I agree that Schell's Hans Reinhardt was one of the best big-screen villains of all time. And it was nice to see Tony Perkins playing a good guy for a change!

Have this many times over the years--but most recently--here on youtube. Always wondered why the Palomino looked so spartan given that it was technologically 20 years ahead of the Cygnus--and I figured it was because the majority of the budget was put into the Cygnus model and interiors--but as I watched it again here recently--a thought crossed my mind. The Cygnus--being big and huge--represents a computer from the 60/70's--when they used to take up whole rooms--whereas the Palomino--represents a smartphone--where all that tech is now condensed into the size of a wallet.

@0:42 -- Long ago -- about 18 years ago(!) --, I had heard they HID the wreckage of the USS Cygnus within the lava fields of the planet Mustafar in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. I have NOT been able to confirm this or even locate the website that hosted that comment.
Looking at just this image, it's very easy to see how they could have hid the ship in RoTS or this may have just helped inspire the look of Mustafar.
After all, even in Star Wars they have homaged other science fiction films. They hid an EVA Pod from 2001: A Space Odyssey in Watto's junkyard in The Phantom Menace! Also, R2-D2 was recreated in CGI and appears very briefly in the starship debris field in Star Trek (2009). I haven't seen R2 for myself in the movie...

I guess it's not unusual to see Tom Jones in the Matte Painting department at the 1:42 mark?

this movie is so over looked, a psychic connection to a robot ? turning humans into robots.. the probe? amazing.
