Salute to everyone that requested this video. Jodeci are still legends in the game, but if I had to find reasons they didn't maximize their potential, these would be it. What say you?
De Vante was the one who brought Suge Knight in as Jodeci’s manager starting with “ Diary of A Mad Band” and Suge was trying to bring Jodeci as well as Mary J Blige to Death Row/ interscope as recording artists !
Devante made the beat on 2Pac’s song “No More Pain” from the album All Eyez On Me. He shouted him out when he said “Sure to make a million with Devante”
Jodeci is one of my favorite groups during my childhood. I was fortunate enough to be around the time when R&B was making real music. Basically, they were one of the most influential groups of the 90s, so they were one of the greatest R&B groups of all-time. They are living legends in the game today. We are happier that they are back together once again.
De Vante’s dominance as a songwriter/ producer ultimately hurt the group too because he started to take a inactive role in live concert performances after the “Diary of The Mad Band” album…because he was working with his Swing Mob Entertainment artists who would later be known as the Basement Crew…Timbaland, Missy Elliot’s group Sista, a another female group featuring Tweet, Playa featuring the late great songwriter Static Major, Ginuwine, and etc…in 1995 , De Vante was a executive producer on the Dangerous Minds soundtrack in 1995 with a lot of those artists contributing songs and he was also the one who spearheaded the management deal with Suge Knight and Death Row but MCA Records would not let the group go at first but it seemed like …they eventually ended up on Interscope but I did not like what this video said about the robbery at De Vante’s house …you said Suge Knight did it but that was not proven from what I know…also Dalvin produced and had a solo album that was released on Madonna’s Maverick Records label until she shelved his career after their alleged relationship ended…also you did not mention the vocal decline of Jo Jo which many sources including Anthony Hamilton have talked about during interviews!
DeVante is the biggest what-if in black pop culture & could’ve been on of the biggest cross over acts as well. Could’ve been a hybrid of Prince & Barry Gordy, that’s how dominant he was in terms of production, instrument, and scouting talent. And to be straight forward he had the looks of a pretty boy. To the point where he could’ve possibly done a solo career. From the mid 90’s pushing into I would say the mid 2000’s. He should be more revered.
Best R &B group of my generation!! The new " Crack " era of music, is here😢.Let's hold record labels responsible for these killings and Self destruction of our youth ge..Hmm
Idk about stunt #1. R&b was still pretty dominant till about 02-04. Their sound just got dated. The slow tempo over singing girl moaning sound just got old. R&b’s tempo sped up n things became more club/party orientated. Plenty of r&b acts had success post Jodeci lol. Their sound got dated n they all were drunks n junkies. Tht simple. S/o their 3rd album tho. TOO underrated.
@@Lenasevilla-yb4ei dated FOR THAT ERA. You’re slow af. Listen to Jodeci’s 2nd album. Then listen to r&b from let’s say 1999. It’s a completely different sound. Their sound didn’t last to the later 90s. Get tf over it.
Most artists only get a 5 year window to have the spotlight. And usually get 3 to 4 good albums at their peak. So, Jodeci is just like most artists, 5 years & 4 good albums (in this case 3) of prominence. Also, the success of K-Ci & JoJo carried the torch for a while. And proteges Timbaland & Missy have had lasting success!
My Favorite R&B Group Of All Time, Jodeci Were Trend Setters, They Recorded The First Remix Ever, And Was The First To Make The Edgy R&B Music Popular, Its Like U Said, The 20 Year Hiatus Hurt Them, I Think A Jodeci Reunion Album In 99 Woulda Been Perfect Timing , Kinda Like How Silk Did When They Came Back Out In 99
Man, if Tribe Called Quest was the apex of Native Tongues, if Public Enemy was the apex of politically conscious Hip Hop, If P-Diddy was the apex of Bling era rap, than Jodeci was the APEX of New Jack Swing era R&B.
There is a reason there is no Jodeci Unsung. They sold entirely too many records to be considered stunted. the ONLY group that outsold them R&B wise is Boyz II Men. KC & jojo had a great run, and Devante had HITS outside of Jodeci too (some of HTown's best songs are Devante Produced)
Jodeci are the "Bad Boys of R&B". But there were competition they had. Boys II Men, New Edition, Bel Big Devoe, 112, Jagged Edge, Dru Hill, Silk, LSG (Levert Sweat Gill) After 7, Sons Of Funk, Hi Five, Shai, Portrait, H-Town, Mint Condition. They took over "Some of them" while Jodeci broke up and doing their own thing individually.
I liked their song Lady. And I liked the other singer on that song then Bobby V. When Bobby V did his Unsung, he and the other members of Mista were on it.
I Love Jodeci They Are the Epitome of R&B and Hip hop Soul.... Get on up , Freak N You , Life , Stay , and they deep album cuts are on heavy Rotation 🔥 I was blessed to see them at Jazz in the Gardens last year they didn't miss a beat or a note .....

Interesting. I actually never believed they reason for disbanding in 1995. I know how the music industry works. I'm finna go on broken record mode right nah, but hear me out though... See, most artists only get 3 - 5 years of limelight. They get 3 - 5 years because during those years, the impact is on turbo. They influence is targeted to a specific age demographic. A lot can happen within 3 - 5 years. The sound of music is everchanging and the music industry has to remain current and basically cater to the current generation. Nah, some artists get blessed w/ legendary status and some artists get the "one-hit wonder" status. Do yo' research. Most '90s R&B artists end up having the same stories. My "3 - 5 years of limelight" came from sheer observation. Most '90's R&B artists done went on record and stated that they label situations dissolved OR they had little to no promo after they debut. Nah, this is all within 3 - 5 years. Is this a coincidence or is this simply a curious case of the music industry phasing artists out after 3 - 5 years? Anyhow, circling back to Jodeci. I don't believe Hip-Hop being the reason for them getting the boot. I believe they time was up and they were about to be replaced by Dru Hill. I believe that through and through because the music industry replaces artists and bands w/ the quickness. They're always looking & booking ahead for that next wave of talent. Look at how they did Mr. Jackson. He was on top of the world during the '80s, but we saw him cool down during the '90s. Boyz II Men was unbeatable from 1991 - 1997. After 1997's _A Song For Mama,_ they disappeared faster than Casper. This happens to ALL artists. Most artists ain't gon get them consistent Usher Raymond/Ma'Riah Carey/Janet Jackson/Mary J.
