This is a VOCS car. A Volvo Concessionaires Car. As a Volvo Salesman (1988-1996) I bought a lot of these, and knocked them on. FUD was a common suffix.
I was a door to door canvaser in london, and clapham common 28 years ago , knocked on Jermeny clarksons door, he had a quick chat , and he had a t5 turbo estate ! that was his wifes, genuine story .

In Canada, Volvo marketed the Volvo 850 Turbo to police forces. Considering the regular version cost just $45K new back then, I was shocked they offered to buy the cars for $30K after several years of service. IIRC, I think the Volvo rep said they offered that money cause they were so confident in it's ability.
Hi Geoff, Just some anorak observations but if you look at the photo at 7:41 you can see a couple of police 850's with the registration N***FUD the same as your blue one. Makes you wonder if this car had some sort of police service when it was new. I wonder if Steve will move this car on when he's finished with it? 20v manual estates are rare and I'd have this all day if it became available, even with no interior.
I grew up riding motorcycles in and around Pompey in the 80s and 90s. When the picture of the 240 came up I had a real “oh shit I’m going to get pulled!” moment! :-) I’ve just bought a BMWK100. I got pulled by a couple of those too… :-) A few years ago I had a 20v 850 and it was brilliant. I only got rid of it because I found a ‘99 V70 T5 with 100k on the clock.
There used to be one of those round my area (east lancs) but it had dogs in the back, people used to call it the barking rocket. About the police not modifying there vehicles the SPG had a van leyland daf sherpa 400 would do over a 100 on the motorway with 12 bobbys in ,but it would not go round corners had a V8 in it.
I used to have a 20v manual S70 in the same colour, the engine is a little bit wheezy in such a heavy car but I reckon they sound better than the T5. That interior is in great condition considering the mileage!
I brought and ran an 850 2.5 10v estate for a couple of years ago. Paid £350 for it, was pink and had a sagging headliner. Was absolutely solid other than that. Had to sell it on because I needed a diesel for work (sounded brilliant but was awful on fuel). Found out that it has been scraped unfortunately by the next owner 😢 Silver linings though as I now own an 850 saloon t5 manual, with a forged engine, bigger holset turbo, 4 pot front brakes and many other parts 😊
Worth noting, early obd1 850 t5 had reverse ic, conical flange turbo, different ecu version. They were much more a beast compared to obd2 850 with non reverse and straight flange 15g. Wife had a mapped obd1 which was so much more aggressive than the later mapped obd2 she had. Both were autos. Best 850 would for fun would be obd1 t5 or t5r, body wise I prefer the r's. 302mm upgrade did help a bit. Needed perfo alloys from s70, when did volvo fit 302 to police 850's?
My first Volvo was a V70 from 99 with the 2.5 10v Then got my hands on a V70 from 98... a T5!!! Best car ever. Had 241 horses. Sold it woth 417000 km on it and it actually drove around in my neighbourhood a month later.. yeah that hurted haha Then went to a ford cmax (i know) Now i got A 2002 S80 2.4 20v. Bought it for 600. But if i ever find a t5 v70 or 850 again i will probably swap the s80 for one.
Lol got to love how you get booked doing a mile or two over the limit. The cop is like we done 140mph everyday two or three times???? WTF?? Typical pig.
So just because cops can go over the limit under blue lights, every one should be able to do it? I kinda agree since i actually drive 155 mph in my volvo randomly.

That's impressive after 11 years starting on second turn of the key, definitely a car I regret not buying years ago .
Great video Geoff. I think this is one of my favourite videos that you’ve ever made👍🏼
Thanks man! Me too!
Great video Geoff. Have never seen a blue interior 850 in this part of the world. An eye opener for me! Thanks!
Thanks for sharing this great story about the Volvo and the fact that many people have a great passion for what they can do
Omg the sound is glorious. I need to own one of those one day.
Great video Geoff
I'd love to find an ex Scottish
Highlands police saab 9-5 aero Estate but they are a rare beast
Didn’t know the police used the 9-5!

That Blue 850 would look nice with that leather interior in it 👌🏻

I love an anorak observation and this is a very good observation....! I'll check in with Steve soon on his build (rebuild)
It's Steve Woodward from Traffic Cops.
I do believe Steve has wrote a book a police vehicles
I remember seeing him in the TV, cool video
I recognised him to! What was the tv programme he was on?
@@martync5169 was it Police camera Action or traffic cops, can't remember
@@steve.9138 thank you for that, just watched part 2 of this and he mentioned traffic cops 👍
BMW's still do puke water everywhere, hence many stopped being used. Great video.

I agree the non turbos sound better. Just posted two driving videos that can compare the two :)

Great comment! Wish I knew the answers.
Mine was March 96 and it had the 302’s
Great video and a very interesting buyer.
That was cool. Did you get to do a follow up. I used to watch him on road wars. When I had my Vaxhall omega 3.2 ❤I miss that car
It's coming this week! I'm buying the blue car back, now with a beige interior.
Tommy Walsh moonlighting ground force by day .police force by night😂
Think police helped with the reputation of the 850 T5, I use to work with someone who bought an ex west Yorkshire police T5.
Absoluut awesome video. 🏁🏆🇸🇪🎯
Thank you 🙌
Police upgraded these to 302mm discs on a different calliper hanger but the same calliper. Now a common upgrade for most 850 owners.
interesting thing about that is the set up won't go under columbus wheels without shaving the calipers..
@@xsduprwd3937 yes, why alot of the police 850's had perfo's on them.
Really Miss my ex cop white t5 auto estate N252 FTR. Total missile!
