What's in my backpack?

- Hi! I'm in my garage talking about the stuff in my backpack. I'm inside because I didn't want to awkwardly film in front of neighbors.
I'm not an expert on hiking. Just a girl who loves to be outside! I've done some stupid things out on the trails over the years and have learned my lessons from it! Everything from losing my direction, heading out too late, and not having the right gear. It can quickly turn to panic when you can't see your hand in front of your face, all the trees begin to look the same, or a trail marker is missing. Having the right supplies provides a sense of comfort in a not so comfortable situation.
It's never silly to pack your bag full of safety gear, even on the shortest trail trip. I know I'm going to get an eye roll here, and maybe you're thinking, but Pat, it's ONLY a dayhike. But, from personal experience, misadventures can happen at a moments notice. A northern trail is thick bush, slippery with steep rock cliffs, swift flowing rivers, weather can change on a dime, cell phone reception is hit and miss.
In this case, the trail description was way off. It was posted as a moderate trail when, in fact, it was a difficult class trail. It took an extra hour to finish. At the end of it all, we were tired, and it was getting late. My daughter struggled to finish the last km. On our way out, others were just heading in without supplies. They stopped to talk to us, mentioning that the trail was a bit too difficult for them. I suppose that is what inspired me to make this video today. In short, a prepared backpack can save a life!
Most items I have mentioned are from Walmart, Amazon, Sail, and MEC.
I know this isn't an extensive list of items. In this scenario, I had family members carrying food, pet items, and extras for the kiddo. If I were to head out solo, I would be sure to have additional items, especially in the north country. My most favorite place to be.
