Hi Janson, thanks for sharing your thoughts, I am just as inconsistent as forty years ago - one has to practice every day, preferably all day long, and I don't believe in my natural talent, although today I know that I have a little of it. I have the privilege of being a complete amateur and playing purely for fun. All the best suavic
Morning Suavic, Thanks for your comment man. I'm noticing a theme in a lot of the comments lately about having fun and I really appreciate it. I think making a living has added a bunch of pressure to it all but it's not even that. Live playing (especially solo) is like driving a car a bit too fast on a dangerous road.. a bit too intense but great afterwards when you didn't die haha.. something like that. Fun is coming though and I know I'll be a much better player when I can chill out and enjoy it more in the moment. Privilege is a perfect word for what I REALLY enjoy most about it all and thats I get to play my own songs to people in cool bars and venues and almost make a living.. like it's SO close.. Thats a hell of a thing, and even if it's small fry compared to the big ol' world out there, it's a big deal to me, certainly more than I ever expected to do. This moment right here may be the peak of my musical accomplishments.. not everyone gets to do this.. even this. I don't forget that when I say it's not fun. As for practice make it easy on yourself man .. Commit to 5 mins a day. Sounds silly but if you use it as a minimum you build the daily habit and you can always play longer.. if you're not feeling it just do the 5 minutes 😁.. Easy P.S. You'll probably never "just do the 5 minutes" 👍
Greetings Jase, I don't mind being on the shortlist of beginner's here. Hey, gotta start somewhere! Just wanted to say...your top three hit home for myself. Rhythm, repertoire and some covers. Anyway won't waffle on...I came here as I'm interested in the Fs3...I watched your 1 year later on your beautiful Fs5. Anyway mate...chin up brother, we just keep moving forward. Subbed...about to watch "A quick look at my current guitars". on your channel. Good playing at your gigs, may the patrons enjoy! Sat arvo now in Bathurst NSW. Have a good weekend.👍 Kindness.
Hey man thanks fro tuning in. Glad you enjoyed it.. You going to get an FS3?.. I haven't played one yet but all reports seem to say they aren't much different to the FS5.. should be a great guitar.
@@JasonMckellMusic ...Hi Jase. Shopping around brother, looking for next year. Not sold on the Fs3 yet. There's an Alvarez I like too. I need to buckle down, and remember your top 3. Good playing the Southern delta.
Hey Jason. Thanks for sharing your experience. I’m still learning, guess we all are in some respect. Totally agree with you. I think almost every teacher I had early on just taught licks, riffs and little bits of songs. I think gets really frustrating. RUclips has been a huge help.
Hi Steve, mate the only guitar thing I can tell you with 100% certainty is there is no end to the learning and improving. No destination just more options, textures and refinement. Thats interesting to hear, I never really had lessons, more pointers here and there so I assumed I just got it all wrong heading down that riffs and licks path on my own. 😁
@@JasonMckellMusic yeah that’s one of the things I love about guitar. There’s always something to learn. I really only had a few bouts of lessons. Most of what I ending up learning was from other musicians and band mates.
Agreed, the whole could’ve, would’ve, should’ve, thing should be shared with others and I appreciate you doing it, Jason. I’d say if you’re picking up a guitar to become famous, you’re picking it up for the wrong reason. Sound advice, brother man 👍🏻
Hi Randy Thanks man.. Totally agree man, thats why the moment I hear that 'you need to do this to get famous".. line from "Expert" (but generally well meaning) friends.. I take a breathe..and just don't say anything... pretty much exactly what. I did in the vid just thinking about it haha.. thanks again man appreciate the feedback.
Great advice, thanks Jason! I enjoy your conversational videos but ... please also post more of your music! One other request, could you make a video on the equipment you have used to play live? Like how do you get your sound from the passive pickup you had in the Yamaha into an amp? Do you need some sort of pre-amp unit in between guitar and amp? I have an FS5 like yours, thinking of adding a passive pickup and using an amp but I am not sure how to do that. Thanks, Bill
Hey man yeah I've tried a few preamps so maybe I'll do a vid on the ones I currently have here and it might help you decide which way to go. They are all a bit different so might be helpful for you guys
G'day, Hey no it didn't happen. It was a great idea but I told the guy about the potential issues sending stuff and additional costs etc.. which I have had in the past and. think I put the guy off. It was aa awesome idea and very generous but possibly not the practical. The last thing I wanted was for that idea to backfire on the guy.

Generosity of spirit like this can help make people better musicians, but more importantly it's an example to makes us better people. Nice one Jason.

Trying to practice more with the metronome. Good advice.
Definitely helps.. I 'm using it every rehearsal these days and noticing a big improvement.
A question. A while ago someone wanted to send you a richwood parlor. Has that story still continued? Greetings from the Netherlands !!!

1% stuff... wasted too much time on that, rather than actually playing...
I still am man..I know better but I still do it.. Still I know it's the grindy stuff which gets results..
