Why I LOVE fixing old MTB’s

I just subscribed because my ‘85 Stumpjumper is my only bike right now for mixed terrain , gravel touring and I’m excited you “go there” too
I have a 3x 50/38/24 and a 7spd 14-34. My limitation currently is my budget.. I can’t right now go out and buy a gravel bike. I can’t even responsibly hunt down the late 80’s MB-1 I ideally want. So my Stumpy needs to keep transforming .., which is really cool right?! But may I ask. … shall I stick with 26”s for now , or upsize to 650B’s since I would redo the drivetrain anyway? If it’s also my tourer for now,… should I go all the way to 1X .. or should I maybe stick with a 2X? If you vote for 2X, .. how many spd? PS : I’m partial to friction options.
