Metal wire is a wonderful thing. When you think about metal wire, think about it as thousands of tiny pieces of metal that are gathered together in a wire shape, when you heat it those little tiny pieces separate just a little and the wire becomes soft, so it's easier to bring the coil together when it's formed and heated. Once you put any pressure on it the tiny pieces gather closer and closer together and make the wire harder and it will keep its shape easier. Just by a simple tapping on metal wire it makes it harder. I learned this by working with silver. You heat it to make it soft and pliable and tap it to make it harder. Love working with wire to make jewelry and I know I'll love making these coils once I have more knowledge of the ohms law. Great vid. Thanks.
+Louise Florida while you arent wrong, you aren't completely accurate. You work with non-ferrous metals, which do not need a slow cool down for annealing. Because this is a ferrous metal, Heating this and letting it cool does not anneal it and actually just hardens it. While it is hot, it is very pliable, but when it cools, it is harder than it was before. Good to see another person who enjoys working with metals though :)

For simple black smithing techniques a chisel or a file can be softened with heat if allowed to cool back to room temperature over a 24hr period. Once you finished any cutting or shaping work you can then reheat it and Quench it (dip into oil) once you've Quenched the work piece an external layer of high carbon (pulled from the oil) hardened steel (from the instant cooling) will form around a more malable center allowing a hard piece of steel to have a soft center will make it stronger or less brittle. There's an old worksheet that should be easy to find. Basically tells you what temperatures to heat the work piece too. Then what temperatures to cool to. What rates and times should be applied. Complex prices will require many instances of heating/quenching/cooling

It blows my mind that of ALL the hobbies in the world, you think that building a resistance coil attached to a high output battery and vaporizing chemicals to put in your lungs only to immediately blow it out...is the very definition of simple minded. I am into Saltwater Reef Aquariums, Building and Flying RC Airplanes, flying FPV Drones.....now THOSE are some great hobbies....PLUS I don't have to worry about not being able to breathe on my own when I am in my 50's.

Angela Stoner You need more than just a good tank. You also need a good box mod if you want big plumes. Reliable and accurate box mod is the difference between a big plume and inhaling a lung full of smoke (dry hit from too much heat).

holy CRAP! just wrapped my first diamond coil using 30g kanthal double twisted and man does it chuck vapor and taste great. it came out to 1.2. Soooo AWESOME thanks rip your videos have turned me into a flavor junkie and a coil wrapping fool. never change and keep these crazy builds coming.
I've got this puppy built in my Derringer with 26 gauge, reading at 1 ohm. Firing her on my ipv mini 2 at 17.5Watts. 4 wraps per coil around a piece of 20 gauge kanthal. This thing is great. I wicked differently, but it has provided me with a phenomenal experience. You really don't need/want much cotton at all, on this build. Maybe a millimeter and a half per strand.

Thanks for the vid. This coil rocks! I built a second one last night without the coils used for spacing and I only did a 2/3 wrap instead of a 3/4 wrap like you did. The result for me was a much more compact coil with lower resistance. It's only 1.1ohm w/28g kanthal. Thanks again!!!

A Dual Diamond coil would be tough inside the Kanger Chimney... I'm imagining that you would run out of space but I end up putting my Coil a bit lower to avoid touching the chimney itself. . . So.. Try it out but use a regulated device or Ohm checker to test!

Hey Rip, I have been watching your vids and I decided to upgrade to a nimbus RDA. i'm using an ego vv3 mega with a 1.2 ohm minimum and the stock coils it came with were too low. but with only the knowledge I got from your videos I made a new set from 32 kanthal and hit 1.7 ohms dual coil on the first try just like I wanted. after vaping on that for a month,(same coils) I decided to try the diamond coil. 1.4 ohms and vapin fine. you explain things so well that even a newbie like myself can build coils like a pro. thank you.

Just did this build with nichrome 26g and wow it puts out clouds at 25w! What?! Cracked it to 50w and explosion of vaporous volume. Currently running a 150w deezel and I'm barely able to touch the range of it with this sick build :)
well if your a smoker and want to quit this is the way to do it. But like most of us you need to start with like a 900mha battery with Variable voltage. pick your flavor in the juice you buy and your nicotine count, from 6 grams to 24 grams. throw your cigs away and when ever you want a smoke pick up your Ecig instead. then after you have vaped for a while you can move up to mod's then start building your own coils like Rip here. hope that has helped.

John Hunter With vaping you're smoking flavored liquid that is essentially water vapor. Gives the smoking sensation that is far more addictive than nicotine IMO, and allows you to choose how much nicotine you are ingesting, from none up to 36mg, and more.
Xtal0 vaping is also the only way I see myself quit smoking for good, well, at least for me it is. I've tried other methods like cold turkey, the patch, the gum, etc. but none worked, I may not have been having nicotine cravings, but I craved the act of smoking, (the routine of going outside for breaks at work, while driving, while at parties, etc. The times when cigarettes are at their best, i stumbled on to e-cigarettes and eventually bought a tank setup with a Vamo "mod". I'm new to this world, but in just 2 months of owning a vaping device (month and a half with the gas station e-cig + 2 weeks of the mod+tank setup) I've cut down cigarettes to maybe 3 a day when I'm out and about, and around 1 or 2 if I'm home all day, sometimes none, and I was at a pack a day just a few months ago.

I think it would be interesting if you combined this build with the dual coil, single wire build you've also done. A total of 8 coils in there could end up being pretty cool haha.
I have to say this is by far one of my favorite coils. I've been rocking it for about a week now and love it. The only thing is, this is a pain in the ass to wick. Great build, though.
Just tryd this diamond coil, dual diamond and the flavor is awesome, i was using stove top coils cuz i got the flavor i wanted, i even went as far as making a twisted 26g stove top and the flavor was even better but this diamond coil blows it away!! Might even give a shot at a 26g twisted diamond at some point. Thanks rip!

Hey RiP, I've been watching your videos for a little while now and I'm most interested in these coil builds. I was so intrigued with this build that I spun one up using 26 gauge kanthal, 4 wraps on each micro, and ended up with a 1.2 ohm'r that I can use on my Vamo. Cranked up at 15 watts (triple stacked 18350's to boot) and this beast is amazing. After a 2 second drag it's a cloud maker. Better yet my juices never tasted so fresh and flavorful! First Rip the videos are awesome. Im very new to rebuildables. I am a mechanic and have some electronics experience. I built a diamond coil following your instructions. When I first ohmed it out I was at 5.7 ohms using the 28 wire. I tightened the coils up using a micro torch and the best I could get 3.0 ohms. What am I missing or doing wrong?
That was fun for a challenge to build. The build was actually easy getting the cotton wick through the 2nd nano coil hole on each side however is enough to make someone with little patience throw their atty against the wall and curse it to hell. I used a Helios for the build and it probably would of performed better on a 3 post type of mod like the Atomic. I still prefer dual micro coils any day for all around taste, vapor and amount of juice it can store. BTW Rip I just did a dual coil build from another guys channel using twisted 28g Kanthal with either 7 or 9 wraps per side (I'll have to re-check) using an Omega. The build came in at .22 ohms and is the warmest most flavorful cumulo-nimbus( sp?) cloud producing vape I have ever experienced!
I wouldn't call myself a newbie nor am I advanced but I can make claptons now thanks to you and will be trying this bad ass build for sure. doesn't look toooo difficult but looks can definitely be deceiving

For anyone using 30G Kanthal, I built this in my Kanger T3S and found that if on the lead ends you do 3 wraps and the 2 in betewen you do 2 wraps with the extra wicks he was talking about it vapes well, and comes out to about 1.6ohm flavor taste best for me at about 11 watts!
If you do 12 wraps it comes out to 1.8 ohms or so and it vapes good but with only two wicks it gurgles like crazy and leaks, with the two extra wicks tucked around the back it vapes good at 15 watts and won't gurgle and leak as much( I still recommend that you do a couple good vapes let it cool a sec and so on so it doesn't gurgle and leak from the heat )
I watch your videos and I must say your coils are very nice I have watched others wrap a coil and they don't look as nice as yours what is your approach. I haven't started building my own yet so I watch your videos to learn.

If there were 2 it would be .9 ohms. If there were 4 on the deck, it would be around .45 ohms

Hey Rip, I have been watching your vids and I decided to upgrade to a nimbus RDA. i'm using an ego vv3 mega with a 1.2 ohm minimum and the stock coils it came with were too low. but with only the knowledge I got from your videos I made a new set from 32 kanthal and hit 1.7 ohms dual coil on the first try just like I wanted. after vaping on that for a month,(same coils) I decided to try the diamond coil. 1.4 ohms and vapin fine. you explain things so well that even a newbie like myself can build coils like a pro. thank you.

Just did this build with nichrome 26g and wow it puts out clouds at 25w! What?! Cracked it to 50w and explosion of vaporous volume. Currently running a 150w deezel and I'm barely able to touch the range of it with this sick build :)

well if your a smoker and want to quit this is the way to do it. But like most of us you need to start with like a 900mha battery with Variable voltage. pick your flavor in the juice you buy and your nicotine count, from 6 grams to 24 grams. throw your cigs away and when ever you want a smoke pick up your Ecig instead. then after you have vaped for a while you can move up to mod's then start building your own coils like Rip here. hope that has helped.

Thank you colt. OK so this is an alternative to smoking. I gotta say I've never been into smoking.. just never got how breathing in acrid smoldering weed is supposed to be fun?? That's why I can't smoke pot (almost as bad but at least you get stoned). I guess anything that improves on that must be better for you.

don't know never tried it. i use to smoke 2 packs a day. now none. vaping helped me quit. so now i vape. one day i might not even do that.
John Hunter With vaping you're smoking flavored liquid that is essentially water vapor. Gives the smoking sensation that is far more addictive than nicotine IMO, and allows you to choose how much nicotine you are ingesting, from none up to 36mg, and more.
Xtal0 vaping is also the only way I see myself quit smoking for good, well, at least for me it is. I've tried other methods like cold turkey, the patch, the gum, etc. but none worked, I may not have been having nicotine cravings, but I craved the act of smoking, (the routine of going outside for breaks at work, while driving, while at parties, etc. The times when cigarettes are at their best, i stumbled on to e-cigarettes and eventually bought a tank setup with a Vamo "mod". I'm new to this world, but in just 2 months of owning a vaping device (month and a half with the gas station e-cig + 2 weeks of the mod+tank setup) I've cut down cigarettes to maybe 3 a day when I'm out and about, and around 1 or 2 if I'm home all day, sometimes none, and I was at a pack a day just a few months ago.

I think it would be interesting if you combined this build with the dual coil, single wire build you've also done. A total of 8 coils in there could end up being pretty cool haha.

Just tryd this diamond coil, dual diamond and the flavor is awesome, i was using stove top coils cuz i got the flavor i wanted, i even went as far as making a twisted 26g stove top and the flavor was even better but this diamond coil blows it away!! Might even give a shot at a 26g twisted diamond at some point. Thanks rip!

Hey RiP, I've been watching your videos for a little while now and I'm most interested in these coil builds. I was so intrigued with this build that I spun one up using 26 gauge kanthal, 4 wraps on each micro, and ended up with a 1.2 ohm'r that I can use on my Vamo. Cranked up at 15 watts (triple stacked 18350's to boot) and this beast is amazing. After a 2 second drag it's a cloud maker. Better yet my juices never tasted so fresh and flavorful! First Rip the videos are awesome. Im very new to rebuildables. I am a mechanic and have some electronics experience. I built a diamond coil following your instructions. When I first ohmed it out I was at 5.7 ohms using the 28 wire. I tightened the coils up using a micro torch and the best I could get 3.0 ohms. What am I missing or doing wrong?
That was fun for a challenge to build. The build was actually easy getting the cotton wick through the 2nd nano coil hole on each side however is enough to make someone with little patience throw their atty against the wall and curse it to hell. I used a Helios for the build and it probably would of performed better on a 3 post type of mod like the Atomic. I still prefer dual micro coils any day for all around taste, vapor and amount of juice it can store. BTW Rip I just did a dual coil build from another guys channel using twisted 28g Kanthal with either 7 or 9 wraps per side (I'll have to re-check) using an Omega. The build came in at .22 ohms and is the warmest most flavorful cumulo-nimbus( sp?) cloud producing vape I have ever experienced!

Hey Rip. You should buy a pair of ceramic tweezers and you can squeeze coils while power is on. It's easier to setup micro and nano coils.

For anyone using 30G Kanthal, I built this in my Kanger T3S and found that if on the lead ends you do 3 wraps and the 2 in betewen you do 2 wraps with the extra wicks he was talking about it vapes well, and comes out to about 1.6ohm flavor taste best for me at about 11 watts!
If you do 12 wraps it comes out to 1.8 ohms or so and it vapes good but with only two wicks it gurgles like crazy and leaks, with the two extra wicks tucked around the back it vapes good at 15 watts and won't gurgle and leak as much( I still recommend that you do a couple good vapes let it cool a sec and so on so it doesn't gurgle and leak from the heat )
