating settings u hade for this. With that steep of a Kerbin re-entry those 2 Goo units should definatly not have survived that entry angle. If they were placed higher up then the shape of the pod would have covered them, but having them sticking out the way they did they should 100% have burned up.
Is that panel used to edit maneuver nodes a mod or is it stock cause that looks so useful (this is the best interplanetary travel tutorial I have ever found for kerbal space program you explain everything so well)
I'm finding Moho ridiculously expensive to get to .. got a 9k total DV probe on it's way but it's so hard to get an encounter. Any tips in this tutorial? I've set to watch later anyway.
Yes, Moho needs that setting I mention, and this tutorial should work fine for Moho with some practice. 9k sounds like a lot for an encounter/flyby, but it sounds about right for Moho orbit.
This was a really great tutorial, I've learnt a lot of this from Mike aben and Matt lowne already but this was a really clear explanation of the methods and served as a great check up for me :) Would be great to see a similar easy walkthrough of Moho and some of the other harder planets? They can be a right pig. I found Moho last night but I lost connection with the probe as I was just about to do correction burn
@@_RandomPea My "Explorer's Guide to Duna" includes this method being applied to Duna specifically and how it might differ from going to other planets. I plan to do more Explorer's Guides, but I spend more of my KSP energy on streaming and r/KerbalAcademy.
They're pretty similar. Prograde makes sure the entire delta-v goes toward adding orbital energy (Work-Energy Theorem). The Manuever marker tries to also correct for burning before or after the maneuver for improved accuracy, but I just use the maneuver node for the burn start time.
Now you have the maneuver tool, which creates a maneuver node at the best time for the transfer to a planet or moon of your choice. You unlock it by upgrading the tracking center to the max level.
kerbal engineer does that. Just download the addon, then go to tracking center and click on the planet you want to travel. The mod shows angles between the kerbal and the planet u wanna travel.
Good tip. Leaving at the start of the night side should get you escaping Kerbin in the approximate right direction heading to the outer planets. Just after sunrise for Eve and Moho.
Yep, this works fine going to Eve orbit and back. Since you're going inwards, you want to leave in the direction of Kerbin's retrograde. It's similar difficulty and delta-v as Duna orbit and back.
im so fucking done with this game ive tried so fucking hard and it still wont work this game has gotta be one of the most confusing and annoying games ever made
It is pretty easy just takes time. Although I am not really one to speak as at the moment I have only been to both of Kerbin’s moons and back on console. These two destinations are the easiest to travel to
had the same mindset as you, same thoughts as you and everything. It was really simple tiny fixes that helped my rocket, for example changing 1 small thing prevented it flipping over. @@clau.mm7 It's alright. A game is supposed to be fun. I have a hard time going to Duna too (that's why I'm here) and when I start getting angry, I just make stupid planes till I'm not angry again. You can do it, it may be hard now but you'll learn it if you keep trying

I actually learned something here. Can't wait to try this tonight!
great tutorial. I havent played this game for years so I'm relearning, but this taught me things I never knew
I've been playing this game for years and learned so much from this video. Thanks!
Bro what 💀
A most excellent tutorial.
Thanks
I am a space + science nerd but kinda terrible at KSP.
Looking forward to more epic fails in KSP2!
Wow, awesome video!! I learned a TON here as someone who’s been playing quite a bit. Thank you
This is really good; well made, concise and useful.
What a great tutorial! You made it look easy!
Part of it comes with experience. I speedrun, so I've been to each planet probably 100 times.
This would be really helpful back then 😅. Had to figure it all by myself lol
highly reccomend getting kerbal alarm clock and then holding down prograde/retrograde and you get there easily
As of v1.12, Alarm Clock is included in the base game. Unfortunately the transfer windows it shows are wrong due to a bug.
Thank you so much!! Now i can transfer perfectly :)

It was added in version 1.7 (2019). It's just not very obvious to find. You can only access it after clicking a maneuver node.
Now do it on paper instead of using the in game app.
