    You know, the houses of Sunset Valley had some questionable style choices, but I appreciate the effort put into them. You can tell the builders knew how to use the build tools to make something creative, but I feel the early The Sims 4 builders just didn't. All Sims 4 homes are so dark and way too big lol

    • @Rekowcski
      @Rekowcski  2 года назад +39

      Yes, as I have progressed through the series I’ve noticed that I actually like the actual SHELL of the house usually. Aesthetic is a personal preference a lot of the time so I feel it’s the most fun to critique. Don’t worry, I plan on switching gears to the sims 2 and 4 base games shortly.... ts4 it’s going to get DESTROYED! Haha

    The reason why the Hart‘s family house is so weird and randomly decorated is because their Bio hints that the parents are a bit insane and childish 😅 In general, I really enjoy the ugly houses because they are unique and fit the sims‘ personality :) In the the sims 4 the houses are super boring because everything kind of looks the same..

    • @Rekowcski
      @Rekowcski  2 года назад +20

      I mention it a couple times throughout the series... but my favourite thing is “fun ugly”, because it at least makes something unique and whimsical... so I know exactly what you mean

    The color scheme of the Bunch family house kinda makes sense because its based on that show Brady Bunch. And in the 70's, as far as i belive, they used to have those bright colors that didn't really match

    The Altos bathroom is not yellow, but gold, ya know, flaunting their wealth?
    I decided to save my comment for SV, after I watched both videos. I started watching this out of order, and I have read some of the other comments, and for some of the homes, I am on board with what some of them have been saying, that when you move into a house, you do not get to choose the color scheme (unless the house was built new), and realistically, you have to work with the questionable color choices of the former tenants or original owners. Hence, a lot of awkward color extremes mixed, and a lot of greens and yellows. Since this was supposed to be set 50 years prior to the Sims 2, and Sims 2 was the early 2000's, this would have been set in the 1950's (although it still looks more modern for that time). With that said, I was born in 1988, and have moved around so many times. The house I grew up in was built in the 1960's and it had green bathrooms, and since my mother loved green, we had green furniture, with yellow walls in our living room. My bedroom was painted pink (I hate pink, but love purple), my parents' bedroom was this abysmal grey, and they had this hideous rust colored comforter set. We had (at the start), an offwhite fridge, then a piss colored fridge, and finally a stainless steal colored fridge. Our stove was spiced brown, and we had pea green textured linoleum. Our dishwasher was a dingy offwhite, and our cabinets were like burnt orange wood. Our dining room was gothic long back iron framed chairs with red cushioning (at first glance, they looked nice, but were so uncomfortable). The table was not gothic, but a medium brown wood, with black and silver accents (it had a center piece which could be added to elongate). My sister's bedroom was painted blue (in hopes of a boy), but when my mom found out that she was having a girl, she painted the room piss yellow. All our bedroom furniture was yard sale, thrift shop, or bargain basement mismatches. We also had a basement, where my dad built a bar, and we had a pool table, and green foam chairs and couches (not lying). Also, in the basement was our washer and dryer (normal white) and a long table, with computers (all but my mom, were gamers). After my brother was born, my sister moved into my room and it was painted a green that was not offensive (but is my sister's favorite), and we later half paneled with a ligh purple shade (the colors surprisingly looked good together). My brother's room was painted blue (his favorite color when he was younger was yellow), but now it is red.
    In houses, I rarely see white toilets/sinks in bathrooms (with the exception of where I am living now), most of them are greens, yellows or pinks or blues. Apartments normally have whites or off-whites.
    The odd aspects of where I live now (it is a two story duplex), the light switches are really low in the kitchen, dining room and bathroom, there is a huge window on the side of our tub (had to place a black double curtain for privacy), there are no closets to hang clothing, and very few cabinets in our kitchen. Since we are only renting, we had to go overboard with extra lightweight dressers (since our bedrooms are all on the second floor). But the worst part is, we only have one tiny bathroom on the first floor. The dining room and living room are so big that they could be 4 bedrooms 😂. And to tell you the truth, this is not the worst interior decorated place I have lived, but just not sensible.
    Now, back to SV, I think the devs tried to choose colors that reminded them of homes they grew up in (that is why the outsides do not match the insides), to give the design choices a more realistic view. Sadly, the US from the 1950's to the 1990's (and those like my parents, longer), chose poorly when it came to interior design (exterior design for my family was awful too, we went from vomit green, to sun bright yellow). I did have a very big vegetable garden, and I did love our landscaping (I used to love yardwork). I do not think you should knock off points for something that is easily changed with a color wheel, wish we could use that in the real world, lol.
    As for my favorite builds, I love the Wolff beachhouse, it screams misogynistic prick (just what the hubby seems to be), and since Morgana is too good for him (he will cheat), I have them divorce, he can keep the house, but she takes the money (Haha), and I build her a nice cozy cottage, then have her meet someone new (oftentimes, she marries one of my sims, Leighton Sekemeto or Christopher Steel), and she gets to fulfill her lifetime wish❣I also love the McDermit's farmhouse. They are interesting to play, and love how they play into the Lore with Don Lothario. Of course, I do like how they turned a grainery into a makeshift house, that is fitting for the upended Pleasantview Cassanova. While I do like the Goth mansion (you did not even realize it is in a bit of despair), not quite finished in areas, due to a fire, hence those dead trees, and unfinished paint and enclosures (a nice extra touch that ties into the Lore). While I do like the concept of the loft hoysing for the working friends and roommates, they both have so many routing issues, that both need to be redesigned (too bad it is not the Sims 2, for we could make proper Apartment housing, because 4 could reside in the same apartment complex). Quite honestly, with having full access to the color wheel and pattern tool, most Sims 3 builds, can be properly fit to any player's aesthetic pleasing).
    Out of them all, I think I love the Broke family's trailer park most of all. But perhaps that is my bias more towards the Lore❣🙃

    Even if I think some of these houses are ugly as hell, I love the fact that they reflect a lot of the personality and lore of the families themselves. Look at any sims 4 house and you will notice that there's no hints of lore or personality. Almost like they just plopped the families into the game after they were done.
