Her look surprised me because they didn’t really focus on her in this episode so I thought she was gonna be one the girls who are just “passable” in a design challenge, but that dress was very well made. She definitely knows her references because that style of dress has been dead since 1987 so kudos to her for pulling it off.

There's no trick, it's reality TV. If there was a trick the queens knew, the producers would shut it down hard. They want to see you stumble and fail at best, or their handpicked contestants to win. The more the audience thinks they've "figured it out" the more they get bored, the more pressure is on the queens to entertain us for cheap. I'm not blaming you, just pointing out a common fallacy we make as viewers.
I really hate when the judges ask the eccentric Avant garde queens "is this all you can do" It's their brand who cares. theres queens who wear the same makeup style or silhouette and dont get clocked. Let the Creative queens be Creative

Agree that is why I like the judging of Dragula more, they let the queens do "their" own drag since drag is an art form...hate when they (RPDR) try to lead queens to do stuff that is not their esthetics...they've done that a lot over the years...

I want a full season of Drag Race design challenges!! I'm so over queens winning with rented gowns because they've got the cash. There's been so many seasons and it's all feeling so repetitive, this would help it feel fresh. Some of the most iconic moments of the entire show have come from design challenges.
I think that would be a great idea for All-Stars. Invite back all the past seamstress/fashionista queens that rocked their season's design challenges and invite them all back for Drag Race, but with a Project Runway spin! I would LOVE to have Utica back especially! Her looks were EVERYTHING!
Last season got 3 design challenges, cmiiw, that was the most design challenges a recent season has ever had since season 3 (which had...ig 4 design challenges, 2 balls, christmas one and cake one)

I think it’s the benefit of them judging things as they are. They aren’t seeing the behind the scenes, so they see Jewel’s stones and say “eugh it could’ve done without those” without knowing the whole fight to get them. They see Joella’s outfit and don’t know she struggled, and say “huh that’s minimal but cleanly done” etc. I like it for being a different take on things.

@Starstarlitlit The cape fabric looked tacked on and the edges looked a mess. The bodysuit itself was also not flattering and poorly hemmed (or just unhemmed).
