One thing that baffles me is that this film was banned from Oscars because according to them it portrays Britain in a bad light even though what it did was only show the true state of India and the expoitation of Indians by British.

    • @vasudhasharma5532
      @vasudhasharma5532 2 года назад +24

Actually the Indian committee that chooses for Oscars rejected it.. not the academy awards itself .
I think it’s another example of them ruining their own chances.
While I can’t comment on the South Indian movie ‘Pebbles’ they sent, as I haven’t seen it. But from the story plot I think that movie represents India in a ‘poor’ country with ‘violence against women’ and ‘alcoholics’ in a ‘third world nation’ image. It reinforces all negative stereotypes.
This movie would have shown the advances we made in cinematography, in seemless and undetectable CGI, raw acting talent and also brought a lesser known historical topic to front of discussions.
      It was a lost chance.

1.25 Million Indian soldiers fought under the British flag in WWI. They were amongst the first deployed, as they were some of the most experienced in war in the whole British Empire. Indian soldiers were at the front while the majority of the British men were being conscripted and trained to fight the surprise war. Without the Indian soldiers the British would have already lost WWI.
Back home the Indian politicians were working to get human rights for the Indian people. Gandhi supported Indians volunteering to fight for the British flag if it meant gaining equal rights for self determination as citizens of the Empire.
This massacre was the turning point for Gandhi realizing and deciding that the British needed to quit (leave) India.
Indians were promised many rights for helping preserve the British Empire during the war, including holding elections for local governance. Once the war was over in 1918, the true will of the British was revealed as right after right as humans have and deserve were taken away. The cause given for the massacre was for asserting the rights that the American Constitution declares God given, namely: "... the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." After the massacre Dyer retroactively declared Marshal Law.

Sorry I heard Gandhi word occurrence as obsly he must be taught in schools below are some less known facts (hidden purposefully)
*when British Prime Minister (head of Britain) was asked in free India that 'why and what' were the reason Britain left India
    >British Prime Minister said: Because of Subhash Chandra Bose and his Indian National Army (INA)
*when Indian asked to British PM what was Gandhi's contribution in getting India freedom
    >British Prime Minister said in one word: "Minimal".
Gandhi please he is over-hyped, and he has become a "brand" all over the world because he had been projected in that way + it suits British narrative so no blood stays on their hand and till date no one has recognized that any evil has been done to us.
+ People Love Non-violence but the fact of the matter was India got freedom because of INA and Subhash Chandra Bose + UDHAM Singh, Bhagat Singh+ many more which was violent
+ Wars cant be won on basis of Non-Violence that's basic fact your enemy will crush you down

Gandhi was just one of the freedom fighters. I think gandhi was popularized so much in the west because the western governments didn't like the resistance and the fight other freedom fighters gave them. So Gandhi's non violence worked for them . I hope more freedom fighters are known of india. 🙂
