  • In line with our previous videos « The Climats of Chablis seen from the sky » and « The vineyards of Bourgogne, seen from the sky » », the Bourgogne Wine Board (BIVB) and the Union des Producteurs de Vins de Mâcon offer you a new stroll at the heart of the Mâcon terroir.
Established in 1937, this Régionale appellation is divided into three levels:
    - The first level is known as white, red or rosé Mâcon. The grapes used can come from all around the Mâconnais.
    - The second level is named Mâcon-Villages. It is reserved for white wines produced in a more restricted area than the first level.
    - The third level, Mâcon plus a geographical denomination corresponds to the highest level of the Régionale appellations. It covers white, red, and rosé wines coming from a very specific area, that will give its name to the wine. You’ll find this name on the label preceded by Mâcon (ie. Mâcon-Lugny, Mâcon-Pierreclos, Mâcon-Chardonnay…). Mâcon plus a geographical denomination can be produced from vines covering a total of 1,850 hectares, almost half of the entire area of the Mâcon AOC.
Travel to the heart of the 27 geographical denominations of the Mâcon appellation, discover the landscapes and patrimony of the Mâconnais, as well as the diversity of this appellation… here is the ambition of this new film.
Over nearly 40 km from North to South, the diversity of reliefs and landscapes is astonishing. Sometimes, regular and soothing plains, sometimes capricious and steep slopes, the great variety of terroirs allow Chardonnay and Gamay to give the best of themselves and to produce wines of extraordinary diversity.
So, don't wait any longer. Discover the Mâcon wines!
