I grew up here and it was normal for me to go and be out late doing stuff with my parents too. My husband also has fond memories of going to eat at late night food specials on the strip and downtown with his mom and step dad.
@@JennyfromDblockMy household is sex positive. A butt in a thong and boobs with pasties aren't shamed around my boys. But maybe you look at things different when you're born and raised in Vegas. I grew up going to shows where are the women barely wore anything. It's just the human body. Nothing to be ashamed of.
We went to a Denny’s at 3 am on the strip years ago and I saw a family with toddlers in strollers. Yes the kids were cranky. I was disgusted with those parents.
My husband and I love Vegas and have visited many times. We brought our teenage son to Vegas once a few yrs back. We went to hockey game, a cirque du Soleil show, and saw the sights on strip (fountains, volcano, etc) only time we gambled was when we stopped at Excalibur so he could go to arcade at same time. He loved all the cool cars he saw driving on the strip. He said he had fun but doesn’t want to come back until he can drink and gamble 😂.. he turned 21 this month and we are bringing him and a buddy back the week before Christmas to celebrate!
You nailed it Ruby! It does seem like the younger Vegas goers are more interested in partying than gambling. Back in the 80s we went to gamble and see big name entertainers or lavish production shows. It's definitely a different vibe now.
This is the main reason hotels and food is more expensive than it used to be. When I was a frequent visitor in the 80's, the vast majority of visitors were there to gamble. I would venture to guess that less than 50% of visitors these days actually gamble to any substantial degree, so they need to make money off of everything else. The days where they could take a loss on food and lodging in order to get you on property to gamble are long past.
I would say that if you’re not going to Vegas to actually spend time with your kids doing kid-friendly things, don’t bring them. Don’t drop them at the arcade and then go play tables or slots. The casinos are not babysitters. Leave them at home with one. I definitely agree on the hotel recommendations for families. Mandalay Bay has the shark reef aquarium alongside the huge pool complex. Definitely kid-friendly. Plus, you don’t have all the craziness of mid-strip at Mandalay Bay
I lived in Las Vegas for many years and a occasionally come back to visit. I've never, ever felt unsafe for one moment. Ruby's cautions about the more run-down areas of Downtown and off-strip are good, but she's right: you're way more likely to get scammed on the street than mugged.
I see kids all over the Strip. Honestly, there is so more than just going to the hotel pool now. Hershey's Factory, M&M World, PinBall Museum, to name a few.
I know everything is more expensive these days, but Vegas is definitely pricey in the restaurant category. Yes, you can go to Denny’s, McDonald’s, or Subway in Vegas, but who wants to eat there on vacation? When you go to a run of the mill Italian restaurant at a Vegas resort and the chicken parm is $37, that is expensive any way you slice it.
Great video Ruby. My wife and I got married in Vegas in 2001. We have gone at least once a year since then, with the exception of a couple, and have never taken our kids until last month. 14 and 16 both boys. It was one of my favorite Vegas trips. We did a lot of things that my wife and I would’ve passed on when we were just by ourselves. The Hoover dam, the Mob Museum , pinball Hall of Fame and omega mart. We stayed on Strip at Caesars Palace and had no problems. Vegas is fun by yourself or with your family. So much to do!!
My dad and I would go to Vegas every year growing up. I loved walking the massive well themed resorts + all the lights and all the nature activities make you feel like your on another planet when your from Florida like me.
Completely agree! I visit Vegas at least twice a year. It used to be only my husband and I for a very long time, for the past 3 years we have taken our son, now 15 with us and we have a lot of fun. We have done many of the activities you mentioned, plus the movies, Dave and Buster’s, the mall and other museums. It is a lot of fun. Definitely don’t take him for a stroll at 11:00 pm!!
Hi Ruby! You hit the nail on the head regarding where to stay with kids. We took our 10-year olds and 12 year old to Las Vegas (it's my husband's home town!) and Mandalay Bay is a great hotel for that. It's got family suites, kid-friendly food nearby, and it's probably quieter than many of the other hotels. My kids loved Omega Mart and Cirque de Soleil. My kids get overwhelmed by loud noises, bright blinking lights, or crowds. So, avoiding the casinos and downtown Fremont Street is really smart advice - it's exactly what we chose to do.
After coming to Vegas for almost 27 years now, I finally visited the Neon Museum last month. I walked there and back twice from Fremont St, once alone and once with friends, and it was absolutely no problem. Yes there are some weird people around but they do nothing to you. So whoever wants to walk 15min to the Neon Museum will be safe!
Back when we lived 8 hours from Vegas we'd used to go almost every summer. I loved going there as a teenager and hit the arcades or just walk around some of the hotels and shops (away from the casinos of course). I have a bigger appreciation for Vegas as an adult but I always had a great time as a minor also
I love your channel! My husband and I travel to Vegas from Tennessee at least 3 times a year. We do come for the gambling, but your channel has shown us so many other things to do during our stay. I always watch your channel, especially leading up to our visit. We will be there next month bringing in the New Year. Would love some suggestions for ringing in the New Year in Vegas. I would also like to chime in on bringing kids to Vegas. Our kids are grown, but I still wouldn’t recommend bringing children for all of the reasons you mentioned. If people do decide to bring their children, they might want to stay at family friendly resorts off strip. I’ve visited Red Rock and it has a movie theater, bowling alley, arcade and nice pool area. Off strip resorts like Red Rock just seem more appropriate for kids . Just my thoughts. Keep up the great work Ruby!
Great picks, Ruby! I agree there’s options for kids at certain places - what I find….odd is when parents are walking around at midnight with small children on The Strip!
One of my all time favorite Vegas restaurants, Hugo's, currently charges $95 for a 10 oz. filet. INSANE! The best steakhouses here in NY charge nowhere near that kind of rate for a steak. Fine dining in Vegas seems overpriced to me at the moment.
Hey Ruby, I’ve been coming to Vegas over 34 years with me and my husband married. We’ve never brought our children background adults. It’s our vacation time. Thank you for all you do.🙏🏼🥰🧘♀️
I've been bringing my son there since he's been born. He's 5 now, and he loves it. My sister does live there, so that's the main reason we go there, but there is so much to do for him. The Discovery Children's Museum is amazing. He loved the Omega Mart at Area 15, the resorts themselves are filled with shopping, and food. The list goes on. We're going in February and staying at the Luxor so he can see the Titanic exhibit because he loves the Titanic. Just so many things! We love going.
I bring my kids to vegas but I make sure we are doing kid friendly activities and staying at hotels that offer things to do with kids. I don’t keep them out late and I watch them like a hawk. I also don’t gamble with them there. It has to be a kid focused trip if you bring them. My opinion on it.
Las Vegas is what you make it! I took my 5 year old and it was very enjoyable. That being said, we stayed at Palms Place off strip, went to restaurants with an early dinner reservation, did the high roller and Mystere (a more kid friendly cirque du soliel), we also came in by 9 pm latest. I don’t drink or gamble, it’s all about being responsible if you do bring your children. And I agree about Fremont not being for children. I’m not taking my mom there either lol.
As a local I love that you covered how safe it is here. It is safer than New York and other huge tourist cities. Really the only thing you have to watch out for here is to not get scammed.
As someone who has family who lives out in Las Vegas, we visit frequently and bring our daughter. When we go, we often get a rental car. We're not having her out walking the strip seeing the things that go on out there, we're not having her go on the casino floor and see what that's all about. We take her to the fun family places directed for children such as the Discovery Children's Museum, the circus, the arcades, or we find the things off strip for her to do to get her energy out so we can leave her with our family for a little bit so they can hang out with her and do the adult stuff. I know not everyone has that luxury, but there's a time and a place for everything, if you're going to bring your kids, maybe take turns hitting the floor.
In canada we would book packages for flight and hotel. Was around 600 and now it is twice that. Then we have resort fees on top of that and 45 dollar resort fee is is over 60 dollars canadian. Then we gamble but to get US money we pay 1.40 for the exchange so it is very expensive for us to come now. Unfortunately. They need to get rid of resort fees
All great comments and suggestions. Been going to Vegas for 35yrs...it was always expensive if you overgambled, overindulged on anything. Different today? Yes...but going out wherever you live is more expensive today. Play it right and Vegas is still a gem! Hi from Wisconsin 🍺 😊
I can confirm that Las Vegas is a family-friendly destination. My family and I have visited Vegas each year since I was 10. As a kid we enjoyed the Mandalay Bay pool and aquarium, the excalibur arcade, the shows, the m&m and coke store.
Vegas is for adults. Even the latest advertising campaign is you can bring your kids to vegas, but why would you. To me it is as simple as value your kids vacation over being selfish. Their are great spots for kids and much more kid friendly locations. If you must go to vegas with kids stay off the strip and fremont. Be in control of kids, if you must bring them. People are going to have a good time. Don’t be pissed at people for doing and saying things your kids shouldn’t hear. You brought them to sin city, that is on you.
My oldest was 10 when I got remarried in Las Vegas. He loved it. We just walked around the strip, he loved all the lights, hover dam and the 2 hour time difference. He loved to tell family he got to stay up 2 hours longer since we are from Chicago.
aloha ruby i agree with you about not having kids in vegas. just the idea of having people drinking to much (guilty of myself) at anytime is a bad thing for kids to be around and see. seen alot of drunk people at all times morning afternoon and especially at night. take the kids to magic mountain, knotts berry farm or disneyland (heard its a ripoff now days). make it a kid freindly trip , keep vegas for the adults.
Ruby always seems so happy in her videos, I’ve been wondering what her secret was. Then when she said she didn’t have kids I was like, there you go. As a parent… so jealous. Lol
Great as usual Ruby! We took our kids (14 & 10) for the first time on our 16th trip! In their words it was one of the best family trips we had been on! Instead of the our regular booze fueled gamble-fest, we took the time to rent a car and see the sites around the greater Vegas area. We also took in Area 15, and exposed them to outlet shopping and a 'hood Walmart. LOL Lots of fun to be had by families if you take to time to research it and want to make the effort! But yes, I can see why people don't bring them and why we didn't until they were older! Coming next week, and they are not joining us!! LOL It Adult Vegas time for us!! Thanks for you fantastic shows!!
I brought my grandson (age 13) to the Pokemon Global Tour and we stayed for two extra days and had a blast. Never went to Fremont although I have gone on. my own with friends at other times. We easily could have stayed longer!
I’ve been going to Vegas since I was 8 with my parents (now in my early 30s). There is so much for kids of all ages to do on the strip and for those adults where partying and gambling are not their priority. I’ve shocked so many people with how young I was my 1st time, but they soon get it when I explain how much there is to do there that people just don’t think about
My husband and I bring our small kids to Vegas. But we stay at Mandalay Bay and we do kid friendly things. I’m the only gambler in the family. I gamble at 6am while they are asleep and then we spend the day by the pool or at the aquarium. We get food from restaurants and bring it back to our room. Watching your channel is how I figured out the best resort for us to stay in.
Vegas regular and parent: We often use Vegas as our positioning flight from our local airport to get to other places more cheaply because it's one of 3 direct options. This is the only situation where I've brought my daughter, but we've had a ton of fun! I've also been to Vegas on work trips before my daughter was born and brought my husband, those are also times I would bring her if that came up again. There are a hundred different reasons to be in Vegas, debauchery is only like 75 of them. That being said, I absolutely agree that there are more kid-friendly places and less kid-friendly ones and there are definitely parents who ruin it for the rest of us, which could be said of any activity. There are Disney parents who let their kids run around like hellions and ruin it for everyone else. There's kids at my local restaurants who don't act right, that's on them. If you're even questioning whether it is reasonable to bring your kids (i.e. you've thought about it for more than a second), you're probably going to do it in a responsible way. I would also not recommend bringing kids for the adult's first Vegas experience. If you don't know what you're all getting into, it's much more likely you'll find yourselves in an inappropriate place. Fremont is not kid-appropriate. I would say some strip properties are less kid-appropriate as they have a more party-centric vibe even if they aren't strictly 18+ (Linq, Cosmopolitan come to mind). But most properties will have some kids at the pools, you'll see strollers, there will be families around. I think it also helps that where we live has small casino sections in most restaurants. So she's used to some games being for adults and some being for kids.
What happened to the 1.00 breakfast Buffett or the 2.00 Steak dinner? How about the .99 cent shrimp cocktail. Next thing they will be no more free drinks!!!
Spot on about children on Fremont Street! I don’t know what astounds me more, the adult behavior or children witnessing it. I might add another myth to bust, that it’s 100° always, year round. In the winter in can get very windy and cold, sometimes down into the 30°s.
I feel safer in Vegas than I do in my neighborhood. I live in Dallas & was carjacked right in front of my apartment! Some people get too drunk & are no longer aware of their surroundings.
I am from the UK and only get back once every couple of years. We are not high rollers but use a loyalty card, charge to the room etc. I am coming in February for 5 nights ,4 are comped , I am only paying $50 for 5 nights at NYNY, I also have $200 resort credit and $125 free play. It can be expensive but if you are aware of what you can get , you can do it on a tight budget
Making Vegas family friendly is a bit like making a trip to Disney World adults only.. plan ahead, find your spots for interesting things, stay open to possibilities, wear comfortable shoes, and take time for naps or breaks when they are needed. I highly recommend The Pinball Hall of Fame and Area 15 for those traveling to Vegas with slightly older kids.
Yes Vegas is to expensive from one spectrum to the other. You cannot deny that. I’m a little old school where they used to give us lots of things to come and gamble their everything they gave us to keep the gambler happy anymore they just take the service is terrible at all the casinos in less you were heavy tipper you will not get a cocktail waitress, coming back more than one time.
Yes, Vegas has gotten expensive, we used to come mid week and get the MGM Grand for under $100 with resort fees and free parking. In the past 15 years, rooms have doubled, parking is $20 a night, rental cars have doubled and no I won’t play 6:5 Blackjack.
Hi Ruby! My wife and I have been coming to Las Vegas for 20 years now and stay (most of the time) at my in-laws' house just outside of Summerlin on West Cheyenne by the 215 Freeway. Lots to do even if we don't go to the strip. In Summerlin alone we're already entertained! Never got into any trouble whatsoever, even when we're on the strip or downtown. To us, Vegas is a big resort and we always look forward to our next trip there!
Can we please have ONE town without kids everywhere. A couple years ago we stayed at the Cosmo in July. We went to the pool to cool off and it was wall to wall kids. WTF? I came to Vegas to be an adult not a f’ing babysitter.
Great advice. Hilton Grand Gardens is really nice right on the strip. Timeshare apartments rented out via hotel nights. No casino, amazing pools, excellent family friendly food. Right on the strip near Circus Circus. Kids can safely, hang out in the apartment. Ruby, and Jacob have a video on great low budget food deals in las vegas. Lots of people watching, snacks, pools, and bus rides for families. Plan your day to include cool, quiet, naps.... Remember kids are no fun when their hot, tired, and exhausted. I love Vegas 😍.
Have you done a video about The Cromwell? We wanna know more about the property for our trip next April! Love the videos so much! We used many tips this year when we went! ❤
Las Vegas has recently started advertising again to "leave your kids at home" and I agree. There are so many kid specific destinations out there. Save Las Vegas for when they grow up
Im a born and raised local and must be numb. Seeing women in gstrings and pasties in shows and on billboards was just the norm. My kids have been downtown and on the strip when we have friends in town and they always have fun. Not everyone comes to Vegas to drink and gamble. So I say bring the kids and enjoy yourself. My kids have some awesome memories and I do too from my childhood.
I agree there is a narrative that Las Vegas is super expensive nowadays and it is not if you plan ahead and plan your trip accordingly. However, people are comparing Las Vegas when the food and the drinks were subsidized. You would see buffets all over for $15-$25 tops. I think that’s why people have this perception.
Vegas was a lot better when you could get awesome deals on hotels, cheap buffets and play blackjack for $5 or even less per hand. And when there were no screaming kids around.
I would like to see someone do a video on something in Vegas other than Gambling, shows, and the strip...for example does Vegas have a library, hospitals, parks, factories. and other interesting things like that. I know they are trying to make Vegas much more then just gambling...with Football, WNBA Basketball and soon Baseball which I like to see. But I like to see the normal side of life in Vegas for once.....
Once you get off The Strip, Vegas is just like any other city. Well, outside of all the slot machines everywhere. We have everything any other city has.. schools, libraries, strip malls, movie theaters, hospitals, colleges, all the boring every day life items. My life now isn't much different than my life back in Michigan 18 years ago... it just has much less snow and the city buses are more reliable. The normal side of Vegas is.. normal.
I agree Vegas is a good value compared to other destinations in the US, but that doesn't mean its affordable or that there isn't significant gouging going on.
Looking good Ruby !!! Fresh and reverent look. Very classy. I think this is the first time I’ve seen you do a video like this! Keep up the good work! We all love Ruby ❤❤❤ Have an excellent thanksgiving next week. :-)
Hi ruby I'm from Australia I love Vegas but I don't drink or really gamble. My mum and I came here a few year ago we stayed at Trump hotel it's my favorite and only one ill stay at. One because it doesn't have a casino so less foot traffic, the rooms a beautiful standard room you get a mini kitchen with fridge stove microwave ect free bottles of water the bathroom is huge jetted tub separate shower and toilet. I walk across the street to the fashion show mall which is about a 30 second walk to the ABC shop grab cereal, milk, sandwiches, fruit, drinks and snacks to save money. I pre booked shows the grand canyon back in Australia so it was all paid for before I got there, so all we had to do was pay for food, souvenirs ect out of our cash we had a limit a day of $120 and never spent that in fact I brought money home. We had one good meal out a day and that's were the sandwiches came in handy for dinner and I think a fridge is necessary for my hotel stay. My mum drunk a lot of coffee and tea hotel had a coffee machine and a kettle saved money. We may have put max $50 in the slots the whole trip won and bought a nice dinner with winnings. We were in Vegas for 7 days loved every minute. As I uselly come middle of October will have to change it due to formula one. Thanks ruby for this video I just want to tell people travelling from other countries you can do Vegas on a budget as us aussies did it.🇦🇺❤
Circus Circus is good for kids too (assuming that’s why you stood in front of it to cover that topic). As you perfectly mentioned: Be smart about your visit. If you’re bringing your kids, do your research (which includes Ruby’s great videos!!), and plan what you want to do with them.
I travel Solo a lot and I have never felt unsafe in Vegas, I stay within the tourists areas during day and in or around resort I'm staying in at night.
when we go once a year we usually have our car...I love to go "exploring"...one of my nicest "finds" was a fish fry at a local Catholic church...got to visit with locals and it was very fun.
Fabulous video ❤ I visited LV in September, had a brilliant time but was super surprised that a lot of food outlets on the Strip i.e California Kitchen closed pretty early (8pm) - kind of at odds with the 24hr vibe Vegas seems to have. Was pleasantly surprised how safe the Strip felt.
I went to Vegas a lot as a kid (with my parents, of course). I have plenty of fond memories. The only problem is that my younger brother and I were competing against the slot machines for our parents attention, and many times, the slots won. This would often lead to my brother and I being stuck in the hotel room with a pizza and some candy, traveling no further than the ice machine to grab a soda. And maybe, if we were good, my dad would take us to the Midway at Circus Circus for a couple of hours on the last day of the trip. So I say bring kids if you wish, but ONLY if you will actually pay attention to the kids and not get caught up in the gambling. Consider bringing a grandparent/nanny if you predict you'll be gambling a bit.
On the keep kids in kid friendly areas comment, I won't name the property, but I was playing slots and witnessed a mother had started playing her young children with her. They were younger and it was not an underage gambling situation, but I did see security respond and inform her they needed to be removed from the floor. (I will also say they were behaved and did not a bother to anyone, so it is not disruption that demanded immediate response, but I would estimate she was only 3 spins in before being addressed. Most places I have been outside NV there is security stops to reach the floor. This was not floor security, but someone directly from the observation room had come out, so it was that much more striking to observe. Be aware that yes, your children may be welcome on a property, and while they may be able to walk through gaming areas, they can't linger on the gaming floor and people are always watching even when you can't see them.
Could not agree more about no little kids in Down Town! I'm no prude but even I was shocked at all the nudity etc. It's a very racy place there - I loved it but seeing folks with little kids there ESPECIALLY at night really shocked me.
We are coming from the Uk in 2 weeks and only paid £650 for flight and MGM Grand hotel, we paid that back in 2005. So good price, I know food is more but that’s the same over here too.

I moved here in 2017 and I can assure you the cost of stuff has gone way up. Yes, it is expensive to visit and to live.
2:55 It's dishonest to show this screen of rock-bottom rates without acknowledging resort fees
Yes, a video on fun, non-touristy areas (off Strip, off Fremont) would be great!
I grew up going to Fremont st and they are some of my most favorite memories
I was blown away with the number of young kids, 10-14 years old maybe, running around all over Vegas without adult supervision!
Vegas used to be an amazing bargain, now Vegas is an absolute ripoff
Word of wisdom.
Art districts is great! We love "The Container Park"!
Thank you @TravelRuby, when I go to vegas in March , I will sit my ass down at the Palms and be safe lol
Ruby always seems so happy in her videos, I’ve been wondering what her secret was. Then when she said she didn’t have kids I was like, there you go. As a parent… so jealous. Lol
Can confirm arts district has amazing spots
Love the shopping in Vegas
Very nicely done Ruby, we just left Vegas last weekend and had a blast we referred back to your videos for ideas
I dont agree with Las Vegas not being expensive,we visit from the UK,and have noticed a big difference.Having said that,it's the same everywhere..
This is my favorite kind of video, informative, and without the slots.
I would love for you to do a video on things to do off the strip! Love your videos!
I always love the slow jam beats in these videos.
To bad the 24 hour buffet pass isn't around. That was a good deal and money saver.
Yes, Vegas has gotten expensive, we used to come mid week and get the MGM Grand for under $100 with resort fees and free parking. In the past 15 years, rooms have doubled, parking is $20 a night, rental cars have doubled and no I won’t play 6:5 Blackjack.
Highly recommend The Good Wolf which is a boutique store in the Arts District. Friends of mine own it and are super friendly and locals!
Hi Ruby! I am on my 4th day here with my toddler and we are having a great time. It all depends on where you go and what you do. 😊
Hi Ruby!!! I’m going for the Holidays 🎄 Can you talk about where to have a nice Christmas dinner and where to party(nightclubs)??
Greetings ❤
Thank you Ruby !! Coming to Vegas In March! Your videos are always the best !! 🎰😎
If you walk with your kids down the strip, they will encounter card slappers
Can we please have ONE town without kids everywhere. A couple years ago we stayed at the Cosmo in July. We went to the pool to cool off and it was wall to wall kids. WTF? I came to Vegas to be an adult not a f’ing babysitter.
in a word, NO....
Thanks Ruby... Vegas also has a great children's museum in DTLV!
Las Vegas has recently started advertising again to "leave your kids at home" and I agree. There are so many kid specific destinations out there. Save Las Vegas for when they grow up
Love me some Las Vegas Arts District!
"Too expensive." Only the flight. 😂 book direct and don't eat near the strip.
Also, I don't think little kids should be near the adult areas at all. Too much smoke, swearing, and nudity like you said.
Thanks for another awesome video. Please do a video on Vegas Specialty tours. Adam's a great guy and has lots of Vegas history on his tour. Thanks!!!!
Very informative video!
Thanks ruby for this video I just want to tell people travelling from other countries you can do Vegas on a budget as us aussies did it.🇦🇺❤
New Ruby video a good Friday indeed
The Vegas area has tons of museums and historical sites. I did a whole week there just taking in history and museums.
As always GREAT VIDEO 😎👍✨
I’m sorry Ruby Vegas is expensive!
You always have great tips. Love watching your videos. 🍀 🍀
Not Chicago ! Oh my was there last spring and we heard guns shots at night from open Balcony
Consider bringing a grandparent/nanny if you predict you'll be gambling a bit.
i don't thin Vegas is very safe. We had our vehicle broken into at the start in valet parking. the strat didn't give two hoots.
Spot on!
If you don’t have common sense, you don’t need to leave your house 😂
Downtown is not old Las Vegas! Yes it's where the hotels started but with all the revitalization I wouldn't call it old.
Ruby I truly love all your videos your so informative and fun to watch Thank you
Could not agree more about no little kids in Down Town!
We took our kids at the age of 8 and 13 and they loved it, one of their favourite holidays.
Hey, I’m going back to Vegas for EDC Las Vegas and I want to see other things in the strip. Are you gonna make a video on the local things?
I agree 1000 percent with everything you talk about, keep up the great work!!
