    Actually ghrelin UPREGULATES apetite (More ghrelin = more hunger, not the other way around). And leptin does the opposite, makes you feel fuller.

    I've always been light and athletic. But I took a job as a stonemason once, and after the first 2 months of backbreaking work getting used to it etc, my body started to rebel. I suddenly became ravenous about 3-4 times a day. I started to NEED breakfast. And at 10:30am break time, I'd run down the street from our workplace to McDonalds and order 3 BigMacs and 2 cheeseburgers, then at lunch time 1:00PM I'd go back for another BigMac and then across the street to Cooplands and order 4 sausage rolls and 2 apple tarts. Then the second I got home from work a 5:00PM I'd be cooking - starving hungry again.
    I bulked up in that job, gained 25lbs over a few months, ended up being a shredded middleweight.
    Lost it all when the company folded 2 years later and I went back to selling tools.

      Too bad you had to give it up, things have never been better in the trades especially stonework. I have been a stonemason for over 35 years and even though I am in my mid 50s I still eat like a horse because I work 50+ hours a week.

      @@markadler8968 I loved that job. It was daunting at first, I was 11 stone and a peanut, all the fellas in there were huge compared to me. They laughed when they saw me, gave me two weeks! XD
      But I stuck it out, killed myself every day and slept like the dead for two weeks. Then I adjusted, slowly but surely, and my calorie intake went through the roof.
      It was great work but the guy who owned the business was an idiot. A young blond fella, had inherited the firm, and spent all year jetting off around the globe with various dollybirds, always buying new sports cars etc. Didn't care about the business, or buying us new gear or fixing things when they broke down. So just a few years after I started, he had to close. About 11 of us including myself lost our jobs then he locked the gates and sold the yard / vans / etc.
      The nearest outfit doing the same thing was 21 miles away across the bridge. No public transport out there, and I don't drive so, I was gutted. Ended up getting a cushdy (but not so strenuous or creative) job selling tools and materials. It payed the bills, etc.

    I have spent 15 years trying to put on weight and saw this video hoping I would find some new tips.
    Unfortunately I already do all these things. I make exactly the same milkshake 2 times a day, in addition to 3 1500 calorie meals and have done for years.
    I think for some people, we are just wired in slightly different way. My muscle is very dense (as I have been told), and I think just very calorie intensive. At 38, I have now maintained 8% body fat since childhood with virtually no change to body composition except gaining lean muscle mass (6.1 ft tall, 13 stone).
    The only other factor I can think of, which may be responsible for such stable weight, is use of cannabis. Other people I know have similar experience.
    Milkshake or smoothie is a great tip for cramming food/protein. Another is, strained yogurt. Very nutritious, high in protein and aids digestion to. FAGE yoghurt is particularly good.

Keto emphasizes fat, but you can get significant fat on carnivore if you don’t eat lean meats. Meat is part of keto diet, it’s just not restricted to meat.

    Can you explain the 1g/lb of body weight more? They say the average man needs ~2000 calories/day. If I am around 210 (18% fat). 210g protein is 840 calories, assuming you ate only isolate sources, that’s about 933 calories actually consumed (~90% is best I could find for protein powder g protein / g of total consumed). How are you supposed to hit any of your other macro nutrient goals, with only ~1100 calories remaining?

    • @ParkedKar
      @ParkedKar 5 месяцев назад +1

      A general rule of thumb is 1g protein/lb of body weight to gain muscle. The Average man needs 2k Cal’s per day to just live. That’s without any other movement or exercise. If you’re RMR is 2000, if you’re even moderately active you’ll be burning over 3000 in a day total. You just need to plan your meals, know what calories are in each one etc. seems daunting at first but once you get your head around it it just becomes second nature.

    • @Training4Life-q4w
      @Training4Life-q4w 5 месяцев назад +2

      The FDA uses 2000kcal as an average recommended daily intake. Do not use it though. Example, a person who is 6'5" who eats 2000kcal is going to look a lot different than a person who is 4'4" who eats the same. Stick to using your BMR. There are a lot formulas to figuring this out and they all have different outcomes. (but pretty close to each other) I find 10kcal per lbs of body weight to be a pretty good jumping off point. Next is to determine your macro split. This is the split that divides the P/C/F percentages from your total kcal. This depends on your training. A general split would be something like 30/50/20. Then figure your daily activity or exercise kcal expenditure. Lets say it 500kcal. So formula for maintaining BW would be, BMR + activity kcals = daily kcals. So at 210lbs of BW would be 210 x 10 + 500 = 2600. Macro split = 2600 x 30% = 780kcal/195g protein, 2600 x 50% = 1300kcal/325g carb, 2600 x 20% = 520kcal/57g fat.

    The amount of people asserting that you shouldn't consider calories is a little concerning here. It's a simple concept yet they want to say that calories are energy and energy doesn't have mass are kinda missing the point. If you want to manage your weight you can either eat more calories or less calories and your weight will go up or down. It feels like a lot of Bart Kay students here.

      protein for example is rarely used up for energy and is mostly used as building material for your muscles and cells but yet it has 4 calories in it. why is that? protein is also not converted into fat. so thats also wrong.
      most plant material isnt even digested and comes out of your ass. so where do those calories go?
      do you weigh your poop amount and calculate how many calories you pooped out? i guess you dont.
      you are oversimplifying something very complex.
      if you want something simple do mass in, mass out.

    • @andrewzach1921
      @andrewzach1921 5 месяцев назад

      @@snaxximan5737 all you have to do is calculate how much protein you need like Mitch and everyone says. At least 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight. Then split the difference in calories between carbs and fats. A super rough guess for calories is multiply your body weight by 10 and that will be your basic needs for calories. Eat that amount everyday for a week or two, if you lose weight and you don't want to slightly increase the calories across the board and go for another week or two. Keep doing that until you stay at the body weight you want or you look at yourself in the mirror and if you are good then you stay at that level of calories. Or reverse it if you are gaining weight. Our philosophies aren't that different if you think about it, calories and mass are similar but some foods have a lot of calories for their mass.

    • @snaxximan5737
      @snaxximan5737 5 месяцев назад

      What do you actually increase when you say "increase your calories"?
      Are you talking about replacing lettuce with butter or do you mean you eat more food?
      Because if you mean replacing low calorie food with high calorie food then you are not factoring in your metabolism. If you are fat adapted, which everyone should be, you will use fat as energy and not store it. so replacing lettuce with butter in that example will not lead to weight gain.
      plenty of people have proven this calories in, calories out idea wrong by simply adding 3500kcal to their daily diet in form of butter. No additional exercise nothing else. just adding 500g of butter a day to the stuff they normaly eat. and they lost weight.
      Your concept isnt working.

    be lean any you will have all the appetite in the world. Also trick with eating fast is stupid as you will digest food for much longer and you will not be hungry for next meal. You need to chew very good and you will fit more food in your gut and it will digest faster. I have done eating competitions being lean and when I am over 20% bf I do not have appetite.

      Actually no. Competitive eaters are often not fat. They can eat alot all at once, but they aren't eating like that around the clock

    • @BreadTeleporterAndii
      @BreadTeleporterAndii 5 месяцев назад

      @@MC-ep8cu They are still the best at fitting food in their mouth, I am aware they are not fat, that is not because they don't eat a lot but its because they know how to balance their diet perfectly after eating shit tonnes, I would still consider them the best at eating.

    • @MC-ep8cu
      @MC-ep8cu 5 месяцев назад

      @BreadTeleporter002 the claim wasn't who is industry leader at eating most amount of food in a short amount of time or who is best at eating, it was eating the most amount of food over a long period of time.
      Tbf I think they should ask nikado avocado or lizzo. 😆

    • @sw-gz9ps
      @sw-gz9ps 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@MC-ep8cu most competitive eaters do not eat that much for the whole week. This is because having less fat around the stomach is an advantage since it lets the stomach stretch more. Eating massive amounts of food in a day isn't going to get you big, and if you think about it on a weekly basis, then it isnt even a massive amount of food. strongmen definetely eat way more on a consistent basis.
