It is hateful and transphobic because the point of being trans is that you want to be a member of the opposite gender assigned to you at birth. So, a trans man for example always being called a trans man is still differentiated from a cis man lingustically, that's the problem

"Basic" being a keyword here. You lot, presented with any scientific theory more advanced than man= peepee women= vajeejay, will crumble. Basic biology, basic thinking.
Yes, and that’s basic biology from like 5th grade but advanced biology teaches differently. I'm pretty sure it just means that she's saying "trans women being included on international women's day means that society is saying 'real' women don't matter"
Ugh, I hating getting into transphobe-translation mode, but it's important to explain this garbage. Alright, so among Rowling's (and other transphobes') latest things to get annoyed about is gender-neutral language. There was an article in some publication that talked about "people who menstruate." The article was about access to menstrual products. Rowling put out a tweet implying that there's already a word for that, it's "women." Apparently completely ignoring that "women" and "people who menstruate" are obviously not synonyms, and they actually did literally mean "people who menstruate." I think Jamie has a video about that. The wrong-headed idea Rowling gets from this is that the word "woman" is being erased. This is patently nonsense, but the transphobes can't understand that. So now you get nonsensical jokes where she implies that the word "woman" is going to be erased from other places. And the joke doesn't make sense at all to a normal person (you) whose brain isn't hopped up on transphobic nonsense.
@@Dolirn yeah, I figured it out because Jamie said it's transphobic. If I just saw it without any explanation I would be confused because it doesn't make any sense 😂

Definition of woman: adult human female. Definition of female: of or denoting the sex that can bear offspring or produce eggs, distinguished biologically by the production of gametes (ova) that can be fertilized by male gametes. So based on these definitions, saying that “trans women are women” simply is not true. It literally goes against the definition of what a woman is and therefore is a statement of falsehood. This isnt about me hating anyone. It is simply about what is true. I dont know why this is so hard for people to grasp. It depends what you're going for. The statement "trans women are women" can hold up when using "woman" to mean gender, but it cannot hold up when using "woman" to mean sex. How is it hateful and transphobic to say that trans women are not women? I’m a woman and trans women don’t have the same experiences as us, but that does not mean i hate trans people ffs. I just think that it invalidates women by saying that trans women who have never experienced periods , and other oppressions imposed on women, are women. Btw, trans people throughout history have had it hard and have fought for the label trans, ages ago trans ppl were called derogatory things, so I don’t think it’s transphobic to say trans ppl r trans ppl.
Lol how is saying trans women are women invalidating your experience? How does that take away anything from you?
I can’t believe you’re reducing yourself to your biology.
Biology is only part of the experience, as per the reference to periods. So you had to do your precious reducing yourself, lol.
Just so you could have a cheap fake excuse for dismissing concerns.
This is an argument for keeping trans out of women's spaces. They just don't get women, or care.
It is hateful and transphobic because the point of being trans is that you want to be a member of the opposite gender assigned to you at birth.

It's not complicated; she's afraid of something internal that she's not facing. The transphobia would vanish if she put the work in to address her internal fears and do something to move forward.
Facing fears takes attention, effort, and courage to move forward in a better way. Making trans women an external enemy is the easy way out; which is why transphobes/homophobes are so common.

Yes, and that’s basic biology from like 5th grade but advanced biology teaches differently. I think that's the point. Being vague about it gives her a layer of plausible deniability among people who aren't really aware of her transphobia or trans issues in general. The only people who can tell what she means are transphobes and those who already hate her. It's a dog-whistle, basically.

"Woman = adult human female.
Female = of or denoting the sex that can bear offspring or produce eggs, distinguished biologically by the production of gametes (ova) that can be fertilized by male gametes."
Trans women are men.
A woman is not something you can "identify" as. It's not a feeling. It's not a lifestyle. It's definitely not a costume that can be worn (one should be free to wear whatever they want, though). If you keep insisting that trans women are women, you're gonna have to tell us what a 'woman' is.
It depends what you're going for. "Gender" has been deemed to be a separate term from "Sex", where "gender" is generally accepted to refer to a social phenomenon, and "Sex" is used to refer to a biological phenomenon.
The statement "trans women are women" can hold up when using "woman" to mean gender, but it cannot hold up when using "woman" to mean sex. The reason why this argument has not, and will not resolve is because the same word is being to mean two different things. Thusly, I would recommend the trans movement find new words to describe the categories which fall under the new phenomenon known as gender, so that everybody can stop getting annoyed about the overt attempts the movement is making to seize control of discourse.
No, because they enjoy being the victim.
“Woman” is not a sex. “Female” is

My point is if they want to use the sentence "Trans Women are women" they should make up another word for what they mean when they say "women" instead of trying to rob the word from normal people then calling us bigoted for not liking what theyre doing.
Hi
As Vaush said to her, "you don't get to play the victim card while actively fighting against women's rights. Trans women are raped and killed in men's spaces and you want to keep them there because of your trauma. Stop using your feelings for others oppression."
The wording may be slightly different, but that's the gist.
I always say that I'd really like to see how they react if their hypothetical perverts start pretending they're trans *men* to get into the women's bathrooms after bathroom bill shenanigans, or what their answer would be if crime rates against trans women would increase as a result of such a policy.
@@kazikek2674 To the latter, they wouldn't care because to TERFs, a man beating up a trans woman for being trans is just either a man beating up a man or a man beating up a predator. They don't see us as human and don't believe "transgenderism" (for lack of a better word) is even a real thing.
@@sluttyMapleSyrup Honestly, as a man, even if I was still in my conservative phase or my centrist+transmedicalist phase, I'd never consider TERFs worth banding up with or as allies. @@sluttyMapleSyrup but thats why the term ‘women/mother’ is so inclusive anyway. It doesnt render anyone down to a physiological function eg menstruating/birthing person which a lot of women find to be a lot more offensive. We should definitely be inclusive of transppl but not at the cost where we need to erode other identities for ‘convenience’. Those identities are empowering for a lot of ppl out there and they dont feel empowered being referred to as ‘menstruating/birthing ppl.’ Maybe we could say women/mothers + other birthing/menstruating ppl who dont identify as women?

Yeah, I feel like the world and characters have become so much more than just books that she wrote and taken on a life of their own almost because of how many people have added their creativity and imagenation into making art and fan fics and all kinds of stuff. It's become a world that so many people imagened that they would feel safe or be able to solve issues that they struggled with in real life. Then her toxic attitudes and her behaviour with things like this has gone and spoiled that for a lot of people.
I feel similar to you in that I really love Harry Potter, and also Fantastic Beasts, but I don't really want to actively support her either. I really think I preferred the days before twitter when our favourite authors and screen writers didn't have much of a public platform and all we really knew about them was the short 'about the author' page in the back of the books. Even movies can generally be found for free somewhere. It's just a shame that we feel like we have to wait until we find something second hand or look for non-official stuff etc, and for many people their ability to enjoy any of it at all has been tarnished because they can't enjoy the Harry Potter world without being reminded of the way that J K Rowling herself makes them feel. In all seriousness, that’s not how this works. Separating the art from the artist doesn’t erase the bigoted bs that’s _in_ the art, like Rita “grotesquely mannish woman whose modus operandi is to disguise herself so she can invade the private spaces of children and creep on them” Skeeter or the fact that all the werewolves are AIDS metaphors and all but one of them are literal child predators who want to infect every child ever with their “disease” (Remus Lupin is the only exception and even in his case it reads more as him just being “one of the good ones”). And this is without mentioning the antisemitism (the goblins), the slavery apologia (house elves), racism (Cho Chang and her two last names; the fact that one of the few black characters was named “Shacklebolt”, etc.), abuse apologia (the Dursleys treatment of Harry borders on being comic relief), the body shaming _mostly_ towards fat people but honestly going in all directions (lots of fat characters being framed as gross villains or dopey comic relief-Neville only gets to be badass after becoming skinny, Molly’s the only exception I can think of and also one of the few characters I genuinely can’t criticize)… the list goes on.
How do we separate the art from the artist with all of that? Serious question I really do want an answer. Because Rowling’s bigotry has ALWAYS colored her writing. The books have ALWAYS contained her bigotry and hatred. We somehow failed to see all the red flags-the POC, LGBTQ+ community and Jewish people have long been pointing out said red flags and how did the Potterheads react? By harassing and bullying them.
HP was always bigoted and bad. Maybe it’s time to let go.
