people give you crap for writing the tire off without messing with the pressure or setup, but honestly I had the same experience. Was running Q3+ in A-group with great wear pattern and got 4+ days out of them. The Q5S rear on the same bike, same rider, same track, was DESTROYED after 1.5 days, throwing chunks with the exact same weird tear pattern. And another rider in the same group with a similar bike and a Q5 had the same issue, too. I tried different pressures from the (weirdly high) recommendation down to 29 hot. There's nothin unusual about my riding style or suspension setup. And either way, the tires are advertised to be less sensitive to these problems, not more. My Q3+ never showed any signs of tearing anywhere between 28 and 33psi hot, or with different suspension settings.
yes this is pretty much what I saw with the q5s after 3,3+,4 didn't do this on the same exact bike, setup, tire pressures, and track. Currently on Pirelli diablo supercorsa TD sc3 (that's a long name for a tire) and no issues, if I get about the same life out of them as i did q3's I'll stick with Pirelli as they also cost me a little less
Question, has your suspension been setup. More importantly. Has your suspension been setup for that particular track. There's more that goes into tire wear than just setting cold tire pressures.
I think that’s a fair question. Compression damping could be too high maybe? I’ve never run Dunlops but I agree different tires might require different suspension setup
It's suspension set up The Q4 will last maybe 2 or 3 at a squeeze at the track. In A group maybe 2 The Q3+ is the best tire for road or track best tire ever love them 😂
No matter what tire you run there is no such thing as set and forget it. There is no such thing as "ideal cold tire pressures". Every time you go on the track the temperature conditions are changing. "Recommended" pressures are nothing but a starting point and the rider must adjust to hot pressures as their final psi. You need to take before and after session pressures so you can track what psi the tire actually likes. You watched the cold tearing in the third session but do not appear to adjust your pressures. Why? You should have dropped 1/2-1 psi until the cold tearing stopped. Then record your HOT pressures. That is your target for the next track day. "Recommend pressures" are only meant to get you in the ballpark. It's up to you to dial it in from there.
i had the same tire wear on my brand new Q5 rear! i started with 32psi cold, then checked the pressure right after a session and it was 36psi. then dropped the air pressure a few pounds. later, i softened the compression, then slowed the rebound, one at a time, in hopes of helping, but still had the same "cold tear" wear pattern. disappointing, but i read that the tire will be fine. crossing my fingers.
I tried anything from 28 to 33 hot and got the same result with the Q5S. There's something wrong with these tires. The Q3+ on the same bike never showed any hint of these issues
@@dirkmohrmann8960 exactly! q3, q3+, q4 same bike, rider, track, set up, pressures ( dunlop Rear 30-32psi cold 34-36psi off warmers) no issues, q5s I get what Tyson Moto shows. it's the tire. But I had no issues using the tire it worked fine it's whole life
Looks like suspension incorrectly setup for the rider or tire pressure incorrect. Did you set the 30psi cold pressure first thing in the morning and just leave it all day? I ran the Q4's religiously and never had any issues that i couldn't tune out with a click here or drop a psi there. I find it hard to believe that the Q5 is just a bad tire without seeing anything at all regarding your setup aside from 30psi cold at the start of the day.
I ran multiple sets of q4 tires with this same suspension setup and didn’t have any sort of wear like this. The Q5 and Q5s are a much softer compound that tears much easier.
Whatever you do don't run it at a different pressure and see if that helps. My guess is if you started at 33 or 34 cold it might not have got hot enough to cause that problem. I've never had an issue with her Q4 haven't got a chance to try the q5's yet
Give continental a look. They run a different profile, I ended up dropping the front 5 mill and adding 2 clicks of preload on the rear to deal with some headshake at around 130, but, after some adjustment, gooden.

totaly looks like suspension out of tune

Ok so you hate the q5, but could you tell me was there q5 predictable, gripped well, feel etc?
I'm seeing the same on q5s here in MN on my 400. They tear and scoop/ scallop the same way you're seeing.

I saw the same thing on my Q4s. Very odd pattern on the sidewall. Thanks for the test data!

That looks like tire pressure wear. Is the 35 psi hot pressure recommendation for street ride or track? Seems way to high but I am no expert.
That is the recommendation from the local Dunlop tire rep.

The pressure I ran is based on Dunlop's recommendation, both from their website and the local Dunlop Rep.
33.5 FR-31,5 REAR - OR JUST GO METZELER-IMHO
