Wake Up and Open Your Eyes sounds super interesting, but like it suffers the same problem a lot of horror books do, which is being too long! I think almost every full-length horror novel could benefit from chopping 50 pages. 😂
Dark Places is one of my favorite books! When all the twists were starting to come up near the end, i had my jaw on the ground OFTEN. I listened to the audiobook for the first time last year and i really enjoyed the narrator. Gillian Flynn has some great books
OMG awesome to see my friend Read With Dr B's channel in this vlog! Thank you for hosting Winterween (and Summerween) every year. It really brings me joy. 👻🏚🖤
When Gabby has a new vlog, I clicked instantly❤ I love love love love love love your winter ween vlogs! And Donnie Darko is one of my all-time favourite movies as well! You have great taste in movies, music. and books 🥰👻🎃 love from Denmark
Love your channel Gabby! I look forward to winterween and summerween every year! Mysteries, thrillers, and horror are my favorites. Almost all I read lol.
enjoying winterween - got my first 5 star with Nothing But the Rain (aaaah loved it!!!) and enjoying Academy for Liars (evernight edition has house) so hopefully everyone else is wrong and I love it lol Wake Up and Open Your Eyes sounds like it’s for meeee thank you! 🧛♀️
when you started talking about wake up and open your eyes i knew it sounded familiar! i read a collection called ‘found: an anthology of found footage short stories’ and this story was a short story/novella in it. i really liked the message and commentary in that format so i can’t imagine it being stretched out into 400 pages!
I also rated Wake Up and Open Your Eyes 3 ⭐️ because of the writing. So I feel so validated that someone else felt the same despite the great concept and commentary
Wake Up And Open Your Eyes definitely sounds interesting. The only book I’ve read from him is Ghost Eaters and while I didn’t loved it, I didn’t hate it either so I may check this one out. Interested in hearing your final thoughts on Dark Places!
Hi Gabby! I thought the plot sounded familiar so I checked and the book "Wake up and Open Your Eyes" actually started as a short story in a collection of horror short stories called "Found: an Anthology of Found Footage Horror Stories" from 2022. It's exactly the same plot! I knew I read it somewhere 😅
Yay! Hey Gabby! I love your vlogs! I'm so excited because I hit 100 subscribers today! I love doing BookTube! I'm a long way from monetized, 100 out of 500 subscribers but I'm having so much fun! 🤩🤩 I have a long way to go to reach 3,000 watch hours! 😂
Your description of how Dark Places is written makes me more excited to read it. I saw the movie & it’s fine. I think what was hard for me was how incredibly done Gone Girl was…Dark Places just wasn’t the same for me. I liked it better the second time I watched it because the first time was closer to after I’d seen Gone Girl. I’m interested to see what the book has to offer. Alice Feeney just came in, so I’ll be listening to 2 book club books at once! 🥰🥰🥰
I read Dark Places in 2017 and really liked it. There is a movie as well if you haven't seen it. I'm excited to hear what you think when you find everything out at the end.
Im reading dearest darkest right now im half way through im not sure how I feel about it yet ive wanted to dnf it but im pushing through. Ive been watching twin peaks such a great show ❤
I just realized a question. Do you still do your reading journaling? Just curious realizing I haven’t seen a shot of it. I think I might start doing so for the first time this year; reading journaling. It might be cathartic for me.
I love the Vampire Diaries, but not watched the Originals yet. Your excitement makes me want to watch it after I’ve finished Legacies. For Winterween I’m reading Hell House.
I finished Dark Places for Winterween, did a tandem audio/ebook. I enjoyed it, but I could have done without the Ben chapters...can't wait for the liveshow discussion with Bookables!
Happy birthday, Gabriella! I finished Dark Places for Winterween. Flynn seems to enjoy teasing the audience with obvious conclusions that are almost immediately refuted with new and unexpected evidence. Otherwise it's good except for the fictive world totally lacking in human motivation. I think the author intended to limit that malaise to the actual characters but it carried over to most of the others IMHO.
I'm not a horror fan either movie s or books it' gives me nightmares so I m listening to the Nate Shepherd legal series by Michael Stagg it's about a attorney. Then I might listen to either Lindsey Hutchinson Emma Hornby or Cathy Sharp about a children's home I haven't decided yet
I read dark places and gave it 2 stars like the first half of the book was good but once it got to the second half it kinda lost my interest and I just didn't connect with the characters as much as I did in the beginning n libby just was annoying after while n Ben's character was creepy n the ending was just over before it even began in my opinion but I can't wait to hear ur thoughts on this book
I DNF'd Wake Up and Open Your Eyes after part 1. I like the idea of the plot, but the execution seemed like it was taking a more silly, humorous, and over the top route rather than having well-thought-out insight and commentary, which i would have preferred.
I wanted to like The Originals so much because the acting is so good, but there was so much blood and cutting it reminded me of self-harm. Everyone always cutting their wrist. Yikes.

Your description of Wake up and open your Eyes with the TV legitimately scared me, haha.
Michael Crouch is another audiobook narrator whose voice has become so entangled with so many of my favourite books 🥰
I hope you have a great birthday on Saturday Gabby! Thanks for all your hard work with hosting this readathon.
Thank you so much!! 💖

Gabby you’ve done such a good job with Winterween
Thank you!! ❤
Love these little vlogs for winterween! I always look forward to them ❤
I've been watching you for a few years now and I still have no idea what a reading sprint is!!!
Essentially, it’s a thing where you set a timer to read (an hour, for example) with a goal and prompt 😊
Love your channel Gabby! I look forward to winterween and summerween every year! Mysteries, thrillers, and horror are my favorites. Almost all I read lol.
Been having a great time this Winterween! My favourite read has been Moon of the Crusted Snow ❄️
I love Winterween cliffhangers lol
The Originals ❤ Everything. The ending is just...wow!
I'm sure you already know about Legacies too
Can't wait for you to finish dark places!!!! I gave it 3.5 stars!!

I LOVE the Originals!! Klaus abd Elijah are my favorite, and Rabecca as a close Rebekah as a close second.
5:22 the ghosts I sent your way finally arrived, I see 😏
I should’ve known it was because of you 🫣🙄
Love winterween & you gabby❤
Loving winterween! I read dark places and love it! Some of the ending was a real twist for me. Reading the haar now and WOW
Yes I freaking love The Originals so much! Very glad you are liking it
21:08 I completely understand! Julia Whelan is like that for me
OMG. it is a visceral feeling
This video is so comforting for some reason ❤❤
❤❤❤
Thanks for the vlog!
Gabby you have the best channel
I love Donnie Darko!! Wake up and Open your Eyes seems true to life but exaggerated lol (and I said that before your update !) 😂
Wake Up And Open Your Eyes definitely sounds interesting. The only book I’ve read from him is Ghost Eaters and while I didn’t loved it, I didn’t hate it either so I may check this one out.

Is Catherine house any good before I buy it plzz❤
@ hey! I’m enjoying it so far, but I’ve only read the first couple of chapters
Im reading dearest darkest right now im half way through im not sure how I feel about it yet ive wanted to dnf it but im pushing through. Ive been watching twin peaks such a great show ❤
Dark Places is my favorite Gillian Flynn! Definitely unexpected conclusion!
I love your fox friend! I have the same one. He sleeps in my bed!
I just realized a question. Do you still do your reading journaling? Just curious realizing I haven’t seen a shot of it. I think I might start doing so for the first time this year; reading journaling. It might be cathartic for me.
Yes I still have a reading journal 🥰
Wake up and open your eyes sounds so interesting! My Libby app doesn't have it though😒 I'll have to wait
Thanks for reminding me to take my birth control pill lol
I love the Vampire Diaries, but not watched the Originals yet. Your excitement makes me want to watch it after I’ve finished Legacies. For Winterween I’m reading Hell House.
Ahhh I think you’d love The Oroginals!! ❤
@@gabbyreads Thanks. I’ve heard it’s set in New Orleans so I should love it 😂
Can't wait to see your review of the new Grady Hendrix. I'm very interested in this one but I hated How to Sell a Haunted House and DNF'd
I finished Dark Places for Winterween, did a tandem audio/ebook. I enjoyed it, but I could have done without the Ben chapters...can't wait for the liveshow discussion with Bookables!
Oh yeah I definitely agree on the Ben chapters haha 😅

If you love The Last Of Us, I HIGHLY recommend playing the games.
1:30 name of the song
The Spew of News was in the FOUND anthology book as a short story. I'm surprised he turned it into a novel.
What is the name of the song you use? I love it.

i have a horror book recommendation for you! mister magic by kiersten white. i think you’d love it actually!
I DNF's WUAOYE after the first 40 pages. Could not do it.
Same! It was just so goofy and repetitive to me.
That first book is basically about people that watch CNN.
Lol sooo about old men 🤔😂🤣 a book about my dad 😂 weird
😊👍👍
I loved The Originals!! And I agree about What Kind of Mother. I gave it 2 stars. It was so disappointing!
Seriously need that book but don't get paid till Tuesday

Sky Full Elephants synopsis reminds of the movie, “A Day without a Mexican”
