Seen XM594 in the flesh today at NAM, Was really lucky to have had a Cockpit tour and spend 15 minutes in the capable hands of ex-Vulcan Pilot John LeBrun which was a privilege.

Love this one, we need somehow to get more of these historic aircraft flying again

If we built her once, we can build her again. Built to be a bomber, she flew like a fighter.
Surely it's better to spend money on one dual purpose plane than two single use ones.

The restoration bill to have one flying will be astronomical. Given all the modern safety requirements. That said, It must be possible, even if the insides are ripped out and modern safe systems and engines are installed. it will not be "original" but I wouldn't care, not one jot. The beauty of the Vulcan is that delta wing.

@@gusgone4527 I agree, there was one flying but ended up grounded, the running costs are extortionate, shame. I remember them in service at waddington in the 50's as a kid, erilly scary sound when engine testing!

@@StephenTurner240 Hi Stephen, eerily scary indeed. I must be a decade younger than you and an aircraft nutter from my pre-teen years. A keen model builder too in my youth. After building a wooden model of Vulcan with my father he took me to an airshow to see one for real. It was the start of a long term love affair with the type.
I visit the nearest museum example as often as possible. It is in need to considerable TLC after standing outside for decades. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_East_Land,_Sea_and_Air_Museums

Even if they are not fully original, just replicas. Original fuselage shape so outwardly it looks perfect. But with modern off the shelf engines and avionics for safety reasons.

That story about the Squadron leader who had to land at Rio de Janeiro airport is well worth a read. he had to divert to Rio on his way back from a Black Buck raid as his refuelling probe had broken and he was out of fuel. He made it on fumes but the REAL problem was he had two Shrike anti radar missiles that were armed but had 'hung up' on the wing pylons. So he had anti radar missiles in the middle of a radar filled airport. It was a typical British diplomatic scam that got the Vulcan released But a very Heath Robinson effort by the crew to get the missiles removed and made safe.
