I owned a 2022 Nightster which has basically the same engine. I had many of the same problems (check engine codes, defective handlebar, bad front ABS brake, no start issues and a defective fuel pump. After many trips to my Dealership, Harley Davidson and said. Dealership bought my bike back (Lemon Law) and sold me a new bike at cost. I loved my Nightster but after it left me stranded on the interstate with an imploded fuel pump I knew that it was nice to get rid of it. I got a 2023 Street Bob-an old school with little electronics on it. I hope you can a similar relief that I got.
They should have called it the Sportster POS. I'm at 4225 miles and have had an engine rebuild due to a loose timing chain tensioner, fuel pump went out, battery kept draining and my front tire was done. Harley corporate has been great and has fixed the countless issues, but the local dealership has cashed in for every penny they could on this bike. It's been a terrible experience. I was honored to be able to finally afford an overpriced Harley and feel like the joke is on me. I miss my R6.
Man I feel you I was on the way home last year from CA Beach and my whole engine said bye bye I wash able to get it home then harley took it and it took them 6 months to fix it
As a 2022 Sportster S owner, I feel your pain. I've done zero engine or electronic mods to my bike. Before the Jan 24th update, I couldn't start my bike if the temp was below 60 degrees F. The bike would throw check engine lights and error codes that the dealership could only clear. The Jan 24th update fixed my cold start issue. The only issue I have left is the poor signal strength of the Bluetooth in the instrument cluster. If I lean back on the seat and turn my head, my headphones lose signal. Have tried both the Sena 50S and Kardo Spirit HDs headsets. I agree with you that the motor is sound. I think the "tech" is the problem. Harley needs to fix this.
Fishinwill - YOU JUST NEED MORE, MAN !! You have to demand your fair share of electronic crap !! Get SOME MORE ELECTROTRASH on that sick f**kin' thing !! I mean, are you gonna be the one with the LEAST.... STUFF, or whatever all those gizmos are that blink and flash etc ??
I was having that issue until recently. Just took it to the dealer a couple weeks ago and they flashed a bunch of software updates that cleared up all the issues.
Thanks for the review. Stopped by the Harley dealership today to see a couple of different models and this one kind of stood out to me. I would like to replace it with my 22 Honda rebel 1100. After watching your review, I think I’m going to keep my Honda rebel 1100. It is a daily driver And it has had no problems for 8000 miles. It is a manual transmission. thanks again.
Donfausik - A MANUAL TRANSMISSION ?? MAN ! I WOULDN'T TOLERATE THAT !! I'd go to the HD shop and buy me an automatic '18 SPEED Sportster Srtuv !! You' re misson' out !! Those Harley guys got all kinds of 'Auto- tronics' on their 'lectro bikes ' !! The other guys are gettin' ahead of ya ! You know whoever dies with the most lectronics wins !!!!!
I just picked up a 2023 two weeks ago. Got almost 500 miles on it. So far no issues except for today i ran diagnostics after the screen did something wonky for a brief moment. Im now getting some type of code reading on the first line of diagnostics, but when selected it says ‘no issues’. Other than that, the bike is a lot of fun to ride and im happy
Warthog - Just stand by... there's more on the way !!! But don't worry.. at least it'll tell ya when it's time to take a crap !! And lights will come on, and flash, and blink, and everything !!! You're gonna love it !!
I'm selling mine due being at the dealership 4 times already. Check engine light is what closed the deal. Harley should have never released this bike until all the bugs have been resolved. I will stay with air cooled bikes.
Countless such issues with mine too. All software related (with the exception of a couple of initial assembly “oversights” from the factory). Genuinely my favorite Harley and I absolutely loved it but had to trade it in because it stranded me several times.
Luckily I’ve never been stranded but I’ve also never taken it far because of the light. I’m afraid it’s going to get me stranded lol I usually use her around town and to get to work. Sorry about your loss my friend.
I have one too and I’m starting to see some assembly “oversights” too and it’s honestly unacceptable. The Harley reputation is the opposite of what this bike is. Overpriced for no reason
OMG... I should have done my research before buying my 2023 Sportster S. It only has 800 miles and it died while riding. The check engine light went up. It did not start again so I wait for 5 minutes and re-started the engine. It ran for 5 miles and died again but this time it did NOT start. I had to tow it to the dealership. I have never been stranded by my Honda CBR. I have already spent over $1,000 by changing the forward controls to mid-controls, etc. Waste of my money. I am very unhappy with this Sportster S product. This is the 3rd time in the dealership in 2 months. I am DONE!
I've been debating on trading my 2021 CB1000R Black Edition for a 2023 Sportster S. This video and comments definitely have me questioning that now with how much I ride. The bike looks fantastic but I would hate to keep it in the shop.
@@ChrisKrewz Look online for the Harley RH1250 code sheet and check what code you're getting with the light. Quick question, what kind of fuel are you putting in it? Regular or premium?
Yea mine goes in a improper start mode literally every time! And I have to just restart it. I’m glad you are talking about this! Harley Davison of Savannah told me they know about the start issue with the revolution max and pretty much said it’s not a lemon even though it kind of is and tuff luck 😅😢 and also I stay with the engine code thrown because of my after market lights
My infotainment went black couple days ago with only 500 miles, also the diagnostic tool gave me a lot of trouble codes. They cleared after couple On/Off cycles but it scared the hell out of me. I recently trade my brand new R7 because I wanted some nice powerful cruiser and seeing all those trouble codes on a brand new bike, almost made me regret the decision of trading in my Yamaha.
Your aftermarket led license plate could be the issue. I have a triumph that I changed out the taillight and it threw a check engine light and disabled my cruise control. Bike runs fine, just has the light and no cruise. ECMs are touchy. Even though the tail light and license plate light are two separate things, they may be fed from the same fuse and monitored by the ECM as one complete unit for various reasons. That led may be throwing off the voltage/resistance, which is what the ECM uses for information. Maybe try going back to OEM and see if the problem goes away
That’s what I thought, but how can you explain me having the same code since the first 5 miles straight out of the dealership? No mods absolutely stock.
@@ChrisKrewz that one I can't explain. I had the same issue and it was the license plate/taillight mod and it's an easy fix so I thought I'd share. But if it's been that way since off the lot, then that's obviously not it.
Indian Scout Bobber owner here. New cruisers seem to give a lot of engine check light for the slightest warning or info. On my Indian, it displays the actual error code and you can look it up on the manual or google to diagnose yourself. Maybe Harley should do the same. And most of the time, my Indian's check lights are a dirty sensor, or the kickstand not properly retracted, never an actual engine issue. Maybe there's a way to get your error codes from the bike without having to go to the dealer. Overall extremely happy with the Scout Bobber and it's a serious competitor to the Sportster.. Just saying.
I totally understand you the problem is it’s a new product I shouldn’t have to try to fix a problem on my owe dime if companies make millions. On the bike’s defense it’s an awesome machine. it just bothers me seeing the light knowing it can possibly break down:/ it may be something silly but I don’t think a life is worth the gamble. I want a scout bobber awesome bike good choice 👍🏼.
@@MultiBoxer26I have an 2023 Indian Scout bobber. Not complaints other than the stock seat which I upgraded to the comfort seat. She’s a very smooth and powerful bike. You won’t regret it
I’m sorry to hear of these issues. I saw this bike today at a dealer. It’s $23k before tax here. I had a 2013 dyna wide glide I only put about 900 miles on because of a big issue that was a catastrophic problem. I had to pay for it. Then sold the bike. Moved onto naked bikes and love them. Today I thought maybe I should try a new version harley. After seeing this I think I’ll wait. My modded yamaha mt09 is fun, WAY cheaper, modded and 0 issues. I think these bikes are cool design and great idea. Shouldnt have these issues for this cost though
I have a mt09 I ride that bike way more with no problems amazing bike. I’m not trying to slander the bike but just give information. I think if I had this information, I could’ve made an educated decision on my investment.
$23/24ish is what I walked out of the dealership with for my ‘23 brother. Idk what they’re doing with that one but I doubt it’s worth it. Especially with the hidden Harley Taxes. (Mine was priced $17)
Bought mine Feb/22. Been back to the dealership 2 times with no start issues then leak on cooling system. Very disappointed with the bike in general, would absolutely return it if I could. Last time at the dealership they did a whole bunch of software upgrades and since then bike's been "working ok". Check engine light goes on almost everyday due to God knows why.
I bought one, LOVE IT, sorry you've had problems, I've had zero problems, yeah, you gotta do some modifications, when I'm done I'll spend over $6000 or more on mods, it's just money, i've modified every bike I've ever owned, I've had around 25 bikes or so, lost count after 52 years of riding. I enjoy doing mods, making the bike my own, unique, riding it stock off the showroom floor seems boring. Thanks for the video, good job. Peace.
Thanks for the info on the Sportster S. I picked up the Mineral Green Metallic HD Sportster S 2022. No issues! Plus I know exactly where you were riding your bike! I lived off Bartee Ave off Osborne. Pacomia! P13 homes! hahaha. Be safe and God bless brother.
Nice 👍🏼 lucky you I just have check engines bike runs fine I think lol 😆 🤫 don’t tell anyone lol idc well let’s go ride then let’s do a head to head with the bikes
I was in the market for one, glad I ran to this channel cuz if I'm buying the sportsters for it's looks....well looks could be deceiving sometimes, but I'm eyeing for a used Fat Bob and also considering the Fat Boy or the Breakout.
Crazy the problems this bike has caused some people and the one I bought is no different. To the dealer 5 times before it even hit 400 miles. They supposedly found a loose fuel line which caused the bike to die on my while I was riding it!! And all the other times were just random engine lights coming on every time I rode it. They also found a cross threaded bolt from the factory. Just disappointing man.
I just don’t understand why people aren’t talking about it more. And then get mad at me when I post something like this? It just kinda sucks to have a defective product.
Saw your video in the Facebook group. I put a antigravity battery 480 CCA. Only had 2 codes since install and that was due to it being 40 degrees Fahrenheit out. I think the voltage drop on start leads to codes being thrown
@@ChrisKrewz correct, I live in NYS, it’s been 40-60 when I ride. With the stock battery, with a fully charged battery it still struggles to start. Then it would give me codes. Low voltage for both injectors one time. After the Antigravity 480 CCA Lithium install, it starts better, and no codes, no check engine. Maybe it’s a coincidence.
damnit that sucks to hear, sorry bro. Ive been obsessed with this bike and genuinely wanna get one this year. Im hearing this story told alot from a bunch of different owners though
I’m really not trying to paint the wrong picture but I just wish I knew I would of waited a bit for the new models to come out. That’s why I got the 22 and not the 21 I thought maybe less bugs lol
@Chris Krewz I have the 21 and withing 6-7 months I had to have the motor replaced because everything internal just went crappy. To be honest I think it's an over priced bike I should of taken the 8200 I put down and got a sport bike plus parts are way cheaper too
I feel you man, I have the same issue and I haven’t done anything mod wise or exhaust mods not only the check engine light goes off but also the tire and the traction control goes off as well I brought it to the dealership and stays there for more than a month but nothing was fix in regards with the check engine it so frustrating you know mileage is not even 2k it’s just 1090k and just like you I also stop riding the bike and I’m even planing to sell it and switch to triumph rocket r3
Mine will throw an engine light if I don't ride it for two weeks or so, but riding it for a couple hours clears it up. Seems to be fuel related. Also you can clear the engine light from the diag screen.
Just ignore them as long as it runs fine. Or check with your dealer for 2022 october firmware which i believe is the latest that clears all error. Run load equaliser for your custom taillight as well.
Hey guys , I have the same bike , same colour , same mods , same light and code for the tail light , how do you fix this !!! , also . How did you go about mounting the head shield on your tbr , I want to do the same , thanks
I was really interested in one of these, but for the price they are you just don't get enough bike IMO. They look cool and on paper have awesome specs but the bad reviews have been outweighing the good ones.
I recently had a new exhaust system added to my Harley and the check engine light would come on afterward especially while accelerating. It was the O2 sensors which I replaced and now it’s good. I hope this helps
I had mine ('21) serviced at Glendale HD once for no-start issue @5000 miles. Starter solenoid was replaced as well as installing a new battery under warranty. Also, the valve cover gasket was leaked small amount of oil. That was already taken care of under warranty. I daily-ride this bike for the past 12 months, almost 10K miles (currently on the second front tire). Time will tell but, man, I fcuking love this bike.
Yeah…i just ignore that freaking buggy instrument cliuster…as long as i see gas in the tank im good…I love the style, performance etc….have owned plenty of bikes, but I have never had so many people stop me and comment on the style
I have 2016 Sportster Roadster (No ABS, No nothing) with custom cafe fairings. A good amount of miles on it, so far I have zero problem. The only thing I experienced was speedometer fogged up because it had some rain leaked into it...took the cover off to dry it out and no prob ever since. (also, my grip is wearing off because of use...will change the grip to custom one soon for about $100). HD can make reliable bike, they just need to put some effort into it.
Looksjj - You're right, they could build a reliable bike... but then you wouldn't be in their house all the time, looking at that 'great big "elephant" bike they want to sell you ! You know, with the suitcases and trunks, and fairing big enough for a car. And just imagine the gizmos, and gadgets and stereo' s and toilet... wait ! Do they have a toilet on them ? Aw hell, must have. They got everthang else ! And 'most' of all they got the most important thing of all... THE HIGHEST PRICE !!!! ( You coulda bought a freakin' house for what that 'garbage wagon' will cost ya !! But don't worry... Biden's gonna take it the f**k away from you very soon anyway !!! So, no harm, no foul. No foul. No Foul ?? DID YOU JUST SAY " NO FOUL" ?? TAKIN' YOUR BIKE AWAY, IS " NO FOUL" ?? ARE YOU KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW ??? Oh, wait ! That's another thing... or is it ? EVERYBODY IS SCREWING US... LOCK N' LOAD..........
I feel your pain. My Lowrider S runs like a champ but i did have some check engine lights come up from my battery being low at the time. I love my bike though and hopefully you got the issue figured out
Yeah I know if you add a pipe you might get a code if you don’t tune it but I’ve had the same code even before the pipe unfortunately. I think it’s and error the bike runs fine idk
I wanted a used one, read plenty of articles, found your video read the comments, and yeah Im going to look for something else, I wanted this as my first harley.
I had my first warranty job 6 days after i bought mine, 153 miles. No start. Harley refused to let the dealership work on it for 2 weeks. They ended up changing the battery. 6 days and 36 miles later, it was back at the dealer for the same issue. 2.5 months later, they fix it. 2 weeks and 200 miles later, it drops a valve and grenades the engine. I have 500 miles on the new engine and can't wait to get rid of it. Bought it 12 months ago.
I sat on one the other day at my dealer, my 2023 FXST has 600 miles an I was at my dealer to make an appointment for the 5th time for warranty work. It is strange that the so-called sportster has forward controls. it should have rear mounted controls or mid. I believe the hostile work environment because of the pandemic is the reason for problems on anything built in 2020-2023. I have been looking at getting a 2024 BMW R 18 or the new R 12 Cruiser. Thanks for sharing... just keep hammering the warranty until the bug are sorted out. lucky I have a 2018 Zed 900 Kawasaki that is perfect so I still ride while the Harley gets straightened out
I have a 23 S as well the dealer has picked it up 2x since I brought it home. I have not put 1 single mile on it yet. The check engine light comes on it high idles excessively at start, it sounds very mechanical like something with the timing chain is off, to stop the high idle I pull in the clutch and it goes away for a while. I’m so deflated pertaining to this bike I’m looking to swap the bike for something else. It only has 000.7 miles and that was the dealers mileage. 😢
That’s crazy not even leaving the dealership having problems wow. I was fortunate to buy my bike right when they were closing the moment I left seconds later I got a check engine light. How funny.
They usually Say Never by the first year of a certain vehicle or bike and you can always tell Harley never does enough product testing before they put something out . They definitely need better quality control
Does the small tank and 1.5 inches of rear travel effect your ownership. Thanks for the review. I've had numerous Harleys but they were and are big twins. No issues so far.
For me not so much I’m 180 on a good day lol I do feel the bumps and yes you definitely feel like you’re filling up often unfortunately it does the job for me I don’t mind it.
YES. I have to ask to pull over for gas before anyone else in the group, but my back is killing me by then anyway so I'm happy to stop for gas every hour.
I know this is an older post already but - i had the same exact issue with my car. and it was the O2 sensor being faulty. I wonder if your bike had the same. Since it was running just fine but displaying an error. It's usually electronic devices and sensors causing this.
It could be the problem the dealer can’t figure out what the problem is. I’m not the expert I wouldn’t know how to fix it besides changing it. It’s unfortunate
Took a 23 FTR on a test ride a few days ago. I already had financing secured and insurance binder for it. Drove it 5 miles and it was lurching as I was taking off from a stop. Then the check engine light came on. I took it back and said never mind. This was after a stop sale was issued on a Kawasaki z900rs 5 minutes before I was going to pick it up. I decided to just give up for this season. I’m going to find an older used bike next year. Frustrated right now would be an understatement.
Seems like quite a devided community, either its worse case or no issues at all. I'm luckily in the latter group. Owning my sportster s since Nov 2023 and 5000km, no issues. 2023 might have brought major revisions from factory to adress all the gremlins?
Man... I hope the 2024+ models have these sorted out... Was interested in getting one. Ive heard it got fixed but im still not sure. Yours sure looks good with those aesthetic mods!
My 2021 Sportster S always gets a check engine light. I got it new. Every 200 miles, check engine light comes on. I’m very disappointed and am looking to get an MT 09.
The thing about Harley is they are designed to be modified, This guy didn't mod it to his needs, if I was him I'd get a seat cushion, handlebar risers, and a fairing with a windshield. And all that would run me about $250
when is the engine light start coming up? new owner here and just done 300 miles with no issues. But after reading some comment and this video got me a little worry.
I just test road a 2023, the Torque & Thrust in Sport mode is AMAZING, however, I’ll wait till the 2024/2025 models to even consider getting one. Hopefully, by then the Gremlins will be sorted ,??🤷🏻♂️
I have a 2010 model Dyna Streetbob that I put a ventilator air filter on along with the USA rear header ( I live in England and we have the butterfly valve rear header) and because I disconnected the air filter sensor and exhaust valve actuator, the ECU played up - it didn't show the check engine light but just refused to let me start the bike. I go around it with little 'sensor by-pass' gadgets and it ran OK for a while then started the check light nonsense so I went the whole hog and junked the EFI and about 40% of the loom. It now has mechanical improvements - cams, reworked CVO top end, welded crank etc etc and I use a Thunder Heart ignition (with no vacuum advance) and a Mikuni HSR48.... It eats M8s for breakfast, never has fault codes as there is only a crank sensor and no ECU, goes like freakin' crazy and does 45mpg - that's English gallons (4.546 liter). My 2006 model XL1200R is similar with Hammer Performance kit and does 52mpg with never a fault code - it has a Twin Tec TC88A that I wrote a map for with no vacuum advance. Moral to the story : - the more electically complex they become, the more problems they develop.... spend too much on a bike and you spend to much time and money at the dealers !
My nightster had starting issues for a while and it turned out to just be a software update issue. Mine was an older model on the showroom floor, so they didn't update the software on it. Once they did, I was good to go. But I was back and forth with them about 4 times before they did that. Looking at your mileage, Your at a 1000. That's what the dealer recommends to bring the bike in so they can make whatever adjustments after the initial break in period. I'm wondering if THAT is what that light is actually about and whatever dweebs at the dealership you are dealing with just don't know any better. My bike just hit a grand and I got my light on as well. But I'm on a basic model, so no fancy LCDs and what not. 400 hundred just so they can do the tuneup and what not. Hope they actually do something on it for that price. I'm skeptical about so we shall see. I hope that's all it is for you, bro. I mean you ARE at that mileage. Anyway, good luck.
Yup. This definitely stopped me from buying this. My plan B was the rebel from yamaha but that has an oil leak problem I hear a lot about. They dont do motorcycles like they used to😮....SAD.
I’m just try to inform people on their investment. I wish I was luckily I have multiple vehicles I would hate to see someone stranded because the bike has problems.
I think you are talking about Honda Rebel. Yamaha makes awesome and very very reliable bikes! I have 2022 XSR900 and its absolutely blast to ride and 0 problems. But I do like the look of this new sportster. Too bad it has reliability issues. But what I really drool is the Buell Supercruiser, but I heard that it might not come to Europe and thats a shame. cheerios!
Mines at the dealer for software update and the headlight being non functional. I ❤ the bike so hopefully it is resolved after the software update/recall 🙌
Seems like Harley has been having a lot of issues with electronics over the past 2 or 3 model years. I had a 2019 Street Bob and currently have a 2021 Street Bob that I have owned since new and only had 1 check engine light issue that they reset at the dealer and it never came back.
I call it the headache bike, I have 5000.7 miles on it, completely stock, and every time I use it, I have to delete almost all the codes that the check engine has because it runs great. I believe the issue is mainly electronically . But still I love my motorcycle. Be safe everyone
@Chris Krewz totally get your point if view its just annoying but the bike runs fine. Honenstly, they need to do the right thing and fix this. I have a vrod as well and that thing has no where close to the amont of issues.
The shifter needs to be more crispy. Rear brake issues as well. Should have two front brakes considering how fast it is! Needs those crushed carbon fiber Harley-Davidson put on the CVO ROADGLIDE ST. Other than that. Amazing bike. HARLEY-DAVIDSON I HOPE YOU ARE LISTENING TO YOUR CUSTOMERS!!
Similar issue here 22 model year Street Bob. REason - I have aftermarket exhaust without back pressure. All what I need was quiet baffle or something which create back pressure. Or O2 sensor issue - not switched off. ECM and tuner PV 3b issue. Until Today if I remove Quiet baffle and revv the engine - after 15 minutes I will get Engine light check. Nobody at Harley knows why this is happend- tuned many times different maps, called to Dynojet, swapped to VH FP4 - same issue. But when I got back pressure quiet baffle installed - no engine check light.
That why I left my baffle in for the back pressure I didn’t want any engine failure do yo lack of pressure or tune. The bike runs fine with light no I’m just always worried it’s going to leave me stranded lol
I've ridden my vrod almost 80thousand miles now no complaint except occasional maintenance I even ride it almost 24 hours on a over 100 miles per hour and just contently watched the needle pass almost quarter of the analog indicator and from time to time when the road looks very lonely in the back roads I duck my Head and yank twist the throatle to the max and watch the needle go pass down to the very end of the gauge mark I was happy to eat protein stuck between my teeth I tell you that much.
The the rev max motor still needs to prove it self in time. It definitely has the power if I go full out and go for long rides I’ll definitely have extra protein in my teeth lol
It is absolutely not normal to ride all the time long with Check-Engine light ON. Maybe because you have modified the exhaust system so the exhaust is more open and upset the fuel map ? maybe ? We know how Harley are sensitive to exhaust change with air cooled engines. Harley recommend to replace the exhaust + air intake + Tuner.
Yes agreed check engine light is no good it’s definitely not the exhaust I’ve had the same code since 5 miles before any mods and I’m the first owner lol I doubt the tune with fix it. :(
It probably is the exhaust. Euro regulations changed in 2022 or something and force the ECU to give an error code if detects any changed to exhaust. The regs dont apply to the US but probably same ECU programming. Aprilia sells a race ECU for track only use that gets rid of it on their bikes. Brocks is trying to crack a a Kawasaki ECU to defeat it. Different OEMs are handling it differently
@@ChrisKrewz the only way to know for sure is to put the original exhaust back on, ride 100ish miles, clear the error, then see if it comes back. Emissions are getting annoying...
90% of modern vehicles and bikes are garbage. That’s why I’m getting a used 91-03 sportster excluding the bad years. For 2 grand and some love and after market parts I’d trust it more than any new bikes on the market. Especially newer Harleys. They stopped caring about the bikes and only care about the brand years ago.
And the triangle light is part of that same electrical patch. It's telling you it doesn't know what mode it's in. It has nothing to do with your lights and turn signals. That's part of what they had to patch
Thanks for the video it’s Very disappointing it’s otherwise a great bike shows they should stick with the solid analog and stay away from computerised technological components. I am also going to be a first Harley buyer. I am torn between purchasing this or the fat Bob..
Dude you are too nice it is a bad bike! You should not be going through this at all with a brand-new bike! Runs fine until it doesn't! Keep taking it in so you can lemon it!
Enter diagnosis clear EMC. I noticed check engine light comes on when bikes fails turn over on start up. No big deal. Just clear EMC and check engine goes away!
@@ChrisKrewz interesting. Sometimes when I try to start my bike it turns but fails to start but usually starts the second time. This is common from what I've seen on other channels. It registers in the EMC section of the diagnostics. I just clear it and its fine. My bike already has 12.5k on it and has never given me an issues than that mentioned.
My 2021 Low Rider S was my first Harley, motor blew up at 6600 miles. Harley replaced the motor. Took a month. Then nothing but check engine and every other error code you can think of. I traded that bike out soooooooo fast.
84 to 03 is where its at for sportsters. Paid 2200 for mine with 10k miles on it. So much aftermarket for these, youd never have to step into a dealership for the rest of your life.
@@ChrisKrewz they're carb, so not for everyone, but the cv carb is about the easiest to work on and the evo sportster is probably one of if not the best engine harley has made. Not the most powerful but you don't need specialty tools to completely rebuild one at home.
Harley has never been known to build nice bikes… let’s be real. They bank on nostalgia. I feel pretty dumb cause I was always whining Harleys never updated. The Sportster S came out and I was upset it didn’t sound like a Harley. Anyways, pretty sad to see people have this many issues on a home that seemed so promising.
Thanks for the video. I have an R1M and am/was looking at this as a second bike...I'm not sure I want to deal with the headache now. What jacket is that by the way?
I was wondering where you were with the lane-splitting without palm trees in the background. I guessed Northern California. Then I saw the Sacremento sign. You cut that one left turning queue like it was nothing! I dont think I could get away with that in MD. Harley please figure out this man's issue!! (Before I snag a blue one of these)
I got one in June of last year put 2500 miles on it and I have had zero issues with my bike I love it .
If only that sounds awesome she’s a beast
Just rolled into 1600 miles 🙃🙃🙃
Bro you need to upload your expirence, these quacks making a bad name of the sportster but they probably mistreating the bike
Love my 18 street bob, they’re clunky but a lot less junky and WAY easier to maintain
Lmao 🤣 damn I don’t feel bad anymore I’m sorry brother. We’re the new beta testers for sportsters but we have the privilege of paying lmao
Daaammnnn!
My motor blew at 5422 miles because of the cam chain tensioner. Trade it in and get an m8 harley way more reliable...
I trade my sporter s For a new 2023 low rider s
Beautiful machine if only it was 100% what a dream. I think they will fix it if not, a force recall will lol 😂
I took it as well they had it for a day or two but the light still came back :/ idk
Still no code? They flashed mine and about every 70 miles it comes back
Same here
Thanks for the review.
Nice I’ll say wait a bit so prices go down and production gets better 👍🏼
Donfausik - A MANUAL TRANSMISSION ?? MAN ! I WOULDN'T TOLERATE THAT !! I'd go to the HD shop and buy me an automatic '18 SPEED Sportster Srtuv !! You' re misson' out !! Those Harley guys got all kinds of 'Auto- tronics' on their 'lectro bikes ' !! The other guys are gettin' ahead of ya ! You know whoever dies with the most lectronics wins !!!!!
PS - almost forgot, 'Bet theirs cost more than yers did' !!!!!

Very nice I like the bike as well but just hate the little problems:/
Warthog - Just stand by... there's more on the way !!!
But don't worry.. at least it'll tell ya when it's time to take a crap !! And lights will come on, and flash, and blink, and everything !!! You're gonna love it !!
I'm selling mine due being at the dealership 4 times already. Check engine light is what closed the deal. Harley should have never released this bike until all the bugs have been resolved. I will stay with air cooled bikes.
I feel your pain they should have put beta Harley on the ad lol
File a lemon law claim. You will get all your money back.
I have 2023 w/ about 750 miles on it and no issues so far thankfully. It’s a lot of fun to ride.
Awesome to hear brother!! I’m just running with a code so far nothing else
@@ChrisKrewz enjoy it man and be safe. Loved the track footage by the way. Looking forward to h the e full videos. 👍🏾
Wish there was more people like you uploading instead of all these people trying to tarnish the Sportster S
Thanks guys. You saved me from buying this bike!
Oh yeah just some emojis on the screen making you scared.
I am DONE!
Damn even the 23 I’m sorry brother that’s why I put this video up maybe I inform ppl on there investment.
Short suspension travel results in poor shock absorption. This is one of the fastest depreciating & worst selling motorbikes in Vietnam.
Lmao 🤣
Completely understand your frustration my friend👍 let’s see some MT-09 content!🔥
Lol what do you what to see my friend??
I've been debating on trading my 2021 CB1000R Black Edition for a 2023 Sportster S. This video and comments definitely have me questioning that now with how much I ride. The bike looks fantastic but I would hate to keep it in the shop.
I’m not trying to put a bad name on Harley but I would have loved to know the good and the bad. But the bike is definitely a looker
I have a cb650 and test rode one recently… i would not dare trade the cb for it even tho i loved this bike
No way I'd trade that CB1K for that bike.... You will be soooo disappointed.
@@highwayman1218 yea i have a cb650r and i still wouldn’t do it 😂 sportster is not as capable
I'm glad to take a look at your bike. I have a Sportster s 2021
Mine was always in the shop. I eventually traded mine in for the street Bob. I have double the miles and have had 0 issues.
Damn so far I’m ok just the light but it’s annoying
I had the same issue. A new software update took care of it. I've put a 1000 miles on it since no issues.
Damn I got the update but still have the light problem:(
@@ChrisKrewz Look online for the Harley RH1250 code sheet and check what code you're getting with the light.
They’re just trying to washer their hands. What I don’t understand why isn’t anyone talking about this. I wish I knew before I made my purchase.
Hopefully everything is fine it’s an awesome bike. Damn I really want an r7
Have you encountered any more problems with the Indian?
I’m stuck between purchasing the sportster s or Indian scout bobber
I went with my friend to buy this bike today. He got 17k otd .. he really worked them 😂

It just sucks knowing the bike could break down at anytime.
I’ve owned two Harley’s. I loved them both, but HD has HORRIBLE quality control from the factory.
Saw your video in the Facebook group. I put a antigravity battery 480 CCA. Only had 2 codes since install and that was due to it being 40 degrees Fahrenheit out. I think the voltage drop on start leads to codes being thrown
So you think because of the battery not being at the right voltage it’s causing issues ?
I’m in the exact same scenario. Fckin Harley. All I wanted was a fast sporty, not all the tech
@Chris Krewz I have the 21 and withing 6-7 months I had to have the motor replaced because everything internal just went crappy. To be honest I think it's an over priced bike I should of taken the 8200 I put down and got a sport bike plus parts are way cheaper too
No motorcycle manufacturers can compete with the land of the rising sun. In terms of reliability, performance and price.
Basically everything.
Yeah I understand hiccups it’s just when it happens to yourself it sucks is all :(
Thanks I Just bought it.
How you liking it ?
I feel you man, I have the same issue and I haven’t done anything mod wise or exhaust mods not only the check engine light goes off but also the tire and the traction control goes off as well I brought it to the dealership and stays there for more than a month but nothing was fix in regards with the check engine it so frustrating you know mileage is not even 2k it’s just 1090k and just like you I also stop riding the bike and I’m even planing to sell it and switch to triumph rocket r3
Damn I’m sorry I thinking of getting rid of it maybe get one of my dream bike lol idk
Oh, good, yeah. Triumphs have computers now too. And flashin lights and signals and everthang ! Love them computers... GET SOME !!
A month in a shop for a check engine light on a new bike is crazy
Mine will throw an engine light if I don't ride it for two weeks or so, but riding it for a couple hours clears it up. Seems to be fuel related. Also you can clear the engine light from the diag screen.
Mmm 🤔 idk but having the light since day one I just leave it on now lol
Just ignore them as long as it runs fine. Or check with your dealer for 2022 october firmware which i believe is the latest that clears all error. Run load equaliser for your custom taillight as well.
Thank for the tip yeah I was just planning on riding it I’ll just tape the light lmfao 🤣
This is why I made the video because had I seen this video maybe I would’ve waited longer to get it or get my Ducati instead lol
INDIAN Scout bobber all day!
I want one, do you have one? how do you like it ?
Good luck with the bike
Thanks brother I will try
I recently had a new exhaust system added to my Harley and the check engine light would come on afterward especially while accelerating. It was the O2 sensors which I replaced and now it’s good. I hope this helps
Hmmm I was thinking it could be that thank you 🙏🏼
I had mine ('21) serviced at Glendale HD once for no-start issue @5000 miles.

I definitely agree but they definitely shouldn’t have pushed out the product before it was ready

I feel your pain. My Lowrider S runs like a champ but i did have some check engine lights come up from my battery being low at the time. I love my bike though and hopefully you got the issue figured out
Did you get a tune after swapping the pipe? The mixture ratio definitely changed after the pipe swap ... that happens on any bike.
Damn sorry I deterred you from the bike not my intentions just giving out the facts, that I wish I had :/ I hope you get something awesome
Damn sounds like a headache I’m glad mine is just a light lol 😆 but even that annoying
Thanks for sharing... just keep hammering the warranty until the bug are sorted out. lucky I have a 2018 Zed 900 Kawasaki that is perfect so I still ride while the Harley gets straightened out
As for the check engine light it happened on all of them and they just put out a patch for it. The software patch is available at your dealership
It has the latest software and I’m still getting the check engine light unfortunately:(
I have a 23 S as well the dealer has picked it up 2x since I brought it home. I have not put 1 single mile on it yet. The check engine light comes on it high idles excessively at start, it sounds very mechanical like something with the timing chain is off, to stop the high idle I pull in the clutch and it goes away for a while. I’m so deflated pertaining to this bike
I’m looking to swap the bike for something else. It only has 000.7 miles and that was the dealers mileage. 😢
That’s crazy not even leaving the dealership having problems wow. I was fortunate to buy my bike right when they were closing the moment I left seconds later I got a check engine light. How funny.
No problems with the sportster s. An amazing bike.
Nice what year is yours?
They usually Say Never by the first year of a certain vehicle or bike and you can always tell Harley never does enough product testing before they put something out . They definitely need better quality control
Lol we test for them. I know that’s why I got the 23 not 22 I figured it wouldn’t have problems.
@ChrisKrewz did you face any issues with the 23 model?
Still having issues with this Chis? also how does the power compare to the Mt09?
I was wondering wtf a “chicken in” is then realised he was trying to say “check engine” hahaha

i was so close to buying one of these over a wide glide. Lucky my spider senses were tingling haha
Seems like quite a devided community, either its worse case or no issues at all. I'm luckily in the latter group. Owning my sportster s since Nov 2023 and 5000km, no issues. 2023 might have brought major revisions from factory to adress all the gremlins?
How’s the bike treating u? Any reason to take it back to Harley? Debating getting a 24 or possibly a 23 new if it’s available
I feel your pain great choice with the mt09 super reliable fast fun bike
The thing about Harley is they are designed to be modified, This guy didn't mod it to his needs, if I was him I'd get a seat cushion, handlebar risers, and a fairing with a windshield. And all that would run me about $250
Thanks for the review, I was going to buy one , but will stick with my 1987 Honda GB500TT no engine check light 😂😂😂
when is the engine light start coming up? new owner here and just done 300 miles with no issues. But after reading some comment and this video got me a little worry.
I think you’ll be good 👍🏼 I had problems since day one
I just test road a 2023, the Torque & Thrust in Sport mode is AMAZING, however, I’ll wait till the 2024/2025 models to even consider getting one. Hopefully, by then the Gremlins will be sorted ,??🤷🏻♂️
Hoping with trial and error they fix the bike so others don’t deal with these problems. Because the bike is awesome but I would say wait a bit.
@@ChrisKrewz
From what I see, the 21-22 models are the ones that have issues.
But yes, I would wait until the 2024 models, at least if I decide. ??
Why do the new liquid cooled ones not sound as good as the old air cooled ones? Even with afterfitted pipes?
I wish I could tell you different design different sound I guess
Wish you the best hopefully you get your bike soon the weather starting to get good! I might need another update or something to fix my problem.
Just so that y'all know. Warranty for the first two years transfers, regardless if it's a new owner.
Bike came out 21 we’re in 23 we have 9 10 months left to figure out the problem lmao🤣
There are certain motorcycle manufacturers when they come out with a new model you don't have problems motorcycles just work really good. 😮
I feel you kinda annoying right. I catch myself riding my other bike because of it :/
Bro did you ever get this issue resolved? I’m looking into getting a 2022 and this is stopping me
I didn’t still rocking with the issues lol 😂 but my bike is running fine. It’s the electronics.
Mine always throw lights and go in to limp mode when it does that weird starter wine and fails to start
Luckily I only get a light it’s just annoying I understand smh 🤦♂️
Just picked up a new 2023, put about 900 miles on it. It's back at the dealer for no start issues
Damn a 2023 !! Hope it’s minor brother you’ll be riding soon
What was the cause of the no start problem? Did it get fixed?
Did you ever find a fix for the CEL?
Lol I have more lights
Hey, bike looks 👌 Where did you get that exhaust shield from?
It’s the stock one just cut 😎
It seems like people have more knowledge then the Harley techs lol
@@ChrisKrewz the only way to know for sure is to put the original exhaust back on, ride 100ish miles, clear the error, then see if it comes back. Emissions are getting annoying...
90% of modern vehicles and bikes are garbage. That’s why I’m getting a used 91-03 sportster excluding the bad years. For 2 grand and some love and after market parts I’d trust it more than any new bikes on the market. Especially newer Harleys. They stopped caring about the bikes and only care about the brand years ago.
I need to try out an older model to see what I’m missing damn. It’s all about the money.
And the triangle light is part of that same electrical patch. It's telling you it doesn't know what mode it's in. It has nothing to do with your lights and turn signals. That's part of what they had to patch
Unfortunately, the patch didn’t fix it in my case.
Thanks for the video it’s Very disappointing it’s otherwise a great bike shows they should stick with the solid analog and stay away from computerised technological components. I am also going to be a first Harley buyer. I am torn between purchasing this or the fat Bob..
I think they just need more trial and error before they mass produce especially for a new motor. I still love the thing
@@ChrisKrewz I would go with Fat Bob all day
@@harmjass8178 i definitely need to tryout more bikes
Dude you are too nice it is a bad bike! You should not be going through this at all with a brand-new bike! Runs fine until it doesn't! Keep taking it in so you can lemon it!
I feel you my wife says the same thing lol
Enter diagnosis clear EMC. I noticed check engine light comes on when bikes fails turn over on start up. No big deal. Just clear EMC and check engine goes away!
My bike has never failed it literally has no problems but the check engine light. I reset the light and it just always comeback unfortunately 🫰
If you don't already try running one brand premium fuel at all times preferably one that's proven ethanol free. See if that helps anything
My 2021 Low Rider S was my first Harley, motor blew up at 6600 miles. Harley replaced the motor. Took a month. Then nothing but check engine and every other error code you can think of. I traded that bike out soooooooo fast.
Mmm should I trade my bike in ?
84 to 03 is where its at for sportsters. Paid 2200 for mine with 10k miles on it. So much aftermarket for these, youd never have to step into a dealership for the rest of your life.
If I only had this information going into it lol.
True they’re trying new things you can’t say the same if you want to grow. The unfortunate part is the bike has many problems.
Could it be a ghost code with your tune for the exhaust? I know this can happen for cars when you so do exhaust mods.
The problem is I’ve had this check engine light since I rode away from the dealer after 1 mile and have been having the same code since stock.
I haven't had a single check engine light on my 1977 XLH1000 sportie?
Yeah because now a days things are build with profit in mine not quality
@@ChrisKrewz and the fact that it doesn't have a check engine light...hehe, but yes I agree. Can't stand modern products.
Obviously, The real H-D were older Sporsters, Roadking, Springer Softail, Ultra, older Fatboy, older Dyna, nothing else
Sad to see motorcycles destroyed by electronics.
Damn faxes they could got a home run unfortunately not
No electronics, no problem ....
Very true lol
Running my 2020 883. Simple, Light mods on all areas except the engine. I did install a 31t front sprocket to drop vibes. Great ride...
I just like the new toys just didn’t think I was going to have problems I always think things can get fixed. Ty
I don't have any issues with my 01 Sportster S. Too bad that they don't make them anymore 😂
Lol 😂 I bought a Christmas tree with the lights on
Thanks for the video. I have an R1M and am/was looking at this as a second bike...I'm not sure I want to deal with the headache now. What jacket is that by the way?
It’s a headache lol just wait it’s a Daninese
I was wondering where you were with the lane-splitting without palm trees in the background. I guessed Northern California. Then I saw the Sacremento sign. You cut that one left turning queue like it was nothing! I dont think I could get away with that in MD. Harley please figure out this man's issue!! (Before I snag a blue one of these)
The blue one is nice I just want this bike to do well and get a good reputation. Not be known as bike that just break down lol
