One decade (you say the 1950s) of power and wealth doesn’t make an empire!… Besides, the U.S. was created from the British Empire so it’s part of the new world!… Now was far as America being less powerful now compared to the 1950s, blame the left in the U.S. who believe capitalism & democracy are bad and America is the evil empire!
They can't do that because the money is a freshly printed money that will be exchanged for internasional debt from other countries. They are basically making money by offering debt, some kind of money laundry practice.
I was homeless in Portland oregon for 2 months in 2006. I met this older man who was drifting and he claimed he was a teacher. He told me to read about the fall of the Roman empire. He told me that America was going to collapse.
Both times I was homeless I had a job but couldn't afford housing. I'm well to do now but I remember it well. If you make minimum wage, good chance you'll live on the streets.
True, but some have lasted longer than others. The Romans and Ottomans lasted hundreds of years. We've barely made it 100 years as an international contender so far.
I helped my daughter raise her three kids, and we took them out of school early on, homeschooled all three. They finished in a private highschool, and all three graduated with honors. Proud to say we did the right thing.
I was born in 1967. My father worked a full time job, and supported the whole family, and our mother was a housewife. We weren’t rich by any means, but we lived in a nice little house. I had an awesome childhood!! In today’s America, it takes both parents working 12-15 hours a day, just to stay afloat. The middle class neighborhoods in my town, look very run down.. I think because people don’t have the money, or time to properly maintain their property. People don’t dress very nice, and the majority of them look absolutely worn out! America is in the process of throwing all morals out the window. Most children are being raised by single mothers, or come and go live in boyfriends/girlfriends. I personally believe, that we as a country, will soon see the middle class disappear. There will only be the very poor, and the very wealthy. I feel sorry for my 26 year old son, he will never have the life I had..
I was born in 1975 prematurely with ongoing health issues. My late mother was a stay at home mom. My late father told her no one was going to raise their children like them. Society fed my working class parents the narrative of having children brought happiness which didn't come. I grew up poor and hated every second because I was bullied for being born poor. I don't wish to bring children into a country that believes that way.
@@ShawnBen, I am sorry to hear that. People didn't know better, and bullying was commonplace. Maybe your parents were bullied and normalized bullying behaviors since no one feels its wrong.
I read somewhere that a gas station attendant in the 1950s could support his family and pay the mortgage on his single salary. Think about that for a moment.
when I was young, we had two keys to our family car. One of those keys stayed in the ignition switch, all the time. Communist & savages are killing Amerika
This is the end result of Greed. All the other countries in the world, protect their country's manufacturing base, and other businesses, that produce products that can be sold abroad. Our politicians took money though lobbyist to help facilitate companies moving to cheaper labor countries, to help them make bigger profits. By moving their company's out of the US, and then ship the products back here to be sold. Those jobs that were lost, were all union jobs at one time. That's how now you just see a shell of what our cities used to be.
@Arvin ant Agreed. Look at all the European and Asian countries, they don't allow their major employing companies to move their factories out, to third world countries, and then ship back home the products. It's as simple as that, some call it protectionism. Right now though the greed for profits, most of all America's goods are assembled in a fake communist country, China, who's whole economy relies on trade with what's left of America. When it collapses, there will be war, and we'll have a climate change, it's will be a nuclear winter that will last for decades.

My mother was born in 1954. She died in 2019. Before she passed away she commented on the big changes she has seen take place with this country. She described the world is a waste land. She kind of made me feel like she was happy that she may be passing on soon. I’m still here.

What I see now is squalor, despair and the formerly great cities as cesspools of crime and human misery. I feel sorry for the young people of today who have to cope with such a dysfunctional society.
@Jose Ortiz In the 50s & 60s when I was there it wasn't so bad. I lived in apartments near Wrigley Field, Lincoln Park, Rogers Park and other neighborhoods on the North side near the lake. These were low income, white working class neighborhoods where you had to grow up being street smart and tough, otherwise you'd be fair game for the bullies. When I look at these neighborhoods now on Google Earth I can see that the physical and economic conditions have deteriorated badly, so I'm sure that crime and violence are more of a problem.

"Our prisons are empty" My dude, our country has built more for-profit prisons than hospitals in the last decade. Indeed our country is in decline, but mass incarceration is a key factor in that decline.
Peruvian here. When I was a kid I used to think the US was paradise on earth, and that It would be cool to contribute to its development. As I grew up, I learned more and more about the dark secrets of the US, and changed my mind. Americans digged their own grave.
Not all Americans wanted empire. My people haven't wanted anything but isolation for decades well back to before WW2. America used to be a self reliant economy that fell victim to globalism. It cost us quality of life and it's going to be the end of our civilization .
In 1972, I worked in a factory for three months. It gave me enough money to pay for one year of private college and a seven year old Volkswagen. My daughter, in 2010, by working in an amusement park (which was the only real work around), could not pay for one semester of school, let alone a used car.
America had it good when they produced the goods and the other countries had to deal with our economy. Now its a global economy and manufacturing goes to the cheapest bidder. We import more than we make. Now we have smarter business's with a need for a smaller workforce. Jobs that pay enough to support a family are disappearing. You have college students with degrees that cost them 200k and less opportunities to pay them back. People get out of school and want to become CEO's overnight. The American Dream is dead and you have to be asleep to believe in it. George Carlin RIP
Someone has to enlighten you about George Carlin and that someone is I. You don't think that George lived a fine, wealthy life? He made lots of money bashing the society that enriched him. He had the best of medical care...do you? He associated with the monied and socially connected. You are beguiled by the bull shit spewed by the Hollywood types. George did live the dream....he just wasn't man enough to be grateful for what he had and chose to scorn the nation that enriched him. A common flaw of the american elite......
Could not agree with you more. There is no easy answer to cheap labor overseas. Those of us here in the US are, at some point, going to just have to suck it up. We can't compete if we expect to $20 dollars an hour and a guy in Vietnam only requires $2 a day. We have been living "high on the hog" since WW1. Those days are coming to an end.
@Ed530, the rich billionaires disagree with your assessments! Just during Trump’s presidency alone we have added over 100 billionaires to the billionaires list that are now reaching 748 and counting! And the billionaires that were already billionaires have more than doubled their wealth thanks to Trump’s tax cuts, loopholes for the billionaires, and the deregulations that helped the billionaires save money from having to follow rules and clean up after the mess that their companies were making! Together these billionaires now hold more wealth than the bottom 68% of the US’s population!
@@grandwonder5858 That's wonderful. I am not saying money is not flowing. I am saying the average person is worse off. Are you a billionaire penchant???
And jealousy of those that have more is more destructive than people that come up with new ideas and make big money. Many people that are making good money are doing it because they are good at something and enjoy what they are doing. It is a myth that most people that became wealthy did so by taking from to those that have nothing because the fact is people are compensated on the value of what they have to offer as far as filling a need or desire of others. There are many businesses that thrive on the bad decisions of others like Uber Eats and Door Dash.😊

As a merchant mariner first time I landed in the U.S. in 1963, I found it a great country bursting with prosperity. After that, I visited the U.S. many times over the years and found it going down in poverty and despair. Ghettos, ghost towns and slums are cropping up all over, and the crime rate is high. America of 1963 does not exist.
I don't envy the people who remember some America that seems fantastical and childishly idealistic. American life now is defined by an increasingly short meaningless existence defined by shallow, brutish, and often sociopathic pragmatism in pursuit of pointless idolatry (generally greed). The American nightmare
Our great country is collapsing. Small towns big cities. Are we becoming a third world nation. You may ask why. Look into the past countries that failed. Refocus on small communities and watch the explosion of growth. Job creativity in smaller communities. Humbly my observation. Not a red or blue problem but a community problem. Local.
I was born in the USSR and witnessed the collapse of the soviet empire. Every time I visit the US these days (and I spent quite a lot of time there) I have a feeling of deja vu. When the soviet empire collapsed the setting was undoubtedly different but in the essense, problems were quite similar.

In 1982 in my neck of the woods on Long Island a pair of Turk brothers took an abandoned Flying 'A' gas station, put a lot of sweat equity into it, renamed it Rallye Gas and after 8 months of upgrading opened up for business. Their prices were just slightly less than almost all the other stations, but the big difference was that they stayed open from 5:30 AM to Midnight each day 7 days a week. Their success helped improve the appearance of the service station. After 4 years of being in business successfully and now part of the neighborhood. One day the younger brother was on duty, when about 10:00 PM a man pumped his own gas at the self serve Island then went inside and instead of paying, plunged a knife into the stomach of the younger brother and cleaned out the register. He ran to his car and jumped into it to run, but forgot to remove the nozzle from his cars gas filler and ripped the hose off just as a Police car passed. The PD hesitated just long enough to see the Younger brother run out of his door, holding a bloodied hand to his stomach and pointing to the car wildly. The PD took chase and called in other PD's. The robber in a panic miles away, dumped the car near some woods and ran just as several other PD's arrived moments after the chase ended. (An ambulance and another PD had been called to the gas station and transported the Turk to the hospital). The robber turned out to be an illegal entry Cuban. He was cornered in the woods and the PD found both the knife and the stolen money on him. At first the Turk didn't want to press charges as he and his brother were also illegal aliens who'd overstayed their passport's time limit. They were offered immunity to testify in court, so the stabbed brother testified in court against the Cuban. Unknown to the Brothers but their immunity ended when the trial concluded. The Cuban got 11 years in prison and was sent away. Within a month of the trial's end, Immigration came knocking on the Turk's door and within 4 months both were deported. The gas station was never resold and soo became more derelict than when it was taken over by the Turks. The immediate neighborhood around the service station became victimized by intoxicated and drugged up individuals who used the abandoned place as a shelter.

Brilliant man. Our country is a disaster and people feel hopeless and helpless today. Too much division and fighting between politicians who should be bringing us together
The politicians aren't there to bring us together but to pick us apart and conquer us. It's when Americans realize that the whole political and ecnoomic system has been fixed against them (the Democrats and Republicans and their masters) that I think would bring us together.
It’s not just the US. It’s the same in Canada. I’m in my 60s. The Canada I grew up in is unrecognizable to what we see today. Political parties had differing opinions, but at least they seemed to be paddling in the same direction nevertheless back then. My Dad never finished high school, punched a time clock in a factory and managed to buy a house whose purchase price was equal to one year’s salary. He fed our family on one income; my Mother was a stay-at-home Mom. One generation later, my wife and I bought a house similar to what my parents bought, but it was equal to three years of our combined salaries. We’re both university educated with good white-collar jobs, and it takes both our salaries to get by. We never had any children, but my nephews and nieces cannot hope to become homeowners, and are relegated to a lifetime of renting apartments and living paycheque to paycheque. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see a trend. It’s even worse for my great-nephews and nieces.
Same here, And every day the federal and provincial governments look for new ways to take over economic activity. Only they are 1/10th as efficient at doing so - so taxes consume and ever growing portion of our earnings. We need a new nation - separated from big government - anti-white and anti chrisitians from all those who hate us. This is the only workable solution.
Abraham Lincoln said it best..."We don't have to worry about our country collapsing due to outside powers or forces...it will collapse from within" and he seems to be correct! Reading about Rome, Greece, etc...those are a blueprint for what is happening now. I believe we are witnessing this very thing. I would love to be wrong...but the reality is upon us and our behavior and morality will certainly bring us down...we are headed in that direction.
All true. America is being dismantled right before our eyes by a corrupt political party and others. Most have sold out to foreign powers including some high ranking military leaders if the people don't wake up and see what's happening then we've lost our country. It up to all people of the US whether we keep it or loose it...
One of the most pivotal changes is the cultural change that happened with corporations in the 80,90 and now. It used to be that you could work in one corporation for most of your life and that corporation took care of you and your family. Corporation even paid for your kids to go to college. They help with mortgages, cars etc. The corporation was loyal to its workforce and workforce loyal to it. Then big change was when corporations became beholden to their shareholders rather than their employees. Once that happened, it became easy to ship jobs outside. The erosion of the middle class followed soon after. Now you have a huge disparity between rich and poor because more of the middle class became poor. Poverty is a cancer, once it takes hold it grows. Efforts to deal with poverty have failed. These failures make the remaining middleclass and the rich resist paying taxes because they know how funds get squandered. The cure is to take money out of politics. Once u do that, politics because about ideas rather than greed. Then scale back on the military spending big time. The other thing is to change how the US advances it’s influence in the world. Look at China in Africa. They go to Africa and build stuff and teach the Africans and win them over not through bullets and brutality.
I agree with all of your views but have one point to make. Corporations have always been beholden to their shareholders. The truth is that all businesses are there to make money. Not computers, domestic appliances, cars, services, etc. The old paternalistic relationship with employees is long gone, never to return.
70% of corporations left the USA altogether...either through NAFTA where they split and went to mexico and canada or just outright left for china or taiwan. On top of that, we used to have immigration laws that were enforced, you had to support yourself if you came here, etc. Now we have 2.5M refugees, bettween 13-20M illegal aliens viaing for the affordable housing our 37.2M americans in poverty need. They also split available funding for support, food, education, etc which is leaving our poor in worse conditions than previously...simply is no afforable housing to shelter twice the number of people. etc. Poor policy, not a crumbling country...just REALLY bad policy
@O2kai A, but we still have the biggest military spending in the entire world! Still over 1000 overseas military bases in the world and still spend more on our military than the next 28 countries combined! Aren’t we just bad a$$es with our military might?
Insane levels of income inequality and a senseless war on drugs with harsher sentencing certainly hasn't helped. With increased desperation people become angrier and more polarized with each generation.
Thats what happen in Ancient Rome. All those wars and the wealth went to the elite. The gap between rich and poor increased just like in America. Ancient Rome dealt with inflation problems by social welfare programmes.
The part about polarised and divided politics is so true. It's becoming a problem here in the UK as well. I'm a centrist, I always have been. I believe a society needs a balance of Conservative and Liberal policies to function properly. Yet there's no political party to represent me anymore. It's becoming impossible to debate politics in a civilised adult way. You have to pick a side, left or right. It really pisses me off.
I thought the UK had the option of many parties besides the main two? The USA really needs more than 2 parties to moderate the zero sum game of the GOP and Dems.
Thomas Jefferson said "If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.” ( And the Federal Reserve is a private Bank )

Those have to begin from very young, because there's so much self righteous opinions on others, that completely forget to look at ownselves first. Such good families? Really? As far as I know, too many bad example Dads, and Moms just putting up with it all or pretending that it wasn't happening, or somehow really fooled by husbands. Nothing has changed. I visited Russia just after the collapse in 1992 and the similarities with the US today are startling. A feeling that there is a criminal element that is operating and maybe even running things. We took a train overnight on a ten day tour and the tour operator provided an armed escort on the train for our group! The other thing that was incredible was the complete loss of value of the ruble at the time. We were able to travel on the famed Moscow metro for a couple of Kopeks which amounted to several cents. The loss of liberties today in the US thanks to the Patriot Act, we've regressed to a form of what the Soviet Union used to be. Incredible.

I do not think the word “entitled” is the accurate way of portraying the reality of being a Gen Z in America. When will older generations acknowledge that our salaries have not kept up with inflation! 45-50k in the 80s,90s and even early 00s just ain’t what it used to be adjusted for todays dollars. I think it’s fair to say that individuals have grown plum tired breaking their backs off the sweat of their brows for 40+ hours per week and not having anything to show for it, like basic necessities (affordable housing, cars, college and other things younger generations aren’t afforded with like our parents, grandparents and great grandparents). After taxes, rent, student debt there’s nothing left to save let alone live a COMFORTABLE lifestyle. Let’s go back to more on the job training for white/blue collar jobs instead of requiring Masters degrees that require a CRAP load of debt just to make 40-50k per year, with a 2-3% annual raise IF YOU’RE lucky!!
The older folks would have never paid 1000,00 for a cell phone. They wouldn’t have three different streaming services and satellite tv. They wouldn’t buy 5.00 cups of coffee and they wouldn’t use doordash . They wouldn’t buy 5.00 energy drinks and take vacations every year. A big difference is, they knew they needed to save money and they did without “frivolous” things. They didn’t drive new cars or have credit cards and they lived within their means. It’s not popular now, but that doesn’t make it any less true.
Entropy happens when things go from a state of order to a state of disorder. It takes more energy and effort to restore order than it takes to destroy it. This is true for both raw eggs and human societies. It's going to take a massive effort to fix what's wrong with America. 😭
@@analyticalhabitrails9857 What's the difference between the old system and the original system? Personally, my preferred system is the one where all people are created equal and everyone minds their own business, they're responsible for their actions, and they don't abdicate their part in taking care of those in need to the government.
As a portuguese, we "conquered" the world, and now some people don't even know our existence, even geographically. Don't worry to much about pride and all, worry about keeping the country stable for everyone. That's how I see it.
@@xxo-deathshot-oxx2047 The Portuguese were everywhere. Sugar in Brazil, spice trade in the Indian ocean and they had colonies in East Indies and China.
The decline,it seems, started in the 1960s due to a series of terrible policy decisions by those elected to look out for our best interests, who instead chose to look out for themselves.
I love how he says get your kids out of public schools. I couldnt agree more because of what my 2nd grader would come home and tell me I was shocked. Thank you for posting this video.
If anything, it's to protect them from shootings. It's interesting that they were few and far between (despite people having guns) and now it's just an everyday thing. As I kid, my mother used Thurston Shooting as a guideline for red flags to look for as a kid (which I ironically ended up living right down the street from Thurston High when we moved here from Arizona) and I in turn used that to prevent a shooting when I was a senior. Now it's like every other day I hear about a shooting.
The original purpose of the school system was to teach people to read so that they could read the Bible. 3 John 1:4 - I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
True, I took mine out, my daughter came out the first day of middle school and cried, that girls were having u know what at the bk of the school and were selling “edibles” I went to the school to talk to them and they said “this is normal” 👀🧐 not for me who was raised in the Caribbean no way no ma’am
I was born in 1956. I'm saddened that my generation is the last one that will be able to choose what type of life to live. We were able to plan what we wanted to achieve. Work an extra job for a down payment then get back to raising your family. What was considered as temporary is now a necessity. Someone else is raising your kid, and the whole country is walking around exhausted and bitter.
People think money equals happiness. Money is hard to make. Drugs equal instant gratification and require virtually no work to use. Everyone has got it all wrong. Media is to blame. Bad parenting is to blame. Greed is to blame. We have ourselves to blame. Sorry people but life is hard if you make it hard. It gets easier when you slow down, need less, be thankful for as much as possible and help any and everyone you can in any way you can. Turn off and tune out and return to your families and neighbors. Good luck
I agree with much of what you have said, but the way things are many people and parents do not make enough in one job to afford the basics of food, shelter and clothing to turn off and tune out and focus on their families. However you are correct for those that can afford to do it and stop over working to afford luxuries.
When we put a man made idea( money) above all including humanity ,we are doomed to fail . Corporate Greed is killing our world .Destroying us all . What happens to one eventually trickles down and affects everyone .
and when you think about it, probably a handful of wealthy people hold majority of currency is the entire country. Greedy corp owners make billions but doesnt want to pay minimum wage to its workers.

I was working in New York City when the Supreme Court agreed with the ACLU that the mentally ill were being "warehoused" and didn't need to be in the mental hospitals. We ended up with 40,000 of these people sleeping everywhere, in the subways, the trains, on the sidewalks and the stoops of the private homes in Midtown. One guy would sit all day on the steps of the Paine family's Brownstone wrapped in a blanket and occasionally running up to a passerby screaming F--k you at them. He would disappear occasionally and return with a fresh crew cut and blanket. I figured the police must have picked him up on a complaint and taken him to Bellvue Hospital. He finally disappeared when he ran up to someone and beat them with a piece of 2X4. The city went to a lot of trouble to find halfway houses for them to live in. There they would receive their medications and some spending money from their disability checks. They hired people to manage the houses and dispense the money and pills. Many of them stopped living in them. It was too restricting and so they slept in the streets and pan handled. The empty hospitals were torn down because they were from the 19th century and cost too much to maintain. There was no place to take them to except the police stations and city hospitals which would treat their wounds, give them some meds and turn them loose on the street again. Yeah, the ACLU and the Supreme Court really improved their lives. I want to add this story. There was a guy who lived on the subway grating off Madison Avenue and 25th Street. He had made a tent for himself of plastic. Every time a train passes there is a rush of warm air from underground so he was OK except in the most severe weather. Parking on that street was limited to 2 hours. The Meter Maids would mark the time on a tire. When she came back if you were over she'd leave you a summons. For a fee this guy would feed the meter and wash the time off of your tire. I don't know what he charged but considering that parking was at least $15 to $20 a day he would be worth half of that. I'm sure he did pretty good at it
Too much time for Brandon to do so much more damage to our country. But I’m terrified with that cackling hyena in the number two spot. Let’s Go Brandon.
@@rogersmith7396 Really? You know but won't admit it, it's the people on benefits who are spending OUR tax dollars. I spent a number of years working in the "better" neighborhoods in the South Bronx , Miami and Charlotte as a telephone repairman. We have more service problems in the bad neighborhoods than any other part of the cities. In the 1960s we had a lot of old phone cable that was insulated with paper and covered with a lead jacket. Thieves would use an ax to chop the cable from the poles and sell it for scrap metal. They didn't care how many people were put out of service. You don't see that any more because the cable is covered in PVC and the junk yards don't want it. Plus, the company's name is embossed to the company's name. The same with the copper wire the power company uses. I worked at a an apartment and spoke with a woman who had grown up in that Welfare complex and got an apartment of her own when she had a baby. Her mother still lives in the old apartment. And her daughter got an apartment of her own when she got pregnant. That's four generations of women in one Welfare complex. When I worked in the South Bronx I would see women throwing tissues with money and a note out of the window to bet on the numbers when the collector came by. I understand Spanish. I picked it up growing up in Miami, and The South Bronx. I also lived Puerto Rico for four years when I was in the Navy. I listened to a woman selling her food stamps for 50 cents on the dollar to the store owner. I watched another woman who wanted a beer and a pack of cigarettes buy a few cases of water with her food stamps, pour all the water out on the ground and then take all the bottles back for the 5 cents per bottle deposit and use the money to get what she wanted. I watched and listened as a store owner ring up two packs of fresh chicken parts for one rotisserie chicken. At that time you couldn't use food stamps to buy prepared foods. And you know what? I've seen this done in my own family. I have 7 younger siblings. All the girls were pregnant before they were married. Then they collected food stamps, section eight housing vouchers and free medical care. And now some of their children are doing the same game. It's not Republicans not paying enough taxes as you believe it is the freeloaders sucking every dime out of the governments to pay for their irresponsible behavior. It's Union contracts that favor the unions' demands so the members can fork over money to their favorite politician. How many millions of dollars went to the Democrats when Obama put GM into a packaged bankruptcy, wiped out the stockholders and suppliers and saved the overpaid GM workers' jobs so they could contribute heavily to the Democrat Party? At least Republicans are spending their own money. They're mostly Middle Class people who work hard to support the Welfare State who may have grown up poor but motivated to rise up from their humble beginnings. I know one of them. ME! Until I retired I worked 63 hour a week for Ma Bell as a repairman. I worked every every bit of overtime offered. My wife and I saved to put our son through college so he could graduate debt free. My wife paid for college by cleaning rooms at the Jersey Shore, busing tables at the college cafeteria and cleaning lab animal cages. And me? I didn't finish high school. I was working too many hours. I got a GED while I was in the Navy for four years. You are so misinformed as to who is destroying this country. It's not the Middle Class Republicans. It's you!
That's the shame of it, it became "cost too much to maintain" it was cheaper to let these people roam the streets to care for themselves . Some of the laws governing the mentally ill and the institutions were draconian and cruel but instead of " throwing the baby out with the bath water" because it was too much trouble, too costly, etc why not improve the system, not just discard/abandon it with no decent replacement. And yet the US is spending and has spent billions of dollars in its oversea wars most of which have failed, are failing or turned to dust.
Nick you are doing important work. Just wanted to share that the one remnant of the middle class that people are still hanging onto is their car. People are living in terrible housing and decaying cities but they still have decent vehicles parked on those streets. When those start disappearing, that will be another significant indicator.
At the beginning of the last century with the advent of the affordable Model-T, the car companies bought up the trolley companies and paved over the tracks. Then we were enticed to move out to the suburbs which were developed with the car in mind. Of course big oil was a player in this as well. Now a new car can easily cost over $40,000 and you have to have one. The American people have been had.
Exactly! I laughed at that comment. USA's foreign policy of interventionism is just a subtle way of colonizing. They got to influence third world countries to exploit their natural resources, without annexing them and absorbing the cost of taking care of another nation. Now China is doing the same, and are more financially and morally stable. The USA is destroying itself from within and reaping what they sow.
I think you nailed it. I understand why I am the way I am. I long for the old days. You said: we were wholesome and motivated. Everything was good and expanding. The sky was the limit. Now everything is rotten rubbish.
Thank you Nick Johnson for bring attention to the most functional requirements of a free society. It's not actually stupidity - although I daresay those doing this are SO short sighted in their arrogance, although they believe they will be well rewarded for their efforts...What's happening to us has been planned and carried out by very wicked people who are manipulated by supernatural evil, who are extremely greedy for wealth and power, and who want their Great Reset and a world govt with one world ruler. What's happening to us was ALL PLANNED and ruthlessly executed in the interest of the mass world control Utopia that the few Elitists who are behind the drastic collapse believe they will have when the dust settles. The USA would not have gone this direction without careful planning and execution and the huge amount of wealth spent to bring us to this point. The reign of Antichrist - that's where this is all headed. They have spent decades putting the right puppets in the right places... Now they think they're closed to winning, and I would say they are... But they have no clue what's coming to them in the end...

You always have a great video Nick, but none made me teary like this one. Deep sadness in my heart. My Mom emigrated here in the early 80’s, and she speaks highly of America. I finally came here to get married 7 years ago, and I saw a different America. I would tell my husband, “I should have come sooner” cause now, I am a witness to its decline. Still, there are lots of people who are in denial of whats really going on. Even from other countries, from my country. My friends and family can’t believe when I share them what’s really going on. And yes, the main stream media and Hollywood have something to do about it. All those lies and cover ups. Sad, really sad. Let’s keep praying for America.
@@NatsNiche I've been around since 1940 and believe America started going down hill when we started putting women and minorities in our government and other governments around the world. today it's got so that a minority has to have a certain job even if they have no qualifications at all.. In many cities, the infrastructure has not changed for 50 years and is falling into disrepair, but there is no money for a new one, since everything is spent on foreign policy. At the same time, the richest Americans are getting richer due to production exported to Asia, while the poorest and middle class are getting poorer.
I agree that in order for this nation to prosper, both sides of the spectrum need to be able to communicate with one another, make logical decisions, and simply work together despite their differences. Not a lot of Americans understand how to have a debate using logic, rationale, or evidence. We don’t reflect on why people have different beliefs or take the time to hear them out. Everyone is too busy screaming and yelling at each other and no one is listening.
This country has definitely tanked. Hard to see it really recovering with all the corruption we face now. At least it used to be just the government and now it has permeated every facet of life. Good times! 🙄
It was not just you who sank, but the whole west. It had to come to light once. But you still don't know what kind of country you live in that is not yours. Who knows how it will be solved and possibly a total disaster. The American people work and have worked too much compared to the rest of the world and you have become a country of poor people, dissatisfied people, a lot of narcotics, crime and an unsafe country.
No country reaches the level of the first world without approaching equality in people's quality of life, but as in anyone's life, it is not enough to achieve something because the most difficult thing is to maintain what has been conquered. And, in my humble opinion, the United States of America needs to look to the poor, give them hope and, above all, the confidence to restructure. Márcio from Brazil.

I always wondered why ppl wanted to come here. I hear of ppl who come here to get out of their dangerous country only to get murdered here. It's very sad but there are many dangerous places that ppl are fleeing. The US is no different.
Honestly, I was born here and I feel that is a problem too. I know there are already so many gun restrictions yet I feel like there are many contributions to gun violence; Problems with family, Cultural issues, Debt, Political extremists, etc. I don’t know the solution to fix all this because taking away guns won’t fix it (because guns can still be smuggled or constructed). I feel people need to be armed to defend themselves in America these days. Our main issue here is morality, I hope get good leaders elected everywhere around the country to try and solve this mess.
Guns? All the issues usa has and you say Guns? Strict G. Control won't drastically drop homicide rate because ppl are corrupt and savages in general. That's just the modern USA for you...
This is not only happening to the US but the whole world is crumbling due to the mismanagement and folly of the political and financial elite. Another great video by Nick Johnson. Judging by some of the comments posted here no matter how bad things get there are plenty of people that will deny it, are oblivious to it, or make excuses for it. There is an old saying; "A democracy gets the government it deserves". So I guess we have arrived. We are entering the downfall that we all predicted, it's just that it arrived sooner than most of us expected. * Keep up the great reporting Nick! *
@Jeremie M Good point Jeremie! I cant help but wonder if (or when) we will hit that point of no return. But you are correct! There is indeed a point at which our downfall (into a thousand years of darkness as Reagan explained) is inevitable. The number of Americans that despise America is pretty frightening too, but that discussion is for another day.
We need to remember why we're a Constitutional Republic. The difference between us and a democracy is in a democratic country, the majority rules. In our Constitutional Republic, the rights of the individual is protected FROM the majority. We can still get back to what's great about America. Yet, it will not happen until we stop marching, lock step, with this two party stranglehold.

I would say the number one problem what hurt American the most, and you did touch on this, was along about 1980 or so, the mentality of looking out for number one. You only care about yourself and forget everybody else.. In the old days, the spirit was just the opposite, of where we're all in this together and we help each other along. There was love then. Today, love has been completely forced out of the picture. Today's people have no knowledge, no concept whatsoever, of love. Love of any kind. We live in a world today without love. That's the main problem. People don't care about each other, they way they once did.
This is sad but true! I'm not wired like most people my age because I still care so much about other people and should know better by now that isn't going to be reciprocal. I'm sorry. I'm 47 and I remember right before I started school this was true, the love and consideration of our fellow human beings. I don't know how to combat the selfishness and how not to keep getting rolled over on by people whose abundance and prosperity I might appear to be in the path of.
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years. Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage”. Alexander Fraser Tytler - (1747 - 1813) Professor of Universal History, and Greek and Roman Antiquities - University of Edinburgh
Yes. We used to number 1 in nearly every important area. Now we're like number 10 in many areas and even worse in others (like honest government). I wrote a book on this subject called "End of the Empire" by Mike Burns.
Constructive Criticism: LOTS WRONG in this video. Many Assertions and Assumptions and even things outright wrong, like that the Democrats are moving more left. No, honey, its well-documented they move RIGHT. This is well-documented by everyone who ever talked about the Rachet-Effect, a main-factor in the USA suffering. Do you... even know what the Rachet-Effect is?
Sadly, I agree with most of what's been presented here. I was a black girl who grew up middle class in the 60s-70s. My mom, a teacher, stayed home until I was 5 years old and then returned to work. My dad was a social worker. I lived in a majority black neighborhood for most of my childhood because we were subjected to redlining but despite that, our neighborhood was safe, our schools were good, families had moms and dads, and everything seemed to be moving in the right direction. Kids of my generation were the beneficiaries of the Cold War and we had science, mathematics, and technology poured into us. Girls had more opportunities than ever before. My brother and I went to the best STEM high schools in the city. However, most of my peers left the old neighborhood during the CRACK epidemic for a better environment to raise their kids. The result has been fewer prosperous predominantly black neighborhoods in major metro cities. They were lost to crack, then gentrified. They exist in pockets across the country -- primarily in suburbs. I honestly don't know what the answers are anymore. Aside from GREED, it makes no sense that the US would build up a generation of kids who would rise above the shoulders of their parents, grandparents, etc. -- who were given a great public school education -- only for the industrialists to turn that knowledge over to other countries. The story of shipping chickens to China for plucking and preparing for sale in the US tells it all. Is that true? Someone is getting rich and it's a shame. We don't produce anything. We're a nation of consumers of high-priced nonsense. We're clout-chasers who live vicariously through celebrities and social media while other countries are building real things. Great images of transportation in other countries, btw. I've watched your videos and I'm shocked by what's happening with homelessness in California and the abandonment of towns and industry in the Midwest. Politically, I try not to be polarized. I did get a chuckle from the quote at 29:00 "We want you to have a safety net but not a hammock." Maybe we need to have public works programs (CCC, WPA, etc) again -- especially for younger people who are adrift. Great video. Thanks.
You're spot on with the CRACK Epidemic that Reagan purposely created to decimate communities. Im a Black American as well and was born in 89. Growing up i was able to see the end of unity, community events, morals, etc. We had gas station owners in the community, neighbor had monkeys and other types of animals for kids to play with, block parties, family reunions yearly, Dad worked long hours, mom stayed at home, schools motivated us to read by giving free pizza hut during the book it program for each 5 books read out loud, boy scouts, African drums, library events. I can go on and on.
So much of what you said about the current state of America, is applicable and relevant to Britain. I also feel that the western world is falling apart in general terms. Minority groups are having too big an influence on governments. Where is it leading to?
I moved from the East coast to eureka, California and I was in culture shock in my own country. I visited Germany and Switzerland a few years ago and I felt safer and more comfortable in those countries than my own country, ESPECIALLY CALIFORNIA!!
I was surprised to learn that Eureka (and Humboldt County in general) has one of the highest crime rates in California. I always imagined it as a relatively safe, laid-back kind of place, maybe because of its remote location. Evidently I was wrong.
@L124P I would argue its more expensive in switzerland if you look absolute cost. Thing is theres a strong social system in Switzerland and most of Europe, if you fall you dont fall as deep and have a chance to recover. There are always people who don't but way way fewer than in the US.
Our weekly groceries went up by a $100 from last week. I split the grocery bill in half with my mom and we each paid $240 so a total of $480. Last week we both spent $200 and we got the same amount of stuff. We were already in a recession, Mark my words another Great Depression in upon us. I give us 1-3 more years until that happens...
What are you buying that it costs you and your mom $480 for food? It costs my husband and I less than $250 for a month's worth of groceries. We're on Low-Fodmap/Keto diets that are still healthy and none of our doctors are calling us unhealthy.
Well, after a decade of $1-2, maybe $3 of annual increases in my social security, last year it went up $50 and this year over $150. Thank you all you US voters who allowed the venom aimed at Pres. Trump and went with biden. One thing is certain, my 50 year belief that Nixon is the worst president ever sure came to a quick end in 2021.
In 1981 President Ronald Reagan, who had made major efforts during his Governorship to reduce funding and enlistment for California mental institutions, pushed a political effort through the U.S. Congress to repeal most of MHSA. The MHSA was considered landmark legislation in mental health care policy.
I wouldn't say the 1950's was as great as people say it was. Most of the issues just weren't publicized. Now we're suffering the co sequences of sweeping all those issues under the rug
I think it is funny when Nick asked "Why didn't they have Mexico do it?", which is a TOTALLY REASONABLE QUESTION and the response was basically "I don't know." Those previous generations would just avoid questions and finding solutions because they didn't see it directly benefitting them.
Of course, that is classic boomer mentality. Just learn how to do something to the point where you can make it pay the bills, and then stop giving zero fucks about doing the right thing.

That was the most real America. America despised empires but after WW2 became one itself and expanded its central government. America wasn't meant to be big government and top dog in the world. It was supposed to be a place for free thinkers and small government. This is why America is socially falling apart as the two branches of government are pitting us against one another.

The middle class have been in a steady decline since the 1980's.
I was born in 1975 prematurely with ongoing health issues. My late mother was a stay at home mom. My late father told her no one was going to raise their children like them. I don't wish to bring children into a country that believes that way.

This is the end result of Greed. All the other countries in the world, protect their country's manufacturing base, and other businesses, that produce products that can be sold abroad. Our politicians took money though lobbyist to help facilitate companies moving to cheaper labor countries, to help them make bigger profits. @Arvin ant Agreed. It's as simple as that, some call it protectionism. Right now though the greed for profits, most of all America's goods are assembled in a fake communist country, China, who's whole economy relies on trade with what's left of America.

I am surprised there was no mention of NAFTA the beginning of the end what all of our jobs went to China
Then the wanting to get married to someone since high school. I just wasn't raised with the same mindset, because what does it take to catch husbands in high school? It's not going to be just holding hands the whole time. I just find it all so backwards mentality, in both issues I'm addressing, and if it is about women that way, it is about men. The other thing that was incredible was the complete loss of value of the ruble at the time. We were able to travel on the famed Moscow metro for a couple of Kopeks which amounted to several cents.

@@olddave4833 wow! What a shitty belief.
@@olddave4833 you are the reason why the US is in decline.
In many cities, the infrastructure has not changed for 50 years and is falling into disrepair, but there is no money for a new one, since everything is spent on foreign policy. At the same time, the richest Americans are getting richer due to production exported to Asia, while the poorest and middle class are getting poorer.
It a cycle that continue to get worse and worse until the day something (or someone) snaps and an uprising is triggered because of it.
Big corporations run this country and the world
This country has definitely tanked. Hard to see it really recovering with all the corruption we face now. At least it used to be just the government and now it has permeated every facet of life. Good times! 🙄
The saddest part is watching poor people fight with other poor people.

As a black man born in the 70s , this is how I have always seen America. I do it think certain events of the 80s sent us further down this path
I’ve been living here for 10 years and I’ve been having incredible anxiety lately from the last election, the pandemic, and the recent mass shootings. Just the idea that people are walking around with guns and they can shoot others at any time gives me goosebumps. Thinking about leaving for good.
I always wondered why ppl wanted to come here. I hear of ppl who come here to get out of their dangerous country only to get murdered here. It's very sad but there are many dangerous places that ppl are fleeing. The US is no different.
Honestly, I was born here and I feel that is a problem too. I know there are already so many gun restrictions yet I feel like there are many contributions to gun violence;
Problems with family, Cultural issues, Debt, Political extremists, etc.

There is an old saying; "A democracy gets the government it deserves".
So I guess we have arrived. We are entering the downfall that we all predicted, it's just that it arrived sooner than most of us expected.

So true.

Thanks for showing the truth. Been like this for decades. You have to blame the Government who cater to the rich instead of our own poor.
I blame the rich who have hijacked our government, not the government itself.
Not to forget society over years voting in these muppets to “govern” them.

Thanks.
Gonna need you to stop lying now
Indeed , we are consumer units . The car industry made it that way. Thats what's destroying humans souls.
Redlining is a myth used to impugn creamcheese people. Which is very common.
I think you made sense.

I would definitely feel safer in Switzerland, from what I hear. Norway, where I did visit, was so much safer than almost all of the USA.

The country was still united by the cause of WW2.
I think it is funny when Nick asked "Why didn't they have Mexico do it?", which is a TOTALLY REASONABLE QUESTION and the response was basically "I don't know."
Those previous generations would just avoid questions and finding solutions because they didn't see it directly benefitting them.

That was the most real America. America despised empires but after WW2 became one itself and expanded its central government. America wasn't meant to be big government and top dog in the world. It was supposed to be a place for free thinkers and small government. This is why America is socially falling apart as the two branches of government are pitting us against one another.
