I did the same with the L shape but the key is to use the alex drawers only on the outside of each desk, and on the inside to use legs. This way you can move your legs freely without getting interrupted from the drawers
For my daughter's, she has 2 black Alex drawers. But we took 3/4" plywood. Stained it with Purple Semi-transparent Wood stain. Then did a pink and purple epoxy resin on top of that.

How do you get the table tops to not slide? I have the same setup desk-wise with the Alex drawers and a tabletop. I need spacers still but without them the desktop loves sliding around wherever it feels like. Sometimes it moves because I like to sit cross-legged so my knee pushes it. But the main issue is when others come into my room to talk to me. They love leaning on the desktop so it slides everywhere. Do the risers stick to the desktop? Or do you have an issue with it sliding too?

Pretty tall desk. Those drawers are 27.5” tall, another 3-4” for the risers and 2” for table top 😯
Yeah, I have the same drawers and added two inch risers and it was horrible for ergonomics. I got rid of the spacers and now it’s nearly perfect.

You can just add a tubular steel for beam support under the tabletop so you dont have to add a leg in between the drawers.
