@@princessmagical No actually it wasn't. Myra was always the best for Steve. She never judged or belittled him. Loved him for who he was. She was a true ride or die. It took Laura years to see what Myra already knew.
Until she began to discover how Steve had been the only one to love her unconditionally & Myra was turned into a stalker (first, she was just clingy & then it became, "In real life, she could be arrested").
It's so amazing and beautiful how Steve knew all along that he and Laura belonged together from kindergarten. He told Laura in season 2 he would wait forever for her. It took Laura 15 years to finally realize Steve is the one for her after getting the double proposal and no man would ever love and adore Laura more than Steve. You clearly see it after watching the entire series that Steve's heart always belonged to Laura. Steve spends 16 hours in a dump looking for Laura's doll, just one of many, many things he does to show his love. And the passionate and intense looks that only he can give her. Like in Just One Date episode in season 4 when he says in the kitchen "I'll never give up bubbling brown sugar" and the passionately intense look he gives her and his eyes, he's so in love with her (you see that passionately intense look Steve gives Laura a lot throughout the series and I love it when they are on the porch in Lost in Space part 1). If I were Laura I would have to kiss him at that moment after he said that in the kitchen. In that episode Grill Of My Dreams (S9), Mr. Tanaka (Pat Morita) told Steve that it's fitting to do his cooking debut in front of the woman his heart has chosen and Steve asked how he knew it was Laura and Mr. Tanaka said it's all in Steve's eyes, his eyes says it all. If I were Laura, there's no question I would be with Steve. It makes me cry, Steve and Laura have been through so much together and they end up getting married even though the wedding is not shown onscreen. Steve loves and adores Laura more than life itself. It's a perfect love story, I wish it were real. I wish Steve and Laura weren't just characters but were real and together in real life and have a family. I love the ending montage at the end of Pop Goes The Question and wish they included Steve and Laura dancing when Laura is crowned homecoming queen and Steve has the biggest smile on his face. He is beyond happy and they should have put that in there.
WOW! I love it when people don't just watch Family Matters but pay attention to it. So many people have a lot to say but didn't really watch closely. Like when they pretended to be married for school and Laura blew up at Steve. When she ended up crying, I said there's no way she doesn't love that boy. How could a 13-year-old shed tears over another 13-year-old who is only showing her that he loves her. Over all the seasons nobody could get to Laura's heart like Steve. Even Stefan didn't work until he made him more like Steve. She would tell him to go home and leave her alone, but she gobbled up his attention like crazy. And the times she was ready to throw hands with Myra were classic. For 15 years she never had to live without Steve and then she realized she didn't want to try. I loved the episode with the guardian angel. That made it seem like their relationship had some divine intervention. Plus, Kellie William killed that episode!
True, the way I see it, Steve ultimately broke up with Myra because she became too possessive and jealous of him, and he thought she was not mentally stable, that she owned him and wouldn't even let him have other friends, and then after he broke up with her, he sensed that he still had a chance with Laura, which was somewhat true, because Laura's feelings for him were starting to change, but then Myra kept trying to get Steve back by doing really crazy things.
Had Steve chosen Myra right here in this episode, it would have changed the entire storyline of Family Matters. Myra would have remained the sweet and intelligent girl Steve liked in her and would never be jealous of anyone in her life; Steve would be closer to his parents thanks to Myra's help and stop bothering the Winslows, and he would be less clumsy and awkward; Stefan would never exist; Laura would become the jealous stalker with the urge to win Steve's heart.
Not really. Urkel would've clarified things with Laura and the two would've remained friends. Season 5 would've been different because she would've endured a harrowing experience with a guy that Maxine set her up on a blind date and later regretted upon seeing how horrible he is to his previous girlfriends. Steve and Eddie rescues Laura from it and the guy is arrested. She is shaken by this because she got almost raped by a guy whose intentions weren't good at all. Laura learns a hard lesson in not falling in love with someone based on appearances alone. It's there, Eddie decides that after graduation, he would follow in his father's footsteps in enrolling to the police academy to be a cop. He foregoes attending Illinois Occidental University and enrolls in the police academy that Carl and Harriette once attended. Urkel would've dressed up more normally, while retaining true to himself and committing to Myra. She surprises him by transferring from Brighton Academy to be closer to him. Laura meets Myra's childhood best friend, Dexter Thornhill, and they fall in love. When their relationship is put to the test due to some racist classmates wanting to break them up, it's Rachel who tells them and the Winslows about a similar situation she faced when she was dating her deceased husband, Robert Crawford(whom is a white man). Despite the racial tensions to break them up, she and Robert faced them head on. They didn't care about anything else other than how much they loved each other and Richie. Hearing the bravery that Rachel and Robert faced as an interracial couple, Laura and Dexter decides to give their relationship a chance and prove their classmates wrong. The Urkels having reconciled with Steve would become actual neighbors to the Winslows.
Until Myra's stalking tendencies manifested themselves, it seemed there was hope for putting to bed the Laura/Steve unrequited love affair. The X-ray glasses crossed a line, though. If someone is pursuing you & you tell them they need to give you your space & they do not listen, sorry. That is not attraction...that is suffocation.
