Engineer Bob is one brave engineer and so is Engineer Dave, even though he is brakeman for the day. Oh, by the way, he is still active as engineer with the San Diego Railroad Museum. Pretty amazing, isn't it?
One question I have to ask is does anyone the video: What do you want to be when you grow up? -Railroaders? That's another classic video from my childhood, or 'Train Adventures for Kids, The Magical World of Trains' Those two were great.
I was proud of Dave for giving up on his broken radio and rushing to the train in order to alert Engineer Bob that there was a car on the tracks and that his radio was broken. In my opinion, Dave should have won an award for his act of courage.
One thing I should point out, the sound that the Santa Fe 3751 makes in the Credits, is not it's sound. At the end, you can see it's whistle not blowing. Although it isn't the right sound, it kinda does suit the locomotive in some ways.
I'm a volunteer at that railroad museum out in Campo and Bob Nickles (engr. Bob) is still an active volunteer. I find it funny that while Brakeman Dave is receiving the emergency news over the radio, the emergency brake valve is right in front of him! Oh well, great video anyhow! Come ride the train in Campo!
For anyone who does not understand: the reason why it takes a mile and a half or more to stop a train is when the locomotive breaks are applied, all the wieght from the cars is forced to the front, or in simpler words the train cars push the locomotive making it difficult to stop. (correct me if i am wrong)
Interesting note - the sounds at the end are dubbed in from Southern Pacific 4449 :D I never realized that until I was older and listened to it closely!
i still have this video This is where i learned about trains was i was 3. I love the meassage at the end, kids will learn the dangers and listen. lets see Dora the explorer or go Diego Go top that (LOL!)
LOL isn't there some FRA mandate for an emergency brake valve on every passenger car? And the camera's at full zoom, but the train isn't actually moving. And from what I know from my museum train experiences is that it's probably rolling no more than 30. I'd think a 3-car trainset would stop within 600 feet.
@ltlman692 There obviously was a dangerous situation that could've been deadly; A jeep grand cherokee stalled on a railroad crossing, so in this case Dave saved the train, A COOL HERO!
@mellowNdark You ever hear of something called "balancing?" I only watch those shows when I have time. Most of the time, I'm either taking classes at school or I'm working at my job. I'm not the one who now has to turn to someone's videos just so you can comment back. Futhermore, why would you watch this video you comment on? This video is for kids, remember?
you can tell the train wasnt moving when he was climbing on the middle car. his cloths would of been blowing everywhers and the camera would not be that close. great movie though!
I remember watching this every weekend as a kid. But one question, isn't there suppose to be a scene between engineer Bob thanking Dave and Dave closing the show? I remember Dave was talking to those two people after the train left.
I've had this DVD since I was little. And I still have it and love it!
I love this movie, I used to always watch it!!!! Thanks for sharing!
Oh great thanks a lot. Just been in love with that horn ever since I first watched at age 8.
This was always a great way to learn about trains. Sure it's got some cheesy 90's-ness to it, but that's why we all love it. Especially myself.
Engineer Bob also works at a freight yard in San Ysidro, CA and takes mixed freight trains into Mexico.

Gotta love the sound of the whistle or the horn.
Do tell! Never knew that. Heck, I now know what horn I'd like to restore and greatly thank you for your help.
Thank you so much for putting this up
I haven't seen it in years
Those chugging and whistle sounds are from Southern Pacific 4449! Pretty cool huh?

Congradulations Dave, I actually believed there was a Jeep stalled on the tracks as a kid XD
Oh by the way, if you want to know who Engineer Bob's last name is. Engineer Bob's last name is Nickles and you can find him on their website sdrm.org
Whenever I see Dave go to the train, I think "I have LOTS of faith in you, Dave. Please, DON'T give up!"
I love the sound of that whistle at 0:15

Locomotive450 Is 2104 still active there?
2104 has one of the best RS5T horns ever.
@SteamTeamRedubUK Yes, but the talking to the people scene is on the tape version.

awww the memories. I always thought the train was moving when they filmed this
Engineer Dave Hood to the rescue!
Dave Hood is a real hero!
haha they filmed the climbing scene while the train was stationary.
Forget The Radio!!! STOP THE TRAIN! Because there's a car on the train tracks.
Hey Engineer Bob fans, Engineer Bob also appears in "Train Songs For Kids".
Interesting note - the sounds at the end are dubbed in from Southern Pacific 4449 :D I never realized that until I was older and listened to it closely!
(Dave Hood: "STOP THE TRAIN!") 1:38
there goes a spaceship is awesome,. pleasee put that up! :D
Radio, you had one job. ONE JOB!
Hmm, I wonder why The Car got ended up on the tracks.
(Engineer Dave Hood is in such a hurry to stop the train due to a car on the tracks) 0:02
Trains take over a mile to stop they don't stop just like that.
@YankeePat94 Would you happen to know what horn is on that locomotive; 2104?
2104 has a nice RS5T, lol

The woman that’s in the car is that Becky?
that would be awesome!
(Dave Hood's feet nearly slide off the steps of the next coach of the train) 0:36
pleaseee put up there goes a truck .. and spaceship! my favorites!!
@ltlman692 There obviously was a dangerous situation that could've been deadly; A jeep grand cherokee stalled on a railroad crossing, so in this case Dave saved the train, A COOL HERO!
(Engineer Dave Hood: "YOUR RADIO'S NOT WORKING!") 1:58
@wileyk209zback Actually, it's the Pacific Southwest (San Diego) Railway Museum.
1:54, Dave, what are you doing here, you suppose to be back of the train.
I remember this scene... I'd never do that in real life!
XD
why did when Engineer Dave was climbing on the top train remind of Unstoppable'?
@trainmaster844 i noticed it too. i wonder why they dubbed southern pacific 4449 with an atsf 3751? who knows.....
My favorite part of this video was always the railroad crossing scene at 3:20
2104 has an RS5T horn.
was this video made before Santa Fe merged with Burlington Northern?

what kind of engine is that? shes got an awsome horn on her
Were those Erie Lackawanna coaches? They sure look like they are.
USAF 2104 is an alco MRS1 and the SDRM still uses her today.
You have to put up There Goes a Motorcycle
you can tell the train wasnt moving when he was climbing on the middle car. his cloths would of been blowing everywhers and the camera would not be that close. great movie though!
I wonder what that beautiful woman who's car was on the tracks has been up to since then. How long was she on the set of There Goes a Train?
what kind of horn is that prerecorded horn throughout the video at 0:57
What's Jim's last name the railroad inspector.
Anytime, buddy. ;)
Shows you how they practice emergency situations. I call them "Railroad Emergency Drills".
That's a good name for them. I'd abbreviate it to RED.
exactly
Combat Productions That whistle at the end sounds like Southern Pacific #4449!
Erich Diebold I think it is 4449.
What do you call that diesel train horn whistle from 3:12 to 3:34?
It would have been hilarious to have been on the train and seen him running through the car at 0:02
What kind of train is the one at the end that they take a ride on?
I remember watching this every weekend as a kid. But one question, isn't there suppose to be a scene between engineer Bob thanking Dave and Dave closing the show? I remember Dave was talking to those two people after the train left.
The San Diego Railroad Museum must have never heard of emergence breaks, all he had to do was dump the air in the back of the train.
@1f5sda Oh I didn't know the There Goes A series was also on dvd.
I will one day visit the sdrm and hopefully get a photo of 2104 I hope
@SteamTeamRedubUK It is also on DVD.
At 3:23, Engineer Bob has to know that the horn code for the railroad crossing is 2 long, 1 short and 1 long blasts.
FORGET THE RADIO! STOP THE TRAIN!
Can you please do Here Comes A Roller Coaster?
The train horn at the end wasn't 3751's??!! It was the Daylight's!!
It's SP 4449.
Believe it or not, I'm email friends with Engineer Bob!
Forget The Radio!!! STOP THE TRAIN!!!!
wheres there goes a spaceship?
Dave may not be a conductor, but after that heroic effort, they should hire him to be a train conductor
I don't understand how cars are always ending up on the train tracks.
I agree.
It's a Leslie RS5T.
did any one else notice when he was climbing the train or jumping the gap between the lead passenger car and loco it was not moving?
Remember Kids, Don't Play on Train Tracks because if you do, You can get arrested by The Railroad Police.
Exactly!
Coulda warned me before I got hit by that big santa fe. . . X_X
@wileyk209zback I meant how they often stall or break down there for some odd reason instead of a more likely place.
@SuperOzzyman put up there goes a spaceship and the rest of those videos
