Of course 6012 & 6013 can be used vertical up. UP - is the ONLY way to weld vertical. Down is only any good for cosmetics. With the exception of pipeliners of course, and that's an entirely different discussion.
Just know that this is a "Cover Pass" technique and not meant for the "Root Pass" especially on a fillet. You need to use the Whip N' Pause, Inverted "T", Inverted "V" or Triangle rod manipulation to get any kind of root fusion since E6013 has low penetration characteristics. The "U", "W", or "Z" weaves are fine for uphill covers and stringers work equally well with a circle motion. Any other position requires you to stay on the leading edge of the puddle to keep the slag at bay. Like most stainless steel electrodes, E6013 requires some type of weave motion with a slightly longer arc length to blow the heavy slag back to make the puddle visible. The increased arc force also helps prevent wormholes too. Remember, E6013 is a slow deposition electrode hence you need to spend more time on the toes and go a little slower than E7018 😉
I always understood that you should go low on amps when welding vertical up because the heat rises ahead of where you're welding. But 150 is nothing like low on amps. And it still looks really nice!

Thanks. Have to repair my trailer this week and that will involve some vertical welding. I don't have much experience as I only got a 1-night a week course some years ago.
You need to go up to get root penetration and then across as you are doing but with longer pauses at each side to avoid the slight undercut you are getting. If you break that weld, you will find low root penetration with some slag inclusion pockets

the rule for finding the setting is (diameter of the electrode -1)x50 for example 2,5-1 equal 1,5 1,5x50= 75A then you should add 20% in downhill and internal corners, and minus 20% in external corners or uphill. It's not 100% accurate but it gives an idea of where to start
Im new to welding and have a hard time figuring out the puddle distance ive been told roughly 1/16 or 1/32 of an inch away but thats about it. Is there more to it than that or do you also have to do additional steps to keep your puddle flat. (Mine rise like a mountain and finish like a bb size. ) any criticism or help is appreciated
Came here to comment section, cause i saw the arc was low. And wantes to see who else thinks the same. That is 10mm steel plate, he is going up with about 90-110 max. 6013 3.2 is burning with big arc already with 125amps...
@@robylv5720 I agree with the amps figures you mention. Welding machines are not consistent when it comes to indicating amp settings. If I ran 3.25's on 150 amps, I would be dealing with some serious edge undercutting. I run 3.25 - 6013 at around 115 amps for vertical up, using a Fronius Transpocket 1500.

Man those are some nice welds!
Thank you for posting this great tutorial!
Thank you, I didn't think that 6013 could be used for vertical up. I had been using low amperage settings . A big thumbs up.

@@tandemwings4733 I'm glad you said that. Uphill for 3F position is the norm...and for any vertical. Not really is "secret trick of the trade" lol.

I envy to see those weld seams. I can't do anything like that

Exactly..i think so,usually 120 A for 3.25 mm
Not true. Amps depends on welding stick size and material + thickness and material welding is being performed on

You're the only welder I haven't judged on RUclips so far 😂 beautiful work
You are a excellent professor of welding....Good job🇦🇱
Thank you for teaching me such wonderful techniques for free
Mate. You are an artist.

We need more videos on this, it is very important for us, wherever we go, a test is taken about this.
Si esto fuera moda, vos hacés alta costura. 👏👏👏👏👏
6013s look awesome!
Super, l always struggle for verticals, ll do more practice. Excelente!
Hi,watching from Romania, nice welding ✌️
Felicidades!!! Saludos desde México.
Incredible. Youre a smart guy. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and may God bless you more.
Excelente explicación, mi amigo. Te felicito, has aclarado muchas dudas que yo tenia. Muchas gracias.
The vertical T weld was one of my favourite position weld back in the day, this guy has done a good job nice one bro
Hah. I just realised what a "vertical T" weld could be. That would be what we called a "vertical fillet". Does that look right to you?
@@tandemwings4733 yup that's right, over 35 years since I did those sort welding jobs back then
Excellent vertical welding bud,excellent !👍🏻
Excellent best vertical I’ve seen wish I could do the same
Mais uma vez um belo vídeo 👏👏🇧🇷🇧🇷

And for the roots,I change my polarity (electrode negative)

Years back 6013 was called the electrician rod. Because it was so easy an electrician could do it.
That's really dumb.
@@tandemwings4733 apparently you are too.
@@plainlogic What makes you think that?
@@plainlogic Actually, I'm a qualified welder, and the easiest electrode/s I have ever used are 6010/6011.
6013 is not an easy rod to weld my freind. Especialy vertical or horizontal. Not even on flat surface.

It's easy to weld thick metals. I would appreciate if you do the same job on thin metal...
Thin metal with 6013 would be best done running the bead down in a straight pass, rather than upward with a weave pass.
Iron man : you're the best one!!! Congratulations from Romania!
Nice 👍

Metal thickness, Electrode and Amp please?

What brand of your welding machine
Is weaving bad for penetration?

I use Vodex rods They have been available since my apprenticeship 1961 to 1967 ? 60 years ago where did the time go?

that low penetration cant be 150A. Personaly i think you have used like 110A, or 100 for this welding.

Any suggestions how much Amps do I used for plate 3.2mm vertical.
E6013 3/32 electrode 75-80 amps vertical down travel speed should be fast for 3mm plate
how many volt amperes for vertical welding?
Amp how much need to give?
thanks for the knowledge you share 👌👌
Hi very nice and professional 👌
I try vertical up with 6013 low or high amp my weld doesn't look like this. Vertical down look very good

150 amps for 6013?
Anyway good video. Thanks. New Subscriber here
For me, 6013 X 3.35mm, at 150 amps = serious undercut. Should be 110 to 120 amps (less heat into the joint too).
