Testing out our new XC bikes on some real Moab tech (Cap'n Ahab Trail)

- Today, we’re heading to Moab, Utah, to escape the spring snow and host a trip with Chasing Epic, as well as stretch out our legs on some proper singletrack after a winter with a LOT of road riding. We’ll be riding Cap’n Ahab, an iconic Moab double-black diamond trail, and one that has served for us, in years past, as a way of seeing if our technical skills need sharpening up before the season. And today, in the spirit of a season full of burly XC races, we’ll be tackling it on the little bikes.

I swear your guys footage looks crisper and better than any other youtube channel I watch.
I love this footage. Especially the way you support each other in the dicey parts...
My wife and I have been watching you guys since about 2018 we think ( the bad audio times 😂 )
We both have commented Syd looks like she is on another level recently. Significantly more confidence/higher skills. Super stoked after all the pain and struggle of a long injury and recovery.
So good to see you guys doing what you do, having fun and life moving forward ❤❤❤
Love this landscape - the warm brown colour is just so relaxing to me.
That was a truly enjoyful ride. Love to watch more XC bike on a more technical, gnarly trail as this one above.
We’ve been watching you all for quite some time and I have to say Syd is cleaning stuff soooo well this year!! We are so proud of you guys
Can confirm, was smiling all day. Now smiling in memory 😊
This was one of the best clear videos you have ever done! Gorgeous colors!
A bit under the weather atm and this was a real pick me up guys. Moab is just beautiful. ❤
Sorry to hear. Hope you feel better soon!
Great seeing you two at Moab Rocks again and great fantastic out there! This video hits home as I remember the 1st edition Moab Rocks (2013 I believe) which had Stage #1 as the old school Hurrah Pass-Jacob's Ladder hike a bike and finally around and down Captain Ahab to finish at the parking lot. To this day riding Ahab on my then 100mm XC race bike (w/ NO dropper) was one of the more comical/terrifying races I've done. Today's XC bikes are SO much more capable as you prove here. Cheers yall! 🍻
Dang, that's epic. It would be rad if they brought that stage back...
Great to see you too and congrats on the win!!
You two a simply the best!!!
Thanks for another great video.
Love Ahab. That was good footage!
Was there the in late March, beautiful area and trails! The Moab Canyon Pizza Co, makes some tasty pie!! Wicked brew is some really good coffee as well.
Really enjoyed the video. On other channels I get bored just watching trail riding but it doesn't happen with you guys. Looks like a great place - may have to put that on the list.
Looking forward to the visit to the mothership next week!
Love the last of your clip, I have been there a couple of times picking up my Fezzari/ARI bikes.
16:02 textbook flat turn technique Macky. I watched that 3 second clip about 80 times.
OK! I now feel that I finally have done Ahab...courtesy of you two. LOL
Such beautiful country. Thank you for sharing!
I love watching you guys ride! Working out solutions and working toward improving your technique and strength.
The rider matters more than the bike. Great riding and great video!
Wow, Syd killing it on my favorite trail, making the hard parts look easy!
Man, I'm sure glad you didn't come across any rocks out there. 😂 You two seem to be really gelling with the new bikes. Macky, beast as always. Syd, I've never seen your confidence at such a high level. You two are gonna kill it this year. Best year yet!! Keep rollin and I'll see ya next Friday for another edition of Friday Night Mountain Biking! 👊👍
Right after the cow sign macky had a great line he took up the path, I seen it then he took it and it gave me goose bumps. Nice work macky love you guys
Nice riding as always you two, I feel like the Signal Peak is basically a light duty trail bike with XC roots!
i love when you guys make a video on a trail i know very well.
Gosh the quality of the video is CRISPY! Looks super good - same goes with the riding! Love it.
Looks like a fun place to play on the rocks. Probably much easier going up on XC bikes. But less fun going down.
I will fill you in on the pink flagging, as I also do medical for those races. Mad Moose 50 mile race, starting from the Behind the Rocks area. It’s a beast! Good to see you in Moab this weekend ✌️😎
Nice “dolly” move at 10:32. 🤘🏻
“Syd Vicious” (somebody had to say it..)
“Ride Moab on an XC?” “Always have.”
Would it be possible for you to make a video about getting in to mountain bike racing? What gear you need, where to look for races, how to sign up, etc? I would love to get into something like this after watching your awesome videos!
Amazing video
Beautiful blue skys awesome trail. Thanks!!
Hey Macky, I put a pan under my dishwasher that forces the water to run out towards the front so you’ll know when you have a problem and protect that nice wood floor. Here’s a link: Camco Camper/RV Dishwasher Drain Pan | Features a Heavy-Duty Polymer Construction | Designed for Water to Flow toward the Front of the Dishwasher | Outer Measurements 24-inches x 20.5-inches (20600)
Awesome video, the scenery was breathtaking. Looked like you were having a fun time!!
Beautiful scenery! Nice riding, that looks pretty challenging.
I can hear a big change in the sound, and i think its the bikes not the recording. More freewheel sound and Less rattle for instance. Looking forward toa deep dove into the tech.
Pink flags were for an ultra run. They were running I the day I rode this same trail couple weeks about this same time you made this video.
Like all your videos they’re amazing and awesome!!👌🚴🚴👍✌️🙋🏻♂️
That is some technical riding!! I know i would be walking a lot of places. Great riding.
Awesome. Keep on rollin".🙂🙃🙂
Macky has a new filming style....running behind you....You guys ought to travel to the mountains of NC..we have some awesome trails there...and lots of trees...its an interesting place to ride.
Great video! 🤗👍 That trail is awesome! 😎
You know even if you didn't explain in words how to tackle technical obstacles with you XC MTB"s if it's climbing or going downhill... your amazing footage showed so well how it's done! 👍👍👍
Also how to help each other and encourage, well done! 🤗
Keep up the good work. 😎👍
Best regards,
David 😎
Love this video. Lotsa fun. Loved the commentary on both your parts. Really good narration, Syd! The only criticism I have is that I don't like long socks. hahahahaha! That's all. I'm a shorty. Great job!
After watching your new build video, I went ahead ordered a Angel Revo Halo saddle. I put it on my hard tail and it worked great. I just ordered one for my road bike.
Syd beast mode.
It's very interesting that Macky rides 800mm bars on the bigger bikes! I feel like even downhill pros have been cutting their bars down. EWS (or EDR or whatever) pros seem to all be in the 750-760 range.
Have you tried the narrower bars on the big bikes?
Hey, if the dishwasher is not draining properly, it’s possible that the drain is clogged or the suction motor is not working.
It happened to my dishwasher so I cleaned the drain and replaced the motor (like $50) and it’s been working perfectly. Easy fix and I think there is a youtube video on it. 👍👍
What a beautiful bikes!!!
Nice drone footage at 9:29 :D
Looks like Syd's strength training is really paying dividends. Several of the obstacles look like core and leg just plain made it happen.
Good to see a harder ride of the Ari / Fezzari, Signal Peak.
I too carry my Fezzari on a rack on back of my SUV and have driven through bad weather. Any Pro tips for bike care after all the snow deicer and road grim has settled unto my trusty steed?
We try to make sure the chains are properly lubed beforehand if we know there might be bad weather while driving and then wash them as quickly as possible after the drive.
The cow's gonna say Mooo, no matter what that sign says.
That’s impressive to do with only 2 water bottles! I usually need the big Camelbak reservoirs when riding Moab!
Great job. You guys make those Signal Peaks look great. Are you picking up some La Sals at the factory. You will love them. Have a great race season, and thanks for all the good stories.
Yup, looking forward to getting our La Sals and Delanos in the next couple months!
can i ask what action camera you used and what the video resolution,,because it's look beatiful very clear.....
Macky was only half right when he said Syd was making this look easy - you both are amazing at making the technical stuff look easy. And as good as the bikes might be, I think the credit for the ride belongs with the talent you both have. What a tough ride!!!
Another nice vid! You guys using DJI's now? Just got an action 4, wonder what settings y'all are using...
I'm an appliance repair tech. Look real close at that lower spray arm. It is most likely split in half, throwing water sideways at the lower door. Part# W10837249 Thanks for the epic mt bike content.
We will look into it! Thank you!
We flag for trail work spots in Grand Junction CO during the spring. Might be that.
Sender Macky!😂
How do you avoid getting flats over all the rocks? What tire pressure you run on that type of terrain?
Have you guys ever done the Cape Epic in South Africa ?
Great vid. Syd is looking seriously strong.
Have you looked at getting a teardrop camper trailer for those overnight and stage races? Might be a little more comfortable and practical than a tent and stuff crammed in the back of the SUV.
How does the signal peak compare to the Niner RKT?
Question. How is that FORD EXPLORER working out for you?
Hows your shoulder sir fully recovered give me some tips to get my shoulder back to 100 %
The joys of home ownership. Always something to fix.
Are you guys running a dual suspension lockout lever plus a dropper lever? If so, what’s the product? Thanks for reminding me of the joys of Ahab. I frequently rode it with my hardtail singlespeed first couple years after opening and that was a nice test of fitness up top on those steep stepup moves. Getting more rugged each year...
Yeah that's the Bontrager Droplock lever. We only use the rear lockout, but it has spots for dual lockout if want them.
What hubs are you using? How much travel on those bikes?
DT180 hubs. 120mm front, 115 rear
Macky sounds like a pony chasing Syd down, to get those shots for us.
To be fair, cows can be pretty persuasive.
Hey guys
I want to see Macky on a trials bike
yikes. I'd do that on an XC bike too, because I'd lose a lot more speed climbing on an Enduro than I would descending on an XC
I did it once a long time ago...its got some real nasty parts
The underneath of your dishwasher is exceptionally clean. It's very clear you guys don't have children or pets lol
Great video. Much improved from years past. Wonder why you rarely pay tribute to your sponsors (bike) during ride? Kind of seems like the last thing on your minds. Area of opportunity?
We don't want our viewers to feel like we're shoving our sponsors down their throats and also want to wait until we get our Ari-branded Signal Peaks to show them off 😜
@@sydandmacky You are or should be selling the products that support you. I assume you like and endorse them so why not say it - more:)? I’ve heard you mention that previously, but I think its less authentic or awkward to not comment on the bikes you rely upon. Just my two cents. Really enjoy your content. Best wishes on the year. Cheers
I would never ride this trail w/o elbow/knee pads!
🤔 All these years I have been watching your vids I just took for granted that you were married but I see no rings
lol they're married
Rings and bikes aren't a great combination.
@@AlliKat75nothing better than getting gloved...if you aren't familiar with gloving then Google images may not be your friend, or maybe it is😮😂
IDK though we are not professional like they are we are avid cyclelist and me and my wife wear our rings it was I just inquiry directed to the content creators
We are married 😊 we just aren't ring people 🤷 I wore a qalo ring for awhile but lost it while swimming so thank goodness it wasn't expensive! Haha
That was some VERY NICELY SHARP video quality.
At 13.36 was mak compliment syds riding or her curves? Lol.
Why no dishwasher tray under the dishwasher?they are cheap and easy. If there is a leak it comes out the front and you can catch it quickly. We also have water alarms on the washing machine and dishwasher, and our aquarium pump
