It looks like these folks really been investing back into their company. I was looking around and they got quite a few little thinking out of the box ideas!
I'd rather go for a MPC One and use a ripcord and battery like this. Where I live, MPC Live 2 is almost twice the price of the One. One is nice and compact too!
I switched out the ripcord for the XTPower battery pack (did a video on it). It supports higher current output (amps) and has a regular power output. It has been serving me well with the MPC One (even used it with the Force)

Thanks for watching. Check my latest video on the Xt Power pack, that's what I've been using instead. As far as safe, it is made to work like this, but only time will tell, everyone has to make up their own mind as to if they want to use it or not.
My 2c: I've had this cord since February and it's caused my MPC to drop out many times and a lot recently to the point where I stopped using it after the 5th or 6th drop out. It can't handle power spikes from higher CPU workloads.
@@SoundsAndGear Word: DC to DC? If so, I had something like that originally: it was just too pricey which is why I tried the ripcord which I always suspected couldn't provide enough power.
Did you test how long the MPC lasts? Also check this one out: load a highly intensive project and see what happens. On Maschine+ sometimes the audio glitches like crazy (when on battery). So I'm assuming when it requires the most Ampers... if it can't get them, it craps out. But nonetheless these cables are magic. Digitakt, Maschine+, Octatrack MK1 & MK2, they all work with these cables. Make sure you check the voltage and the polarity of the connectors.
I mentioned how long it lasted in the video. This battery doesn't work with Maschine+, not enough current, audio is all glitched out, so I'll probably find another one for that. The MPC seems to handle things better when running on battery, no issues with anything I've done so far.
In case other people come across this video, like I did : the ripcord IS NOT WORKING great with the MPC. I usually really love the MyVolt ripcords but in this case it simply isn't doing the job. My MPC would boot up, I would start playing around, and at some point the ripcord overheats and shutdowns, cutting current. MyVolt were nice enough to refund me without questions, but I think they simply shouldn't claim compatibility in this case. It can barely output 0.47A of current and this is simply not enough.
Hey SJ the one needs 3.42 A to work. You'd better get that stronger battery. " Via power adapter: 19 V, 3.42 A, center-positive, included" scerpt from specs in akai's site
How’s that battery holding up? I’m literally parked outside GC trying to figure out if I should buy the one or live2 solely for portable use. Please Lmk
I switched to using an XTC Power bank, works fine, but still not quite the same as having a built in battery. If you don't mind having an external battery attached to your device then it can work out. I honestly do not travel/take my mpc with me much so I can't really speak on the longevity of the battery I'm using.
These myvolt cables are great. I have one for the digitakt, O-Coast and the tetra. I tried plugging one of these straight into the wall and it doesn’t work. Just be mindful of what power bank you use.
the problem with the ripcord cables is that if the voltage gets higher the current gets lower. thats basic physic. If you read the written things on the back of the usb, you see that the output is max. 0.47A and your MPC One needs arround 3. I'm Supriced it worked on yours cause pysicaly it shouldn't
Hey the cable you linked is rated for 10W, the mpc one specs states 19V@3.4A so about 64W maximum. Doesn't the cable get warm? Edit: From testing I read it seems that at 30% CPU usage the MPC One draws 1A-1.5A
If it indeed pulls up to 1.5 A at 19v that's 5.7 A at 5 Volts. I don't think you can get affordable powerbanks that can deliver that much juice. I suspect it actually uses much less power otherwise more people would run in to problems. Edit: or did you mean they pull 1.5 A at 5v?
Hello sir! Thanks a lot for making this video and suggesting this alternative to the usual battery solution for this little MPC fella. I have some worries regarding this ripcord cable and perhaps you can enlighten me: - Have you tried powering the MPC One not just standalone but also with a USB keyboard plugged into the back, drawing power from the USB plug? - Have you since found and/or tried a battery with a higher Amperage? If so, does that solves the startup hiccups entirely? Thank you very much 🙏
I usually do not use a USB keyboard but I did try with a little irig keyboard once or twice. I'm using an XT power battery now, which has regular dc output so I don't need this cable anymore.
@@cermet1320 That's the one I use, It works, but anything other than what comes with the device you're probably taking a chance with. I doubt Akai would officially support anything other than what they ship it with. I've had no issues.
