    Kostya had a great career. He was an outstanding amateur so he went to Australia to fight important names from the begining. He fought La Porte (a guy who fought Chavez and Wilfredo Gomez) in his fourth fight just to give an example. He didn't want to lose time because he knew he was an elite fighter.

      You're correct..I saw an analysis on a boxing forum and Kostya had nearly the toughest first 20 fights than anyone...there was only 1 fighter (can't remember name) who technically fought equal or more former or current champs than Kostya in the first 15 or 20 fights.
      Kostya apparently had some bad luck in management/politics of boxing/etc...I played cards with a member of his team years ago (like 2008 or so) and he was saying how the deal with moving from HBO to Showtime and some promotional stuff really kept Kostya on the back burner during his career...he also had to nurse several injuries and couldn't commit to the huge fights on a moments notice. He told me that Mayweather's people said they would fight in a year (like 2002) and Oscar simply got the heck outta the division....not saying they really accused them of "ducking" Kostya...it's more like "If I'm going to take a huge risk, then we got to make it a mega fight"...Oscar got more money fighting Camacho than he could of made against Kostya...which sucks as that would be a great fight...especially compared to the Camacho fight.

  • @StormCentre88
    @StormCentre88 4 года назад +1

    Steele’s decision at 25:40 was correct.
    Kostya Tszyu’s hand/arm was on Jake’s head at the time he hit/dropped him.
    Therefore the knockdown was by way of a foul.
    I am a big Kostya Tszyu fan but Steele got it right.
    25:34 - Kostya Tszyu uses his right arm to throw Jake back on the ropes; a foul.
    25:36 - Kostya Tszyu place his left arm on the back of Jake’s head and then knocks him down with a short right hook; a foul.

    • @hwtilney
      @hwtilney 4 года назад

      Surprising that the commentators missed it, even in the replay.

    • @StormCentre88
      @StormCentre88 4 года назад

      @@hwtilney That’s why they're commentators and not boxers.
      Quite often some of boxing rule’s nuances - such as whether or not it is a knockdown when a fighter is punched and held/slips or vice versa - escape both, the casual boxing spectator and also commentators.
      A point that by way of both, the video itself (the commentary) and also many posts here substantiate.
      I think, since Kostya Tszyu gave such a scintillating performance (his KO of Rodriguez was really the fight that Kostya Tszyu exploded onto the global scene with), that to some extent it misdirected away from some of the infringements he authored as he actually delivered that scintillating performance.
      It is and always will be the referee’s main priority to not get overwhelmed by the action and always consider the boxer’s safety first, and a part of that axiom is to ensure that fouls are not used to beat/hurt the opponent.
      It’s a fine line to tread.
      As was made clear in this and also the Kostya Tszyu V Zab Judah fight.

    Am I out of line to say that it was easier to buy a ref in the 90s? Or were they all this bad?

    Tszu was given his chance for fame and fortune BY AUSTRALIA and betrayed it AND his family went back to Russia and now his 2 sons who ARE Australians are writing another chapter FROM Australia. Kosya should have some shame.

    The referee was not on tzyu side a disgrace
    First knocked down never counted
    Repeated head buts
    Finally second knocked.down had to count. Tzyu with a split from head buts no warning
    The third and final

    Kostya had to beat two people in the ring that night. Bad refereeing from a ref who should have known better, corruption I think.

    ggg is a larger, more technical version of kostya. but watching kostya's fights i never see him put his guard up, his hands are always down and we know he can be knocked down. he wouldnt have to eat half the shots he does if he would just put his hands up.

    Perhaps the defining fight proving how much of an idiot Richard Steele was all along.
    Like seriously???!!! Calling no knockdown when Jake CLEARLY took a knee to escape the punishment, as in WANTING the eight count. WARNING Tszyu for holding and hitting - HE DID NO SUCH THING. Like, this is a lil shit known for premature stoppages - he should've stopped this one round earlier.
    HORRIBLE ref.
