Sam Brown.. such a sad story, she made 2 solo albums, witch were actually quite good, Gilmore did some guitarstuff on it. But then in 2007 she had a cyste removed from her vocalcords, and lost her singing voice permanently. And the world lost a nother great singer.
Finally a reaction video in which the top 50 comments aren't people yelling about Clare Torry. It's a miracle. Give it up for Sam Brown leaving us all speechless.
Three brilliant vocalists who just happen to be very attractive ladies, of course he would look so would I, no disrespect intended to those ladies or indeed any ladies …. Girls just to be honest you are rather nice to admire.
This is what I have requested at my funeral on my way out of the great gig in the sky. Life throws curve balls one of them is cancer but fuck it I have beautiful family and Pink Floyd❤️
I just stumbled upon your page for the first time and subscribed ! anyone who enjoys Pink Floyd as much as you did is a friend of mine ! I have been fortunate enough to see them numerous times with amazing seats ! They play for 3 hours non-stop , when it's over you have just experienced a religious experience !
You need the buy the DVD of the Pulse concert and lock yourself in a room for 3 hours and watch the whole thing. Your welcome. Insane concert you will fall in love with every song. They take you on such a journey.
Simple song, but brilliantly delivered. First, lady railing against the dying of the light. Second, lady slowly succumbing and the third, inevitably that the end is here. Magical.
Clare Torry born 1947 the main backing singer on great gig in the sky was invited by David gilmour in 1973 to sing the backing vocals for this particular track she was 26 years old at the time. She turned up to the recording studio, listened to the music one time and then sang the backing vocals in one take. This of course being only one song of the greatest album pink Floyd ever made dark side of the moon. She is an unbelievable talent. Absolutely love your channel Lilly, and I hope you get many more subscribers. Subscribed 🙏
I had the chance to see this show two evenings in a row at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal in 1994. Never in my life have I attended another show that left its audience in such a state at the end of the show. No pun intended, the crowd left the stadium in a state of "Comfortably Numb", but really in a state of surreal comfort. The public knew that they had just witnessed an extraordinary event. Sorry to those who were unable to attend this memorable concert.
these three ladies are magnificent. I will never denigrate the album cut, but this is the version that moves me every single time I hear it and I adore what Sam, Durga and the late Claudia did with it. Its just chuffin' magnificent.
A song written about death and the journey beyond. I can attest after now having been on that journey 4 times over 50 years that it will spook you at first out of not understanding but once accepted it is beautiful. I have been fortunate so far as each time as I have ASKED FOR MORE TIME MY JOURNEY STOPPED AND RETURNED. BLESS US ALL
If your looking for a great Pink Floyd experience, look up "Shine on your crazy diamond". Its a song written about one of the founding members of Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett. His mind never returned from an extended LSD trip in 1968. This song is about the band's sadness at the loss of their soul mate. Although his body survived, the real Syd never returned.
I was at this gig in Earls Court, 1994, to this day I have never experienced a gig quite like it, I don't think it could be topped. Absolutely awesome.
I got to see them do this in Vanderbilt Stadium May 8, 1994. I took my 15 year old son and and 12 year old daughter. It was THE best concert I've ever been to.
I was lucky enough to see Pink Floyde in 1975 in Seattle. Maybe 1974. It was The Darkside of The Moon tour and was life changing. The more I listen to them, and reflect on their music, the more I appreciate the lyrics to their songs. Thanks for all the wonderful reactions you provide. Rock on.
Saw this concert in '94 I think, and it was in Nashville. I have loved them since '73, and was so glad I could finally see them live. Have almost every album of theirs.
My fave Pink Floyd Live songs are "Sorrow", "High Hopes", both from the PULSE concert also "On the Turning Away" from The Delicate Sound of Thunder Tour 1990.
Great reaction to a classic song! I've often thought that the music of Pink Floyd, in some unknown magical way, strikes us so emotionally by not being music for the ears but instead being music for the soul. It's like we feel the music on a deeper level than simple hearing, and that can make it strike up all sorts of reactions in us.
Hi Lily Jane. Indeed this is such an emotional piece. Gets ya in the feels. "Run Like Hell" from this concert is pretty fun. Thx for spending some time checking out Pink Floyd!
British singer Clare Torry sane the original recording on Dark Side of the Moon. No one has ever been able to replicate her performance. On the Pulse tour they had no less than three singers to try and replicate Claire. Taking nothing away from the great performers that sang on that tour, but no one ever has been able alone to cover the great Clare Torry.
It is about letting other vocalists do their thing, keep to the jist but not replicate. I love Clare's original but Sam's despair/anger gets me every time, also the way she closes.
I would always recommend this beautiful piece of art, and then for something utterly different, 'Run Like Hell' from the same show. It will be the most bombastic and explosive thing you've ever seen.
Sorrow would be my favourite Pink Floyd song. Anything from the live Pulse concert has a little extra zing to enhance it in such a wonderful way. Shine on you crazy diamond (parts 1-5) will blow your mind
One of my favourite performances from the Pulse concert is the song 'One Of These Days' I love that song live or even the first song of the concert 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' is amazing great song to open with
As someone else said, "Echoes - Live at Pompeii". Another song that makes you think (if one listens to the lyrics), although just listening to it without thinking is great as well.
I have been a fan of pink floyd since they formed back in the sixtees and through the years great Rock bands have come and gone but nobody has been able to hold a candle to them they are the ultimate progressive sycadelic rock band I rarely go a day without listening to some of their incredible music if you want a real treat then listen and watch the complete ghdansk concert live in Poland at the shipyard what an absolutely wonderful atmosphere one of my favourite tracks has got to be echoes David gilmour played this particular track for the last time because he said it would not be the same without his fellow band member and life long friend keyboard player Richard Wright sadly it wasn't to long after this concert that Richard Wright died he has left a huge void and is missed so much musicians of his calibre and genius don't come along every day so lilly welcome to an ever growing pink floyd fan club love all your reactions if you do listen to the ghdansk concert I'm sure you won't be disappointed
3 incredible backup singers = 1 Clare Torry improvising for an hour with just a few instructions from the band, she did 2 full takes and reportedly gave up on a third take saying in effect she'd already given it her all, she was paid £30 and she apologized thinking she didn't give them what they wanted. Didn't know they used her work until she saw the record in the store. Looking at the liner notes there was nothing about her contribution, when it really is half the song. It was on the Billboard 200 albums chart for 736 nonconsecutive weeks. From 2005: "Torry provided the improvised vocal on The Great Gig In The Sky, and was paid the standard fee of £30 for her work on January 23rd 1973. However, some thirty-one years later she claimed that she composed the song, and asked the High Court for monies she believed were due to her, a half-share of copyright ownership and a 50 per cent share, possibly worth millions, of past and future income. Torry said they (the band and EMI) had breached her copyright and asked for damages and for "all illicit copies of the song to be destroyed". This could have resulted in the album being withdrawn from sale temporarily. This week, the High Court judged on the side of Ms Torry, and have awarded her a half-share on copyright ownership of the song. The amount of the out-of-court settlement has not been disclosed, prompting much speculation as to the amount."
Saw them live in 1988 (as well as Roger Water's Radio KAOS tour that year) and again in 1994. By far, Pink Floyd (and Roger) have put on the best performances I have ever seen.
Pretty much any live Pink Floyd. "Run Like Hell" from Pulse is fun. I like the performances in "In Delicate Sound of Thunder" especially "One of These Days". Pink Floyd is quite the pleasant ride. Nice reaction!

Lily - I think GGITS has so much emotional impact because of the complete lack of words with the simplicity of the instrumentation. This song follows "Time" on the album and Time ends with people on their knees in a chur h while the bells toil - a funeral! And GGITS is an expression of the stages of grief/dying. WOW!! BTW - Highly recommend Run Like Hell from the Pulse dvd. It is the concert closer and follows Comfortably Numb. A powerful high tempo song with explosive lighting!
Lilly Jane, you should watch the version of "Great Gig" from "The Delicate Sound of Thunder" concert. Rachel Fury, Durga McBroom and Machan Taylor give the best performance of this song.
Music was written by Rick Wright ( Key Board) for a movie which the director didn't like. The band call a session singer Claire Torrey and told her sing with no words but the song was about life and death. She did this in 2 takes and she stop on the third as she said she couldn't do any better. rest is history. David Gilmours "live at Pompeii' in any Tongue"**** P.F. song"great Day for Freedom' by David Gilmour " Live at Gdansk" 100,000 attendance. This concert " Sorrow" "High Hopes" " Keep talking" ( using a talk box) "Run Like Hell' the only song that people stand for.
I love this song and album!!! My favorite part of this performance is near the end when David stops palsying, puts his pick on the lap steel, and gazes at the ladies as they belt!! At around 5:50 something.. Wait for it....... Even David is impressed!!! Crying is permitted as you watch and listen to Pink Floyd!!!
If I'd been at that concert I don't think I would have applauded. I would have been too stunned and crying too hard to do anything else. I'm 67; DSotM came out just before I graduated from high school and it only gets better every time I hear it.
Clare Torry got a call in to sing for this track. They explained what they wanted. First cut she nailed it and she did another half to be sure. If remember correctly she made 75 pounds for the track.
This concert has to be the live recording that I have ever heard. I'm usually not a fan of live recordings, I love this album and the tour was fantastic.
To be there......to mainline the universes energy directly from these wonderful transucers.....that we call Pink Floyd.....and their medium...music. I actually prefer the live version................but it speaks volums that it took 3 talented ladies to translate what Clare Torry created in 2 takes. Thanks for diving back into the live version ....always stick with the live work of Floyd....their concerts are spiritual experiences.
The cool thing is on the Dark Side of the Moon this song was done in one take. That album is by far the best recorded music ever done. You have awesome taste and intelligence to love Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd music is more of an experience than other songs.
From the same Pulse concert, there are two other epic performances, which are 'Comfortably Numb', (one of the most incredible guitar solos of all time) and 'Wish you were here'.
This was a great performance. IMO, the same song done on the "Delicate sound of Thunder" tour is even better. You should actually watch the entire concert recorded live at Webley. Mind blowing!!!!
Music sometimes brings out our emotions even if we wish they didn't. I freakin cried a bit when I saw these guys in Philly in 87 and they opened with Echoes, the best Floyd song ever. Back then, the Floyd weren't known for breaking out the oldies and we all thought they retired the song. 27 years old standing in JFK STADIUM crying like an idiot and I wouldn't trade that memory for the world. I teared up seeing King Crimson doing the oldies thing before they called it a day too. What's an old guy gonna do lol?
You might want to copy and paste this Floyd recommendation.... Several species of small furry animals gathered together in a cave grooving with a pict It's from an early album Ummagumma. You will probably enjoy the full album. Incredible when felling a bit mellow, if you catch my drift. Also Re: The Wall... watch the movie, you won't be disappointed, promise.
Actually, the best live version of "High Hopes" is from David Gilmour's live in Gdansk tour. The subtle alternate ending from the original actually completes the song.
Claudia Fontaine got me this time , she has probably been on more hit records and tours than another other British artist , from ska and reggae , soul and mod , rock and hip hop she has supported the greatest artists of the 80s onwards .
I've got to say that "Time" from Pulse and "Yet Another Movie" from The Delicate Sound of Thunder are my favorite live performances by Pink Floyd. Still, there are so many great live performances from this band, it's hard to pass any of them by. Peace to you!
No matter how many times i watch this, when Sam Brown (the 1st singer) screams out, it sends shivers down my spine.
Sam Brown.. such a sad story, she made 2 solo albums, witch were actually quite good, Gilmore did some guitarstuff on it. But then in 2007 she had a cyste removed from her vocalcords, and lost her singing voice permanently. And the world lost a nother great singer.
Sam is not the original singer off the album.
She gets me every time I see this. Such and ambitious example to tackle from the studio album by Clare.
Hey 🙋♂️
I feel also!!!
@@fw1421 no shit sherlock
Pure female soul. As a man I love it.
Finally a reaction video in which the top 50 comments aren't people yelling about Clare Torry. It's a miracle. Give it up for Sam Brown leaving us all speechless.
Hell yeah!!!
My favourite of all the excellent solos. Sam Brown. Sadly she has a vocal cord problem now. Great loss
Same, prefer this one over the studio-version
Sam could sing to me all night. Love this version.
The singer is Sam Brown, whose album I bought in the late 80's. The song 'Stop' is worth checking out.
I love how when David gets done playing, he turns and watches the singers 👍🏼
He had free tickets to the show!
😂
@@robbob5302 and the best seats too
I've always liked seeing that. Seems like a sign of respect, to 3 very talented ladies.
He's admiring perfection
Three brilliant vocalists who just happen to be very attractive ladies, of course he would look so would I, no disrespect intended to those ladies or indeed any ladies …. Girls just to be honest you are rather nice to admire.
This concert has to be one of the greatest accomplishments of all of man kind.
the blonde vocalist is Sam(antha) Brown .........she's spectacular ! all the vocalists sing their interpretations of the 5 stages of grief
This is what I have requested at my funeral on my way out of the great gig in the sky. Life throws curve balls one of them is cancer but fuck it I have beautiful family and Pink Floyd❤️

Agree 100%!
Every Pink Floyd fan has to watch the Wall.
That movie changed my life as a musician and songwriter.
I have the Blu Ray. This concert was pure magic.
I was their
Pigs were flying
Couldn't agree more.
50 years ago I heard this and still.get chills
Pink Floyd always put on a kick ass concert whenever I saw them, always money well spent.

KEEP TALKING was my favorite song at this concert.
Seen them live in Toronto, early 70's. To see PF live is an experience you will never forget.
It hits harder and deeper when aware of the meaning behind the song.

Saw them in 94...mind blown!
I would love to see your reaction to the Moody Blues, Knights in White Satin , and then take a journey with everything from Fleetwood Mac.
After all these years i still feel so lucky and blessed that i was at this concert- remember it like it was yesterday.
Welcome to the magical world of Pinkfloyd, put your seat belt on and strap in for the ride of your life ❤
"Sorrow" at this concert is probably my favourite live performance from Pink Floyd.
You must remember this was 21 years after Clare Tory sung the original for Dark Side of the Moon. But these ladies did a wonderful job of it in 1994.
Have seen them just a month before.
30 years ago and still amazed.
