Lionheart, I have been diagnosed with a form of sever, long term depression. Watching your videos helps so much... Thank you for all the Total War: Rome II videos. I think it's one of your best series yet
Use the 'G' button to group them, and use 'Ctrl+G' for a formation group. If you do a formation group, that unit remains in the formation you put it if you select the whole group. And to zoom in you need to press the 'Insert' button.
How many of us are ever actually up to par when we first play a new total war version? I remember Medieval total war 2 viking expansion took a while to get used to. Over all I love watching this guy. Its obvious from the British campaign that he's getting better as time goes on.
I've noticed when it comes to a siege battle depending on how you attack (by sea or land) determines the siege equipment you bring. For instance if your land army builds ladders, rams and your fleet has the catapult ships or ballistas, Then attacking using the land force you will get your ladders and rams but the only ships that will come into the battle will be the troop ships. Attacking with the sea force will give you the catapult ships but not the siege equipment
Lionheart, ive gotta say, you, are a brilliant strategist! apart from some others i have seen (who just carelessly throw their troops into the fray), you on the other hand, use them to their full potential! just thought id say these kind words to make you pumped for more of your awesome play throughs. and i only wish, that i was have as good as you! :)
Pretty sure those extra kills there that you couldn't figure out were from towers. I don't think tower kills count for any faction, only the deaths they cause are tallied on the wrap-up screen.
Thanks for responding to the unit card size thing Lionheart. I'm at 1600x900 and the weird thing is that in a custom battle the unit card sizes are the same as yours (normal and totally acceptable), however in my campaign they are super sized (about 1/2 inch or 2.5 cm above the height of the mini-map). Regardless its still my favorite total war yet, and keep up the good work Lionheart!
I think the ladders will only appear if you choose the besieging army as the main force, where you attacked with the navy as main force. And by the way you set build queue for three sets of ladders, if I recall correctly each set has 3 ladders in them, so if you had continued the siege you would have had 9 ladders total
Very interesting video. I have been watching this campaign, and the Iceni and Rome campaigns you have been doing, all very interesting to watch. I am wondering though why you never seem to build naval units beyond the admirals themselves?
I think it's hilarious that Cameraman almost caught and killed that Athenian spy, either passively or when she tried to kill him instead. Canace, "Well, nothing up my sleeve--AHA concealed blade--!" Nikon: "Whoops, me too!" *stab* "Darn, I missed..."
Hey Lionheart. The gap in kills in the final count was due to your ship's ramming. Those deaths are counted as environmental and are not attributed to your army.
A none war based tip, If you haven't already started doin' so in later plays. Work on trade agreements with more distant nations. The farther the better (Because face it. Everyone wants to wipe out the nations closest to their territories ;D) So if you have a nation with a trade agreement right next to one of your settlements, chances are it won't last long before you take their city lol
I watched one youtuber playin' both total war romes that had less tactical sense than a half dead skunk. Lion isn't the best, not by far. But he's most assuridly not the worse. I live for these kinda games, so I would definitely be able to teach him some things whenever I buy the game ;D
Have to say lion just started watching not to long ago and I am quite impressed. Makes me want to go get this game I have Empire total war so I know this game is just as good as you make it out to be :)
According to Merriam-Webster, the proper english pronunciation is Hop-Lights, but I believe either the original Greek word was pronounced Hop-li-tays or the Romans said it that way. Similar to how a normal english speaker pronounces Macedon, Mas-ah-don, but in game it's pronounced Mak-ah-don because the romans said it that way.
Finally some lets play in rome 2 done by commander that doesnt make big strategic errors. Nice to watch this man. Keep up the good work. Also will you do Rome 2 lets play HC dificulty?
Lionheart, when you are recruiting a general/agent hover your mouse over the star on the top right corner of the man's portrait to see his attributes and other stuff
I do believe the reason their central reinforcements did not come when you entered the city was because you had the gates 2 towers which in that fight would case them considerable losses (in other words the AI want a complete idiot)
Pikes should really be used in blocks. Preferably four or more ranks deep. Stringing pikemen out into thin double lines is really against the intention of the weapon.
A sling isn't a sling shot, kids don't use slings, they use sling shots. A sling shot has a rubber band which you put the projectile in and fire, laughing at the kid who gets hit in the arm. Men use slings, were you put the projectile into cloth were you swing it around to gain momentum and fire, sending the projectile to crack someones skull open.
Hey Lionheart i have a question concerning the radious battle mod. At the the forum it says "Unpack and put mod into Rome 2 data folder." So my question now is do i have to put the the radious battle mod - folder into that path or only the "Radious_Battle_Mod.pack" data?
hey lion heart the seige ladders spawn in front of you, you have to move your troops over to them.... it confused the hell out of me for like my first 5 sieges
Do you have any source for this? I am not doubting you, but I really want to know what is the accepted pronunciation. Perhaps the pronunciation you are referring to is Greek?
How the hell I'd Athens that big??? The city takes up almost all of Attica and mist of the Megarid. Where's Decelea??? there are many significant cities missing from the map. Where's Corinth, Delphi, Megera, Pylos???
Rome 2 has more than twice the amount of factions as Attila, the game with the second highest faction count, and yet has FIVE greek ones but hey maybe there'll be a Greek saga game in the future
Ca says this for the patch..Should improve Campaign Map frame rate in the majority of cases for those people with high-end graphics cards combined with mid-range CPUs. Those people who have noted high frame rates in battle but single-figure frame rates during Campaign Map play should see a notable increase in performance. EDIT: In order for these changes to come into effect you must start a new campaign.
the only reason you won the siege of Athens is because of ai incompetence. taking out the Hoplites at the gate would have left you unable to win. you best thank those bots.
Dude you are lucky against towers, when ever I siege, towers wipe out my forces too quickly... I normally have to destroy them if I'm sieging from the sea, even the ones at the gate...
Iv been trying to record this game with obs and i am struggling . I get really choppy fps and cant seem to fix it , i’m running a pretty decent pc so thats not the issue. Any advice?
Its not just this gameplay look at his other gameplays and you will see. I am not saying he is bad player or youtuber I enjoy his videos a lot I am just saying that he sucks at managing economy which is true.
"And after the 3rd year, our 5000 men managed to finish a fourth ladder" - spartan general - outside Athens
i have noticed that even though slingers have good range throwing rocks dosen't kill as much as the javelins
Slinging javelins. Fuck yeah
tristin laue lmao yes
Who is remembering this comment from 7 years ago lol
Oh snap did anyone else notice the Athenians use their shock tactics against Lionheartx10? just like in 300: Rise of an Empire!
I'm sorry to hear that man but that makes me very happy to know that my videos help you! I hope they continue to do so. Glad you enjoy my series :)
4:20 , thanks for understanding :)
ahahaha 4:20 i mean pot
they real quote is "I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep; I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion" for the warrior skill
Lionheart, I have been diagnosed with a form of sever, long term depression. Watching your videos helps so much... Thank you for all the Total War: Rome II videos. I think it's one of your best series yet
How are you now?
Use the 'G' button to group them, and use 'Ctrl+G' for a formation group. If you do a formation group, that unit remains in the formation you put it if you select the whole group. And to zoom in you need to press the 'Insert' button.
just started watching these Lion Heart videos and they are actually really good. Like the productivity with lots of videos, keep it up!
How many of us are ever actually up to par when we first play a new total war version? I remember Medieval total war 2 viking expansion took a while to get used to. Over all I love watching this guy. Its obvious from the British campaign that he's getting better as time goes on.

i wouldnt say the pikemen failed you, i'd say you failed the pikemen with a lack of support. great vid though
"That's Nikon, that's the camera"
It felt like ages waiting for this video lol keep them coming!!
I like how this played out in many ways like the real one, the combo of a naval and land land invasion of Athens.
Love this Sparta series
Pretty sure those extra kills there that you couldn't figure out were from towers. I don't think tower kills count for any faction, only the deaths they cause are tallied on the wrap-up screen.

Pike are best against cavalry. Once enemy infantry get past the points of their pikes, well. the pikes become liabilities rather than assests.
I think the ladders will only appear if you choose the besieging army as the main force, where you attacked with the navy as main force. And by the way you set build queue for three sets of ladders, if I recall correctly each set has 3 ladders in them, so if you had continued the siege you would have had 9 ladders total

The dude that did the music for this game, clearly did his job. I like it more than Rome 1
I think it's hilarious that Cameraman almost caught and killed that Athenian spy, either passively or when she tried to kill him instead.
Canace, "Well, nothing up my sleeve--AHA concealed blade--!"
Nikon: "Whoops, me too!" *stab* "Darn, I missed..."
Tyler! I loved your minecraft let's play you did with The Dougem and Stefman!
that hoplite admiral squad won you the battle awesome ancient S.W.A.T action
Hey Lionheart. The gap in kills in the final count was due to your ship's ramming. Those deaths are counted as environmental and are not attributed to your army.
The extra kills came from those ships you rammed, they don't count as kills I think because they drowned, weren't physically killed by your troops.

Lionheart, it seemed to only be general's bodyguard units that had glitched flags, so it might be a feature of the game to easily identify them.
In game and others have told me its hop-lit-tays listen to the hoplite units when you select them.
Have to say lion just started watching not to long ago and I am quite impressed. Makes me want to go get this game I have Empire total war so I know this game is just as good as you make it out to be :)
The extra kills are probably from the towers, they don't usually count as ''unit'' kills in total wars.
That's why he uses the radious battle mod, it reduces the power of transports, among other things.
For some reason, it seems a little surreal to see the Spartans using the Macedonian phalanx (the Pike Phalanx in this game). Great job on the battle.
I think if you ram a ship it won't count as a kill. The navy of Athens had 177 men and + 30 friendly kills of Athens. So that's why
Could you talk less about patches? The rest of your commentary is great. Thanks.
"We totally powned them!!"
I look forward to these after school.
your intro always makes me think about the game of thrones theme song :p
When you were staring at your pike men dying maybe you should have flanked with your other pike men Just a little advice
I do believe the reason their central reinforcements did not come when you entered the city was because you had the gates 2 towers which in that fight would case them considerable losses (in other words the AI want a complete idiot)
Finish watching Part 4, Part 5 is uploaded.
Sweet.
You can manipulate any agent even if you are "full". You'll just not be able to recruit any extras.
For some reason the camera goes low roughly half the time for me, the other half of the time it gets stuck at this level
Noobie question, what is the end zoom button you was talking about? It does make the zoom in function more staple and the animations look more smooth
Nice dude can't wait to start uploading this to my channel soon
just dont have the funds for them yet but it's something I'll be working on :)
Early in the game they aren't so useful, so many people stop building fleets.
Later on, they can wreck transport fleets.
Pikes should really be used in blocks. Preferably four or more ranks deep. Stringing pikemen out into thin double lines is really against the intention of the weapon.
You should have been focusing on Crete's military and naval build you leave the island wide open for an assault from other factions.
maybe because no one wants it LOL
those "missing kils" are from the towers that you captured
A sling isn't a sling shot, kids don't use slings, they use sling shots. A sling shot has a rubber band which you put the projectile in and fire, laughing at the kid who gets hit in the arm. Men use slings, were you put the projectile into cloth were you swing it around to gain momentum and fire, sending the projectile to crack someones skull open.
Yes I have all the books and DVD box sets :p
Hey Lionheart i have a question concerning the radious battle mod. At the the forum it says "Unpack and put mod into Rome 2 data folder." So my question now is do i have to put the the radious battle mod - folder into that path or only the "Radious_Battle_Mod.pack" data?
Good luck with the battle of athens
Its the towers lionheart, the towers
hey lion heart the seige ladders spawn in front of you, you have to move your troops over to them.... it confused the hell out of me for like my first 5 sieges
Lionheart, Have you ever seen the TV series Richard Sharpe?
I've been playing as Sparta and the first thing I did literally not 5 minutes after i started i took over Athens xD
In English I think "Hop-light" is correct. "Hop-lit-tays" is the original Greek pronunciation instead. So both can used.
Do you have any source for this? I am not doubting you, but I really want to know what is the accepted pronunciation. Perhaps the pronunciation you are referring to is Greek?
Load time I think is being taken care of on the next big patch, personally I just read the game of thrones while the AI takes their turn =P
the onces that didnt die by you got drown by the ships
How the hell I'd Athens that big??? The city takes up almost all of Attica and mist of the Megarid. Where's Decelea???
there are many significant cities missing from the map. Where's Corinth, Delphi, Megera, Pylos???
muh Corinth
Rome 2 has more than twice the amount of factions as Attila, the game with the second highest faction count, and yet has FIVE greek ones
but hey maybe there'll be a Greek saga game in the future
greece on a huge map is to small to include that many cities and also SPARTA IS NOT A TOWN IT WAS A CITY that pissed me off so much
CliffJumper gaming there is Wrath Of Sparta!!!
Ca says this for the patch..Should improve Campaign Map frame rate in the majority of cases for those people with high-end graphics cards combined with mid-range CPUs. Those people who have noted high frame rates in battle but single-figure frame rates during Campaign Map play should see a notable increase in performance.

A Spartan unit Flee from the field? No true Spartan flees :P
Maybe.
***** it was a diguised perioikoi
LOL
that is 80% accurate real Spartans never flee but the Periokoi did
We love you lionheart!
You can hold ond the stars over the generals when you are creating an army to see who is best for the task! Like so he can see!!!!!
Lol fair enough first time this game so I'm not aiming to be good lol. Never been great at melee based TW but I'm getting there :)
I am disappointed there will be no Darthmod for Rome II. I am sure someone will come up with a mod as all encompassing eventually.
the only reason you won the siege of Athens is because of ai incompetence. taking out the Hoplites at the gate would have left you unable to win. you best thank those bots.
He needed their city to complete the province.
Return of the thumbnails!
Dude you are lucky against towers, when ever I siege, towers wipe out my forces too quickly... I normally have to destroy them if I'm sieging from the sea, even the ones at the gate...
lionheart- i really want to destroy you ( evil laugh)
Have you heard of targeting the flanks or rear ?
Iv been trying to record this game with obs and i am struggling . I get really choppy fps and cant seem to fix it , i’m running a pretty decent pc so thats not the issue. Any advice?
you must have a crap pc
Just been reading about next patch says its aimed at stopping lag on campaign map . I don't actually get any lag on campaign map. Just battles. Crap
As a Greek hearing Pe-ri- O - ik -O-i am bleeding from my ears.
Pikemen are for countering Cavalry! not right-out melee. or am i wrong here?
That. Was. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!
U need to press the middle mouse button to get lower i think
Damn that new thumbnail is good
they said the beta patch 1.5 doesn't effect saved games, you have to start a new campaign
U r very good actually
I wish they optimize the load time in between turns
the peloponessios war
the 2nd one
Its not just this gameplay look at his other gameplays and you will see. I am not saying he is bad player or youtuber I enjoy his videos a lot I am just saying that he sucks at managing economy which is true.
Athens is smaller than I thought.
I like all your videos😊
hoplites are pronounced as hoplitae in greece and europe yet it sounds cool
Finally a siege battle with walls !
what settings do u have for your Rome cause mines really foggy and kinda lags and doesn't run as Smith as yours does can u help
does yours work now???
Athenas faithful, every time I saw that I thought it was Athenas failure
When part 5 has more views than part 4.
